Liked but enjoyed Harold Frye‘s journey better. Now I‘ve started reading Maureen‘s perspective.

I loved this book. My favorite of the trilogy. A book about death that is bursting with life. A delight. Wonderful on audio. 4.5 🌟

I‘m not sure what I expected from this companion novel to THE UNLIKELY PILGRIMAGE OF HAROLD FRY- but this fell a little short for me. Maybe because the end is so inevitable? Or that despite Joyce‘s best attempts, this is just a sad, sad story about unrequited love and regrets all set against the backdrop of hospice. I just never looked forward to picking it up despite the characters and great performance…

One of my all-time favourite books, along with its partner book, ‘The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry‘, but bring tissues!

This book is the companion to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. In this novel, we get Queenie‘s story, the friend for whom Harold is making his pilgrimage. Queenie is dying and needs to confess to Harold, so she takes up a pen and writes him a letter. We meet her fellow patients and caregivers as well, and they make an eccentric, quirky group of characters. Queenie‘s moving story is about finding forgiveness before death. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This is the followed up to 'The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Frye'. Miss Queenie is in hospice and writes a letter to Harold to say goodbye. While she waits for him, she continues writing to him. I absolutely adored this book

Book 150 I listened to Queenie's perspective in Rachel Joyce's companion novel to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.Though I appreciate knowing more of the story of Queenie and Harold, it's a disappointing story.The entire book serves as a pilgrimage to lost potential. Trite and flat, Queenie's peers at the nursing home exist solely to increase anticipation for Harold's arrival.The ending was somewhat redemptive, as it had a surprising twist.

What a really good book. It's a sequel to "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Frye" but you can read as standalone. I have read 3 of this authors books, and loved them all. Miss Hennessy is in hospice and receives a letter from Harold telling her he's on his way. While waiting, she writes to him every day, and the Sister transcribes, everything she has wanted to say to him(after 20 years). This book will touch your heart

This a great companion book to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry book. I suggest reading the Harold Fry book first though as Queenie's story will then make more sense. I found Queenie's love song to be very moving, tender and humorous in parts. It's about finding joy in sad circumstances and living life to the fullest. It's beautifully written and will be sure to touch your soul.

First of all: No I didn‘t like large parts of this book. The idea of pining away for someone a whole adult lifetime isn‘t very realistic to me. Also, Queenie doesn‘t seem smart to me, only weak.

But I liked the end (Sister Inconnue) and all that Quennie says during the last 2 hours about her garden. It‘s for that and for that I think the process of dying is described authentically that it‘s a “So-So”. Apart from that it‘s dragging and too long.

1️⃣ _Noooo_‼️So much no‼️I feel cold easily and my muscles become stiff and then I can‘t move properly. And getting dressed in the morning takes so much more time because of so many layers. 😭

2️⃣ • 📖 “🇬🇧 The Sanctuary”: Just started, but feels good. Robert-Langdon-like. • 🎧📖 „Der nie abgeschickte Liebesbrief an Harold Fry“: At first annoying but I find lovely parts also by now.

3) A stunning cheeky kid that has still to be discovered. Hilary Swank. Judi Dench.

I admit I just checked this out from my library because I was a bit at a loss. I didn‘t feel like any of the other audiobooks on my wish list that were available. Might be why at hour 3 of 7 I am still not captured. I didn‘t like “Harold Fry”, you remember, and I am so annoyed by that repeated “I‘m-in-love-with-you”–theme. Oh, deal with it‼️🙄 Sigh. 😔 The scenes in hospice seem authentic but much other (inhabitants, nurses) is too exaggerated.

The book is the sequel of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. Both books are very entertaining!

“I am someone who has always run from difficulty, and it dawns on me that I don't have to go on that way. We write ourselves certain parts and then keep playing them as if we have no choice. But a tardy person can become a punctual one, if she chooses. You don't have to keep being the thing you have become. It is never too late“ (93-94).

Very touching with many poignant insights about life, death, love and guilt. I very much enjoyed this book but was a little . . . I‘m not even sure how i feel about the ending. Overall this is still a pick and fantastic companion novel the The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry but it may take me some time to sort out how i feel about the ending.

This companion book to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (I gave ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ on Goodreads) was also excellent! This is Queenie‘s story, told in part with flashbacks and in part with her writing a letter to Harold while in hospice with terminal cancer. The hospice chapters aren‘t as sad as you would think as she is surrounded by an interesting menagerie of characters. Like with Harold‘s book, the ending is beautifully sad and wiped me out. 😰

I liked this book even more than its companion novel The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Frye. As Queenie waits in hospice for Harold‘s arrival she thinks back on the past and tries to find a way to explain her feelings of love and guilt. #readathon

Rachel Joyce is one of my #favouriteauthors and I released this copy of her third book in Elmhurst Park, Woodbridge, #Suffolk. You can just see the book on the bench in the background. Whilst in Woodbridge I purchased her fourth book The Music Shop, anyone else read it yet?

1- 35 The least amount of reading I‘ve had in many years. More work = less reading 😭

All the feels! A beautiful follow-up to Harold Fry. (I finished while at the dog run with Dexter.)

This story reminded me of a movie I recently watched called “Irreplaceable You.” Both the movie & this book deal with people who have terminal illnesses and how they face their death. Both are beautiful, touching stories.

And this marks a total of about 4 hrs for the #25inFive. (I‘m really bad about tracking time, so that‘s a guesstimate.)

My favorite read so far this year is The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy. I‘m almost done with it, and I‘ve thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

Another great story by Rachel Joyce, out her work so far her newest novel The Music Shop is the only one I haven‘t liked, it didn‘t have her magic- it felt flat. I like TLOQH even better than I liked The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry! Joyce‘s enchantment of quirky lovable characters, messy real human lives, serious topics handled in a silly/funny manner and great stories shines in TLOQH! I HIGHLY recommend! Read Harold Fry first. 😁

The final #BookMail from Goldsboro was my free book which turned out to be the best one! It‘s a slipcovered, numbered & signed copy of Rachel Joyce‘s follow up novel to The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry, The Love Song Of Miss Queenie Hennessy. She def loves a long title. Such a beautiful book, the top 2 are the front & back of the slipcover, the bottom of the actual book. The only place the name is is on the spine. I love it!💕

It is now 2 November where I live so I‘m pondering which book to choose when thinking of the word Beautiful.

This book is a companion to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. Both books would rank in my top 10 books I‘ve read in the last 10 years.

This one is so heartbreakingly beautiful I knew I must choose it.

What a lovely, lovely book! This is the parallel story to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry - told through a series of letters from Queenie as she struggles during her time in hospice. My heart just ached for the MC as she pushed herself in her own journey toward Harold. I would recommend reading these two books close together for full emotional impact. All the stars!!

God, if I thought Harold Fry *destroyed* me ... I don't know how to even begin describing what Queenie did to me 😭

I happened upon this novel in our lovely book shop on a sad day. I was looking for a chicken soup sort of book. Remembering the warmth of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, I chose this and found it just as soothing and nurturing as I'd hoped. Not an action blockbuster. Not a laugh out loud riotous affair. But gentle and life affirming. Thank you Queenie.

I absolutely loved the pilgrimage of harold fry, much more than I thought I would and knew I had to pick up this one. Anyone else??

The Rachel Joyce book was the big surprise for me, loved this book!

How do I describe this book - beautiful, poignant, sad, happy, entertaining, funny, thought provoking & a great reading experience. It is all these things & more. This book should be read and do read it alongside it's companion book, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. As the author says at the end it is not a prequel or a sequel but a companion. I am so glad I chose to read these two books, and am sad to have to say goodbye to the characters!
