What am I reading? 😱
The Long Walk was written by Stephen King, aged 18, under the pen name Richard Bachman. It is absolutely horrifying.
#LosersClub @BarkingMadRead

BarkingMadRead Oh wow, I haven‘t read this in decades, I do remember it being messed up, though! 2w
sarahbarnes I still think about this story years after reading it. 2w
AllDebooks @BarkingMadRead @sarahbarnes Honesty, I can't get my ahead around the fact that he wrote this at 18! 2w

Ok so maybe technically not a Christmas show 😜 but I loved this line from the Season 1 finale. I got the Peacock Black Friday deal where you get the whole year for $20 so I am finally watching this series after reading the Bill Hodges trilogy last year with #LosersClub. So far I‘m really enjoying this adaptation. #HolidayBookDragons #WinterGames2024

BarkingMadRead I adored this series. So so good. 3w

This month‘s book is #Rage Grab your copy and check back at the end of the month for open discussion! Don‘t forget to tag me so I can see which version you have! #LosersClub #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead

5feet.of.fury I found a link on Reddit where you can read the full book online which I would never officially advocate for, but I know this one is hard to find. So, just putting it out there. Happy googling to those impacted (edited) 3w
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury I feel like if you could buy the book but read it that way, that would be like taking money from the author. But if the book isn‘t available for sale 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w

5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRead yeah, I‘m gonna hit up a couple of the used bookstores near me (on the off chance they don‘t know what they have, because wow those prices) but it‘s my backup plan. King has alot of my money 😂 I‘ll sleep ok this once haha 3w
JenlovesJT47 You can also download it for free here, since it is unavailable for sale: https://annas-archive.org/md5/47f228955fd87588ff9965f1e5cc92cb 3w
TieDyeDude @5feet.of.fury @barkingmadread King has specifically let “Rage“ go out-of-print, so read it wherever you can find it with a clear conscience! https://screenrant.com/stephen-king-rage-book-out-print-controversy-explained/ (edited) 3w
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude yes, that is correct 3w
ImperfectCJ I know my mom has a copy of The Bachman Books, but she's 2000 miles away and not at all keen on splitting up her King collection, even temporarily. I'm probably skipping this one for now, although it would be interesting to read again with the context of a few decades. 3w

Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #SalemsLot
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

5feet.of.fury I liked when Ben Mears is talking about writing his new book and he says something about writing it really gory and detailed to “really rub the reader‘s nose in it” which is funny because that‘s what SK does -but hadn‘t REALLY done yet because this was his 2nd published book. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting, my brain latched on to that tiny detail 3w
5feet.of.fury Way too many townspeople at points. But I really liked the core characters 3w

BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury definitely a peeve of mine with all the characters, he so loves to do it 🤣 3w
BookwormAHN My copy just came in from the library but since this is a reread, one of the things that drove me nuts the first time around was the endless descriptions of scenery 😸 3w
Bookwormjillk I loved the forward (read by King himself in the audiobook.) It took a while for this book to get going. I was a little surprised he was allowed to get away with that even in his second book. I enjoyed it though. Loved the nods to Dracula that he built in. 3w
Karkar The first time I read this book it scared me more than any other book before. But this being my third time thru it was a different read to pick up details that I did not the past times. 3w
TieDyeDude @barkingmadread @5feet.of.fury @Bookwormahn @bookwormjillk @karkar I get the annoyance with a lot of characters, but I think it helps up the stakes of the story; you're not just concerned about a handful of main characters, you worry about the whole town. I thought the same recently with Billy Summers; with the office workers and neighbors in the first part of the story, there is more dread because there are many people you want to be safe 🙂 3w
TieDyeDude I also enjoyed, in this book, seeing the characters figure out which vampire myths would work or not. I like when his characters live in “our world“ and have the same cultural touchstones. There is less “Why would you do that?!“ and more “Is that what I would have done?“ 3w
5feet.of.fury @TieDyeDude yeah, I can see that! I think some of the personalities were too close in this one, they just didn‘t seem super distinct. 3w

This was my first time reading this edition of ‘Salem‘s Lot. This book includes a section of deleted scenes from the original manuscript, the short stories One for the Road and Jerusalem‘s Lot, and black and white photography in the section breaks.

This is still one of my favorite vampire novels.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It took a minute to get to the point in this one, but once it got going it was great. So fun to read this right after Dracula. I‘m impressed that King has had a consistent voice and style for over 50 years. #LosersClub

BarkingMadRead The timing was epic 3w
Bookwormjillk @BarkingMadRead It really was. Thanks to you! 3w
