I finally finished it!! And…I loved it!! This took me months to get through but it wasn‘t because I wasn‘t enjoying myself, it‘s just a pretty dense, heavy story. It reminded me a lot of a Stephen King novel, which is a compliment as I love King. So much more than a horror story! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A swirling mix of good vs evil; second chances, alternate realties, and familial love. With a healthy dose of horror. I had to put it aside a few times to let the story sink in and I‘m glad I did. It was a fantastic novel.

Love Chuck Wendig! The journey in this book is of a family, a demonic presence, multiple timelines, and sentient sculptures. Wendig has taken a genre-horror or suspense, whatever you like-subtracting mistrust and adding the element of cohesion in the face of chaos. The reader recognizes the references without feeling bombarded, and the storytelling gives the birds eye (🦉👁️❓) view of the motivations of each character. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So excited to read this

A little horror, a little sci-fi, a little emotional family drama, this is an interesting novel that falls short of being great primarily because it tries to do too much. The middle, especially, feels bogged down and meandering, like Wendig tried to write his way out of plot uncertainties, which is a fine process but could have used some caring editorial excision. Still, it has good bones and some indelible imagery.

Audiogardening. I got our avocado plants we started as a pandemic project repotted and set up the raised bed the landlord had sitting unused. I need another bag of potting mix before I can plant the tomatoes and peas my elder child brought home from botany lab, but it's a decent start. I've decided that the growing seasons I know from Utah, North Carolina, and Massachusetts mean nothing in SoCal, so I plant whenever the urge strikes.

This book was a wild ride with lots of twists and turns.

5-15-22: My 45th finished book of 2022! This book was insane, in a good way. Oliver, a 15 year old empath, and his parents, Nate an ex Philly cop, and Maddie an artist, move out of Philly to Oliver‘s grandfathers home. What lies in wait for them is otherworldly. A dead serial killer, multiple realities and versions of themselves, ghosts, art that comes alive. The family must band together to make it through. Very fast paced and exciting!

Looking forward to this one!

This had a terrific start and a solid ending. The middle went a bit off the rails and could easily have been edited down a lot. I think overall it was a pick, but for a while there I actually thought about bailing.

This was a odd book to listen to.. kind of interesting though..

Date night with my husband included a stop at the bookstore!

A creepy, trippy book of alternate time lines. Nate and Maddie are ok characters. For me the star was Ollie, their son. He was supposed to be in high school in the book but read like a 10 year old. I always felt a shock when I read his class mate was driving him someplace.

This is an epic story of good vs evil. Ollie and his family battle the forces that want to bring about the end of the world.

Not a traditional horror story, definitely out there. Still wondering how authors come up with these storyline? Even though I wonder how I am glad they do.

Filling in at school today and tomorrow. It is nice to be out and still get to read.

I should mate that tote of socks but this book has me. Laundry is getting done. Clean sheets on the bed. Kids at school, husband at physical therapy, the sock will wait.

I am the mom reading during the kids movie. We are the only people here so I am distracting no one.

This was so good. Kind of Stephen King-ish. It probably could have used more editing, but I couldn‘t put it down.

I can‘t seem to get warm today. I‘m going to finish this book though. And before I have to help the kid study for a physics test. Eww… physics. Thanks to this book, I‘m also going to surpass 20hrs.

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel! This story follows the Graves family as they move into Mr. Graves's old family home. Little did this family know that there are secrets buried here that refuse to rest. Unleashing a devilish turn of events that will change their lives in ways they never saw coming. #halloweenread

It's funny how this month I ended up reading three books that are my favorites of the year (Cloud Cuckoo Land, Under the Whispering Door, Empire of the Vampire) and then came across these two books in a row that I'm DNF'ing. I love Chuck Wendig normally, but this one is a bit too gory and has too many animal deaths. The other has a kitten death early on and I couldn't handle it. 😞 I'm sorry these didn't work out for me!

Reminiscent of Stephen King‘s storytelling, this story manages to be dark & twisty while still examining our individual nature. I found myself thinking about second chances, right and wrong decisions and the cosmic luck of our universe.

First time reading a Chuck Wendig novel. It‘s mostly horror with some dark fantasy in it. I‘m enjoying it.

So I‘m kinda doing a theme read for my favorite month of October and to start it off I just finished this one. I personally found it to be entertaining. A little Stephen King like and yes it‘s got random twists and turns and is kinda confusing but still creepy good. I truly enjoyed the characters so I was down for the journey.

May not be the most impressive TBR in terms of quantity, but my goal is to get in at least 1 a week during #scarathlon2021 😊 #teamhendrix

I also may take a trip to the library to see what other creepy reads I can add. I'm a mood reader, so we'll see how closely I stick to to this plan! @StayCurious

This was one weird yarn...I say yarn because it was reminiscent of a ball of yarn rolling down a hill and unraveling in all sorts of crazy ways. Tripping over rocks and picking up scraps of debris along the way. Some of that debris clouded up the story…making it difficult for me to stay IN the story. Overall, it had great characters but the story was fairly confusing.

It‘s long and a little weird. It‘s not bad but def not my favorite.

This book was not for me. I just thought it was so confusing and so boring. I didn't understand what was going on most of the time. And at the end of the book it all came together and I understood. But I just didn't feel like it was worth listening to for just the end to finally figure out what the heck you've been listening to. I just wanted the book to end so bad. 1/5 stars

A homage to Stephen King old style horror, which is nice to see although it fell a bit short for me. It was badly in need of an editor as there were some repeats going on here. It was not at all what i was expecting, although the twist into a multiverse was very cool. My grumbles was the dialogue of the characters didn‘t feel real to me and it was a messy ending. I would have liked a lot more explanation about what was all that going on lol!

Starts as a slow burn & then spins off like a top. Even though it builds slowly it has some truly horrific elements, dark humor, suspense, fantasy, magic & sci-fi. It‘s a real mash-up!

I had never read a Chuck Wendig novel before. This book reminds me of old school Stephen King with a little Stranger Things mixed in. It unfolds through the perspectives of Oliver, Nate & Maddie. Each member of this tiny family carries secrets & trauma that feed the evil in their world. As the monster among them grows larger, their relationships must evolve.

I really loved this book even though it's nutty and hard to describe without spoilers. What I can say is that it's about a family trying to stay together even with their own secrets and a bunch of supernatural insanity that they end up in 👻

I enjoyed Wanderers, but I really loved this one! 💚 The creepy woods mixed with the ghost of a serial killer and a town with secrets all came together for the perfect horror book.

Random House sent me this ARC which I sadly did not receive until publication day but I'm never mad about a free book! Now, to decide between this one and Sixteen Horses. 🤔

Reminiscent of the big horror tomes of the 80s (think King, Koontz, McCammon), this is a chunkster of a book that really delivers on the good versus evil, return-home-to-creepy town story! #NetGalley #TheBookOfAccidenrs

This is a good one to read with the lights on…I really liked the first half of the story—it was creepy & atmospheric & Wendig did a great job building tension & suspense. And then there was a chapter after which, the book just didn‘t hold together quite as well for me. That being said, I enjoyed it overall & if horror is your thing, this is a solid read. Good characters & plenty of creepiness make this a pick. On sale 7/20/21.

The Book of Accidents proved to be refreshingly different from anything else I have read. I loved the Graves family, but I especially adored what Wendig did with Oliver‘s character and the storyline surrounding his sensitivity. It brought such a beautiful purpose into the narrative.

This is straight up supernatural horror, and an interesting read. I love how one of the main characters can literally see people‘s pain. What a fascinating concept - and a horrible burden. Good characters, multiverses, horror, atrocious acts, and also acts of love and family bonds. I liked the ending despite, or due to?, its ambiguity. Solid addition to the horror genre. #netgalley #arc #dogsoflitsy #rescuedogs

A book that any fan of horror will most certainly enjoy! 5 stars!
