July 2025 Book#10 last book read this month

This is book 2 in this series. The murder in this one was gory and sad. I didn‘t want that character to die. Kelly continue adapting herself in this town and work remotely. She again is involved in this investigation of this murder even when she was asked not to do it. I like the characters in this series. Where I am lost is when they start talking about knitting 🧶 😳But I will continue this series 3⭐️

July 2025 Book #5

This was a gift from a friend of mine, because this is one of her favorite authors in paranormal romance. I think this is my first novel by this author. It was good but it didn‘t impress me. My friend hasn‘t read it yet she thought it was good start because was a stand alone but I clarified her that it is part of a trilogy. But I like the “six sense” or ability to experience premonitions through her dreams⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) Those dreams are not pleasant because they anre attached to a traumatic experience. There is romance which I would prefer this main character could be more assertive but let see what happens in second novel. Something happened that someone in the group is not who they seem to be. It was a little predictable at some point. Stella will have dreams connecting who that person is. Again, the motive why this person behaved in that way was⬇️ 3d
Gissy (Cont) unrealistic to me🤷🏽‍♀️But I‘m intrigued to see what is going to happen in book 2. This author has been recommended to me by different persons. Maybe this series was not the best to start with but is the shortest series I think. 3.5⭐️ 3d

I always pick a #Buzzword for the year as a way to attack my TBR. This year it was LAST. Here‘s the result. I think there‘s about 8 more on the shelf with LAST in the title so I could use the same word next year.

Miss Benson's Beetle | Rachel Joyce

Mehso-so

This was okay. This woman goes in a journey to find the golden beetle which at the end is a way to discover herself. Characters and situations seem not realistic and situations were ridiculous. You still have some funny parts and quotes to think about but in general not a great story for me. The gifts in this box were neither great or practical. 3⭐️

Once There Were Wolves | Charlotte McConaghy

Pickpick

First book I read by this author and I will say I liked the writing style and the story, at least this one. There is a murder and people in the remote Highlands blame the wolves. Inti knows that this attack was not made by the wolves, then by who. She is working with a team to protect the wolves but this project is not well received by the community. But the story is more than that, is about Inti, who can be seen as unlikable character⬇️

Gissy (Cont.)..difficult, confrontative person. But then you know about her sister, her relationship with her mother, her father, and you will have another perspective of the whole situation, why she doesn‘t trust others why is difficult for her to be receptive to new relationships. All those situations in only 256 pages. Wow! That was amazing as a writer. There are some triggers like sexual abuse/assault. 4/4.5⭐️ 2y
Gissy I forgot, it is a slow pace reading.

This book did not work for me. I know that with Oyeyemi, you just have to let the writing wash over you, and there will be times you have no idea what is "happening" in the plot. This novel was true to form in that regard. I found the use of Shakespearen and Mythical names heavy-handed. I still enjoy her writing, but this novel was a miss. 2 ?

Another slow pace reading, character driven story. Set part in London and part in Ireland. Two time lines. Olivia inherited her grandfather‘s bookshop and there is a photo of two girls and a manuscript that connect these girls with her grandmother who has now Alzheimer. These girls claimed that they saw fairies. Olivia will search the truth behind the photos. Also about family relations/secrets, second chances and what is home for Olivia⬇️

Gissy The story is so pretty but I can understand that is not for everyone. I really enjoyed it. Love the audiobook because of the Irish accent and traditions mentioned here. This book has been in my tbr forever😳but I finally I read it. There some gifts I liked in this box. 3.8/4⭐️

What I enjoyed of this story was the psychological analysis made for almost every single main characters. How well those dysfunctional personalities were described by that time. They were analyzing each other😂 Also I liked that Poirot analyzed the “suspects” from different angles to support or discard his involvement in the crime. I still think the end was a little rushed. But how arrogant, narcissistic Poirot is, what a character☺️3.8⭐️

Gissy I will be late in all the Readathons I‘m participating but I will read the books, I‘m a slow reader🤷🏽‍♀️

YEAR IN REVIEW- 2022 Goals
📚I did surpass my #Goodreads book goal : 96 of 70.
📚Read 7 of 12 nonfiction
📚Got about half of the PopSugar Challenge prompts
