A riveting memoir - from her earliest memories Abby born into a Hasidic Dynasty knew she was not whom her parents believed her to be. Abby, known as Yisroel Avrom born a male and raised to be a Torah scholar knew her soul and physical body did not align. She also knew that her life held bigger promises than just sitting and learning the Talmud, a collection of writings that covers the full gamut of Jewish law and tradition. 👇🏼

Cinfhen This book, her journey from male to female and from leaving the insular world of Hasidic Jewry is full of heartbreak and newfound joy. I was mesmerized. 1y

This contemporary YA is definitely written for the teen demographic and is a bit angsty, but I loved how the story delves into the different kinds of love, and how platonic love can be just as powerful as romantic love. There is a great cast of characters I absolutely adored, and the diversity and authenticity of the characters was so refreshing!

In rural Louisiana a car crash sets in motion all the evil that Jack (happily married and father of two young daughters) thought he had escaped from.
Throughout the whole book I was left with a creepy, spooky feeling.

A wonderful horror book to lose yourself into, recommended to me, of course by horror masters @Reggie and @vivastory 🖤

I liked this historical fiction that leans into the fiction of what MAY have occurred during the 11 days Agatha disappeared and never revealed what occurred. Told from the POV of her husbands mistress, a tale of mystery and romance is created of imagined events. Not only do we know that these events are speculation, Nan is also an unreliable narrator, recalling many scenes that she could not possibly have witnessed. Clever premise, well executed.

MatchlessMarie I read The Mystery of Mrs. Christie last year with a similar plot line and I enjoyed it a lot. I will have to check this one out. 2y
EvieBee I‘m currently listening to this one on audio and really enjoying the slow burn of it. 2y

Megabooks Hoping to get to this soon! 2y
BarbaraBB Wow, now I‘m very interested in this book. I didn‘t know Agatha Christie was missing for a while! 2y
KarenUK @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @megabooks Historical fiction is not normally a favorite genre for me, but I do like this particular period the most (between the wars). And the tone of the book made this interesting. It had a ‘knowing‘ vibe of this all being speculation which I found fun. 2y
Cinfhen I really enjoyed this on audio / it was a fun and the right homage to Agatha Christie 2y

Clap When You Land | Elizabeth Acevedo
post image
Pickpick

As usual Elizabeth Acevedo has written something that matters. This novel in verse is inspired by the AA587 plant crash on Nov. 12 2001 which was the second deadliest plant crash in US history, but since it wasn‘t caused by terrorism and almost exclusively affected the NY Dominican community, was all too easily forgotten. It explores the idea of relative privilege when everyone around you is suffering to some significant degree.

Two friends from college meet at a departure gate. One saved a man from drowning just after college and begins to relate the story to his friend. What starts as a curiosity about the man he saved quickly becomes an obsession. He discovers the man he saved is not nice or honest, but he begins insinuating himself into his life both personally and professionally. Imagine Rachel Cusk with a suspenseful twist. Pick for sure! ⬇️

Dava Shastri's Last Day | Kirthana Ramisetti
post image
Pickpick

Dava Shastri, a billionaire philanthropist, is dying but none of her children or grandchildren know. She has brought them to her private island to say goodbye. So obsessed with controlling her legacy, she leaks the news of her death a few days early, and the family learns about two long-held secrets, mom would rather bury. A great family drama about controlling and letting go. I would‘ve read more!

#AboutASecret #pop22
Note ⬇️

Megabooks I like how she set this in the near future (2044) so many readers could relate to the cultural touchstones the author includes from Dava‘s childhood and young adulthood (1970s to 2000s). Also: I wonder how this will compare to Black Cake, which sounds similar. I‘m really kicking myself for not ordering BC because I‘d like to compare the two. 2y
BarbaraBB This sounds very good. 2y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB it‘s solidly enjoyable contemporary fiction. It‘s everything I look for in a family drama. 2y
