Today‘s #weirdwords selection is from Jewish folklore. Sign me up for anything folklore, mythological, and the like 🤓 @TheBookHippie your post inspired me 😁 #weirdwordwednesday

dabbe I want a golem as a protector! Mine would probably turn into a destructive one, though ... like Gollum in LOTR. 🩵💙🩵 2mo

CatLass007 I just finished the first three books of the Black Hat Bureau series, in which one of the main characters is a golem. Fun books! 2mo
lil1inblue @dabbe #ditto 🩵🤣 2mo
AlaMich This is a great novel with a golem as the MC. 2mo
CBee @dabbe hahaha mine probably would too. I‘d rather some Heinzelmännchen: https://germangirlinamerica.com/heinzelmannchen-the-elves-of-cologne/ 2mo
CBee @AlaMich I‘ve heard that‘s a good one! 2mo
CBee @JenniferEgnor one that wreaks havoc, I see 🫣🫣 2mo
CBee @CatLass007 cool! 2mo
dabbe @CBee @CBee Oh, yes please! How adorable! 🩵💙🩵 2mo
CatLass007 There was an episode of the X-Files that featured a golem. But when Dana Scully was narrating, she called it a gollum. 2mo
AnnCrystal 🆒☺️👍🏼💝. 2mo
StaceGhost I just saw a really cool seminar about golems in folklore! Love all the new books with golems coming out 2mo
CBee @CatLass007 I think the pronunciation is similar? I can see how one would pronounce it gollum. I‘m too much of an LOTR fan to make that mistake 😂🤓 2mo
CBee @StaceGhost that sounds awesome! 2mo

I adore mythological stories.

CBee ME TOO!!! I never tire of mythology. Edith Hamilton‘s book turned me into such a nerd for it 🤓🤓 2mo
lil1inblue I vividly remember my introduction to Greek mythology in the 4th grade. I was OBSESSED. I remember being so morose when the unit was over! Since then, I've been drawn to all sorts of mythological stories form all sorts of cultures! 😍 2mo

dabbe @lil1inblue Me, too! I loved that the stories were short, too! 😂 I adored teaching THE ILIAD and THE ODYSSEY to my honors freshmen. They didn't love it as much as I did, though! 😍 2mo
lil1inblue @dabbe I loved reading both in high school - my teacher adored them, as well, so it made it all the better! So many great discussions! 🤩 I should reread them one of these days.... 2mo
dabbe @lil1inblue So many books ... 😍 2mo

A Ghanaian concept, the word is expanded into the proverb “se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi.”

Sankofa is the understanding that only by knowing your (personal, cultural, national) history can you know your current self, and know how to become better.

The concept feels particularly relevant right now.

#WeirdWordWednesday #WeirdWords

shortsarahrose I‘ve heard this used in meditation practices before. Like you pick something you want to get out of your practice as a sankofa, say it a few times, and then let it go. 4mo
CBee I always love the words you post! 4mo
