Stardust | Neil Gaiman

Pickpick

Reviewing this actually catches me up on reviews!!

This was a #Roll100 pick from April that I finally got around to. This was an engaging fairy tale that I enjoyed overall, but somehow didn't love the way I wanted to. Gaiman's writing is quite good and I actually did like the ending, but I found it difficult to connect to the characters. Still, a solid pick

I actually received this back in December 2020 for the #ElfSwap from @LibrarianRyan !!

Librarybelle Awesome - another great use of prompts! 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Chelsea.Poole - Thank you!! I love coneflowers so I just let them reseed themselves around the garden freely 😂 3y
Chelsea.Poole @TheAromaofBooks same here! I planted some last year and seeing a bit of expansion in them this year, which I love! 3y
LibrarianRyan I get that. I am not the biggest fan of Gaiman. I always want to love his books, but just like them. But I love this movie? 2y
TheAromaofBooks @LibrarianRyan - This is only the second Gaiman book I've read. The first was a picture book/short story, The Sleeper & the Spindle, which I didn't care for at all. He may just not be for me haha I may have to find the movie for Stardust, though, because I really did like the overall story/concept. 2y
LibrarianRyan @TheAromaofBooks The movie was fantastic. I read the book after I had seen the movie. I also read the Graveyard book and still don't get the fanfare, and i agre about the Sleeper and the Spindle. I tried the Ocean at the end of the lane in audiobook, nope. Boring. But the Movie that goes with stardust is so fun. 2y
TheAromaofBooks @LibrarianRyan - I definitely have some authors where I love their ideas/concepts more than their actual books, and Gaiman may be one of those. I had forgotten that I also read the Graveyard Book until you mentioned it as it was quite long ago, but I was rather ambivalent towards it at the time as well. 2y

I don‘t know about this one. Sometimes I felt lost in the dialogues. I like the illustrations but don‘t love them. But they complied the purpose, they are dark and extremely gory illustrations 🩸. I will like to re-read it and maybe try volume 2 because there parts that I liked. I received this graphic novel last year by @BookwormAHN in #Elfswap Thsnk you🤗🧛🏼‍♀️🖤🖤🖤

TheSpineView Fantastic 3y
BookwormAHN Your welcome and I agree the book was weird but I liked the overly ridiculous illustrations. 3y

I‘ve spent a sizeable chunk of the afternoon on this cleverly wrought WWI middle-grade novel and I‘m almost done. Here‘s hoping I don‘t get weepy. 🤞😆

Thanks again to @DinoMom for this lovely #ElfSwap gift!

Cathythoughts They‘re waving goodbye .. good luck at not getting weepy 😢 4y

So pleased I finally got around to reading this, had me very intrigued as they had banned it in Boston when first published. Nothing too shocking with what we are used to nowadays but very chilling and will stay with me for a bit.

Very interesting reading the different thoughts on the title, some believing it was based on a true crime committed by Ruth Snyder 1927

Thank you for my #elfswap @veritysalter couldn‘t stop reading 🥰

Hey all, sorry for the absence. My parents big house is the land of little to no cell service or internet. I could respond to posts but not make any. So the first thing I want to do is send a big THANK YOU to @AmyG for my #elfswap. I love it all. Josh loved the snickers which is why it‘s not in the picture. 😜. The kids got a hold of the goldfish today (but at least they shared.). We have ripped open the bad guys and started reading. 👇🏻

LibrarianRyan My youngest nephew is still on level one readers (in first grade and it worries me, but his mom and teacher just tell me he‘s lazy and hates to read). But he was entranced with these books, and I love them so hopefully as we are reading them together he will want to borrow them. So I am very grateful for my own set as the public library is closed. I really need to finish the Brown series so It‘s nice the book. Plus👇🏻 4y
LibrarianRyan The mask, the pouch, the notebook that is almost too pretty to write in love it. Love it all. Thank you. 4y
AmyG I had fun shopping for you. Merry Christmas! 4y

BethM That mask is so cool! 4y
CBee @LibrarianRyan my 8 year old son and I are reading The Bad Guys too! He got the same boxed set from Santa. He‘s a great reader but I struggle to find books he‘s interested in, so win win for me 😁♥️ Mr. Piranha is my favorite character btw 😂 4y
LibrarianRyan @CBee personally I‘m on book 6. My nephew book 1 and the oldest nephew has read up to 7 I think. I love me. Shark. 4y
CBee @LibrarianRyan we got to 4 and will read 5 tomorrow. And he asked me to order the rest of the series, so of course I jumped on that 😂 Shark is awesome too. And Legs!! Oh my gosh love them all. 4y

Chrissyreadit @Gissy for real!! I‘m working today and tomorrow but I can‘t wait to just curl up and read! 4y
Chrissyreadit @KatieDid927 they smell amazing. I‘m burning March Family Christmas now and it is heavenly! Cookies, citrus, pine and apple cider. It really smells like Christmas! 4y
Chrissyreadit @LeahBergen they really are! So worth the wait! 4y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! I'm so glad that it finally made it to you!!! I'm glad you like the candles because I know I sent you some with your swap package earlier this year 😂 But her Christmas scents were just irresistible!! I can't remember if I told you, but Emily Duncan is a local author to my hometown (Lancaster) - she actually was in the same home school group with my little sister haha Anyway, glad it all arrived - Merry belated Christmas!!! 4y
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks I love the candles! I‘m so glad you sent more! Did you homeschool? I homeschooled my kids- now my son takes college classes and my daughter graduated and is going to model for a few years. 4y
TheAromaofBooks Yes, Mom started homeschooling when I was in 3rd grade (1992) & her youngest graduated in 2018!! It was still a new-ish concept when she started - we were one of the first families to start in our county. 4y
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks I loved everything about homeschool. It‘s always been pretty common in our area since we only started when my kids were 6 and 7. Do you think you would homeschool your kids? 4y
TheAromaofBooks Oh I definitely would!! Every year Mom would ask if we would rather go to public school and we always said no 😂 It was an almost universally positive experience in our family. Plus, there are so many aspects of our current education system that just don't sit well with me. 4y
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks I just asked my kids and they also said they would not change their homeschooling and would homeschool their kids too. 4y
TheAromaofBooks There's just so much freedom & flexibility that comes with it, with your time & with how you study/learn & even with WHAT you study & learn. I know it's not practical for everyone, but for our family it was perfect. 4y
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks I agree. It was challenging at first because I worked the entire time- but we loved it- and they had so many great experiences. The flexibility was another opportunity. 4y
Avanders Yay!! 😍🧚🏽‍♀️♥️🎄 4y
