I just finished The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. It was a nice read during this cold & dark time of the year. I could have done without the romance plot though.

It's been ages since I read anything by Scalzi's. Reading KJS is like curling up inside a warm blanket during storm rain, it's cozy and perfect for anyone searching for something easy scifi, with detailed world building but not complicated, lovable characters, and a plot twist here and there.

Set in 1930s Sydney, Australia, Rowly is a painter from a very wealthy family. Defying his father & brothers expectations, he surrounds himself with a group that includes a communist poet & a female sculptor. They get involved in scandals & danger, further inflaming his relationship with his family. Highly recommend!
