A World Without Princes
A World Without Princes | Soman Chainani
The School for Good and Evil 2-Book Box Set; PB 9780062424372] Enjoy Soman Chainani's New York Times bestselling series, The School for Good and Evil, in this paperback box set featuring the first two books--The School for Good and Evil and The School for Good and Evil: A World Without Princes. This is an epic journey to a dazzling new world in which best friends Sophie and Agatha enter the School for Good and Evil, where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy-tale heroes and villains. Sophie, with her glass slippers and pink dresses, thinks she'll earn top marks at the School for Good. Meanwhile, Agatha, with her shapeless black frocks and wicked black cat, seems a natural fit for the School for Evil. But when the two girls are swept into the Endless Woods, they find their fortunes are reversed.... The aftermath leads to unexpected paths, new alliances, and an exhilarating quest to find their true Ever After. Soman Chainani has created a spectacular world that Rick Riordan, author of the bestselling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, says "reimagines the world of fairy tales and will make you question who is good and who is evil," and that Newbery Medal-winning author Ann M. Martin calls "a fairy tale like no other, complete with romance, magic, humor, and a riddle that will keep you turning pages until the end."

Finished off this book while waiting for my library holds to come in. Chainani continues the dissection of fairy tales in this series: good and evil in the first book, and now the gender expectations for boy and girl. Tensions between friendships and burgeoning romantic interests are also explored.

While I enjoyed book 1, I really enjoyed book 2. The ending is still predictable for me, but it didn't make the story less enjoyable. Now I need to get my hands on book #3.

Did I enjoy my reread of the first book enough that I decided to continue with the series? Yep, I did. It‘s a fun read & it‘s easy to see why it is so popular with middle grade readers (and likely others as well). It‘s also a really entertaining examination of good vs evil (and what is good and/or evil), fairy tales, and friendship. The books may run long but the story never lags and I‘m ready to dive into the second book in the series!

This was a good choice for me to be reading in the wee hours of the #readathon, as the last 100 or so pages are almost totally action. The second in this middle grade/YA cusp series, Sophie and Agatha find themselves back at School, only with boys on one side and girls the other. Whose Ever After will win out? Why is the new headmistress so controlling? Which girl does Tedros love? Lots of drama and angst but still fun, even if I‘m not the …

LauraBrook … intended age group. I‘ll be reading the next in the series, somewhat begrudgingly, as I already own it and the next two after that as well. Book 4/3 Pages 940/500 #deweyapril Seeing as it‘s nearly 2:30AM I‘m off to bed to sleep for a bit. 3y

I wonder why Agatha wasn't happy with her happy ending Sophie gave her. It seemed like it was a pretty good. I'm curious about this because maybe Sophie later on in the story will feel hurt that she wished for a diffrent happily ever after when she finds out that is what Agatha secretly wished for. I think Sophie may also be frustrated later on because she was completely happy with her ending and who knows it might change.

I think I would have enjoyed this more as a book rather than an #audiobook. The voiceacting was fine, but the plot got a little jumbled in this format. This series kind of bothers me: I know that it's middle grade, but it sometimes doesn't feel nuanced enough when dealing with genders, good vs evil, romance, or beauty. Other times it feels like the subtext is very complicated surrounding these issues but not brought to the forefront enough. ⬇️

rjsthumbelina In this book, best friends Sophie and Agatha go back to the School for Good and Evil to find that their story has been reopened and the boys have been pushed out of the school and of some kingdoms, since their ending before proved that girls don't need the boys. The plot was interesting. Tedros is for sure the most interesting character now. I will probably continue the series, but not right away - and I was very disappointed with the ending 6y

My reading habits have changed a lot since joining Litsy! I listen to #audiobooks a LOT more. (I always listen to them while I drive.) - The tagged book is my current audio.
Also, I read a lot more different genres, especially more nonfiction!
Also, I read a lot more with other people!

Middle grade but trying to save fairy tales and themselves these 2 girls have to bind together to get it done. One is evil one is good but friendship helps them through. Can‘t wait to give this to my niece to read.

This is the second book in The School For Good And Evil trilogy. A World Without Princes is intense and filled with chaos! It's boys versus girls this time but someone has a secret agenda and will go to any lengths to see it fulfilled.

For a sequel it wasn't my favorite. I loved all the characters and hated their decisions. It was all about a gender war between boys and girls but like...where are the trans and non-binary kids? Also there was more bullying in this one, I got the context but didn't enjoy it. The cliffhanger ending was distressing. Mainly I love the characters still and read it because I enjoy the world they live in. I just didn't like this particular story.

I don't know how I feel about this book. It raised a lot of issues and stereotypes that were never actually dealt with in this book. I'm definitely going to read book 3 right away and I hope it wrap everything up and deals with the blatant sexism laced throughout this whole book

Really enjoyed this. Definitely continued the theme and concept over from the first book really well. I still love the fairy tale aspects and the odes to the great fantasy classics. A few twists in there surprised me, which I really liked. Need to get to the book store and grab the third one as soon as I can!

I found that this book dragged a bit and I was unimpressed with how the author pitted friend against friend and boys against girls. We are not each other's enemies. I liked the intrigue and the ending but I wasn't happy that in choosing a partner friends had to be left behind. I'm hoping this gets rectified in the next book.
