Stand - Volume 1: Captain Trips | Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Pickpick

Volume 1&2 of the graphic novel adaptation of The Stand.
I'm actually impressed at how well the story is paced so far. For example, they don't waste a lot of pages on Nick's time as deputy, but they leave space for scenes like Lloyd's prison time and the Lincoln Tunnel to breathe. The artist is the same that recently underwhelmed me with heavy lines and thick shadows in The Bat-Man First Knight, and he's still not my favorite, but it happens.

#Litsyafterdark 2 nights ago I lay down to go to bed and about 20 minutes later I heard honking outside and it kept going. I got up and saw truck lights outside. I open the main door and keep my metal screen door closed. I yell out can I help you. The guy in the truck whose face I can‘t see says-Is this Tacoma LN. I say no. He says-I punches it into a gps and this is where it takes me. Me-Sorry-it‘s Railroad I don‘t know what to tell you. He 👇🏼

Reggie speeds off. I lay down again and what I think is 20 minutes later I hear someone outside banging on my door. Which is weird to me because never have people visit me after 12. I open the door and there are the most handsome, chocolatey, muscley, Black men I have ever seen. They‘re wearing white tanks and their biceps have biceps. They say in their sexiest voice, hey man, let us in. And it is every start of a dream I have ever wanted but I see 👇🏼 (edited) 2d
Reggie menace in their eyes and even in a dream I vote against my best interests. I say no sorry guys have a good night. They start slamming their fists against the door yelling LET US IN! One of them goes to the side of my duplex and I hear him beating at a window. I run to my kitchen and get a dirty knife out of the sink. I don‘t know why I don‘t get a clean knife. This detail bothers me Litsy. So I run to the room. He‘s broken in and is climbing👇🏼 2d
Reggie down, and I‘ve just seen too many home invasion movies, I proceed to stab him to death. And that‘s when I hear that the other guy has broken through the front door. I hide in the corner and he runs in and sees his friend and says-Awwww man, he killed you. And that‘s when I pounce and stab him to death. Litsy it brings me no pleasure to tell you this nightmare because in the first few minutes I thought this was gonna be my peanut butter Oreo 👇🏼 2d

Reggie fantasy come true. But alas I think it was a message. I read nothing but romance since Valentine‘s Day and I have loved my romance vacation but the darkness wants me back. So my next book- it will be horror. lol all that for that. Good day, Litsy! 2d

Pickpick

I was not excited about picking up King's 1981 nonfiction book about the horror genre, but his engaging style of writing made this read super enjoyable. I would have given it 5 stars, but for the fact that is is really outdated. Which is, of course, not the book's fault. Most of the writers/filmmakers discussed are white men. There are a couple of white women. Zero creators of color (again, 1981). But overall an enjoyable book.

Bookwormjillk It was fun to revisit his earlier stories and see him start to play with some of his longer books and themes. My dad had the version with the eyeball hand on the cover when I was a kid and I always had nightmares about it. Also Children if the Corn was a sleepover favorite so yay for nostalgia. 5d
AllDebooks I enjoyed this collection. As @Bookwormjillk said, it's fun seeing the formation of his longer works. Children of the corn was so creepy. X 5d

TieDyeDude I was surprised to see him flirt with sci-fi with I Am the Doorway. He doesn't seem to play in that sandbox too often. I liked the "bad deal" stories, Quitters Inc, The Ledge, Lawnmower Man. Lawnmower, Trucks, and Mangler were pretty silly ? I found Last Rung ? maybe the most memorable. It had an aching sweetness to it, but I seem to like unrequited/unreciprocated love stories for some reason... 5d
BarkingMadRead @alldebooks children of the corn has always creeped me out! The movie is so messed up! @TieDyeDude yes! Mangler was so silly at the end 🤣 5d
Balibee146 Oh I love that edition. I didn't pick up Night Shift last month sadly but I do like it as a collection. I really enjoy King short stories 😍 5d
LoverOfLearning Just recently started reading SK! Long list of books to read 😩 5d
kwmg40 I enjoyed these stories, especially because, as @Bookwormjillk mentioned, we can see themes that King expands on in future books. Like several of you here, I too found Children of the Corn very creepy. 2d

Pickpick

Most of the stories in this collection were good. I found an old copy of the audio version with John Glover narrating. He was enthusiastic and talented but had a limited number of voices. Several cautionary tales about signing deals, a couple Salem's Lot stories, several rats, and more. A fun sampling of early King.
