Question: what does everyone do with books they want to unhaul?? These are all duplicates that I don‘t need 😬

P.S. If you live in the Frederick, MD area and want any of these let me know 😊 Free to a good home 📚
I tend to be a mood reader so who knows how many of these I will actually be in the mood to read but these are the ones I want to read at the moment 🤪

Otherland starts out with threads that are each fascinating, but seem unrelated. The main one follows a professor in a South African university, whose brother is comatose after an encounter in virtual reality, launching her into an investigation of powerful forces shaping the world for their own gain. Hang on, because some of these threads don't tie together until nearly the end, but tie in they do, in unsuspected ways.

The Otherland series is one I‘ve always wondered why more people weren‘t reading. Yeah, they‘re heavy duty door stopper chunksters. But this story has so much depth, I was lost in it. An incredible cast of characters too. I loved them!
It took me FOREVER to read this! It was off and on for over 2 years and then a couple of months on audio (it‘s a long listen!). But in the end I really enjoyed it. I‘m glad I read it.

📺 Nope.
📺 Netflix & YouTube.
📺 Anime And Scifi.
📺 Rarely. I prefer music on if I'm reading.
📺 The Sandman comics. Also, the Otherland series by Tad Williams.
I‘ve stalled again on Vol. 1 of Otherland, so I checked Audible once again, because I couldn‘t believe there really wasn‘t an audiobook version of it already and lo, and behold! It comes out on July 17, so I pre-ordered it, using one of the credits that‘ve been piling up. I‘m sure I will finally be able to put this to rest as an audio book. @GrilledCheeseSamurai
I‘m still trying to downsize my book collection. But I keep coming home with more.
When your friend says they have a favorite series and you haven‘t read it yet then these things will happen.

Got the shopping done and now I have 15 minutes in which to read while I wait for the young man to finish fencing.
Sitting down to read and drink some decaf coffee ☕️! It‘s cold and snowy outside. #otherlandbuddyread
1. The Otherland Series, hands down. (I was thinking # of pages.. they're long books!!)
2. Discovery of Witches.. 😬🙊🙈.. this is most unusual for me bc I normally love witches and vampires and have a hard time walking away from a book. That one was clearly *not* for me.
3. Generally pass it on... I keep ones that I'll want to lend out or *definitely* reread (ie the most favoritestests of the favorites)
4. Yep!

You guys, I have FINALLY gotten through the first major section of Otherland Vol. 1!! I‘m glad I‘m finally making progress on this book. Goodreads tells me I started this on Dec. 12, 2016!! Not to mention that it was given to me as a gift in the late 1990‘s. Probably 1998, which makes it one of the oldest unread books in my collection! #MountTBR #otherlandbuddyread
I‘m finally getting back into this! I was hoping I could get the audiobook so I wouldn‘t have to lug this brick around (770 pages of hardcover), but Audible doesn‘t have it (in English! In German, yes! English, no?!?) and neither does my library. I will do my best to read from it every day, but I may get through it quickly!

When it came to picking a #belovedseries I had a very hard time. I have so many great series among my shelves. The Wheel of Time will always be my favorite, but I can't harp on it constantly and ignore all the other great series I've discovered over the years. So this time, I'm going with the Otherland series. The condition of my poor, battered paperback copies probably speaks to how much I've enjoyed reading them. 😁

I‘m on page 122 of our #OtherlandBuddyRead with @GrilledCheeseSamurai . I think I‘ll back up a bit to refresh my memory.
Here's the first few words of City Of Golden Shadow, from the Otherland series.
There's just something about the way Tad Williams tells a story that clicks with me. I've heard lots of folk complain about him being to wordy or slow moving. Not me. The man could write a book about eating a sandwich and I'd buy the hardcover! 🙋♂️
So happy to be back in his words again. 😍

@DivaDiane
I'm done work for the next 2 and a half days! 🙌
I got a few errands to run in the morning and after that I am hibernating in my house, locking my doors, ignoring the world, and sticking my nose in a book(s). The only human contact I want are fictional characters and my fellow Littens.
Celebrating with a cold beer and kicking things off by starting #OtherlandBuddyRead right now.
@DivaDiane and I are about to do a #OtherlandBuddyRead of City of Golden Shadow (1st of 4 in the Otherland series).
I read these back when they first came out in the mid 90's and as Tad is one of my favorite authors I wanted to revisit. It's a casual (side book) read so if any one else wants to join in...go for it! It's a no pressure go at your own pace kinda thing. @DivaDiane has already started and I'm gonna begin this week/weekend. 🙌

So besides my own #MountTBRdestruction, I‘m doing the #LPMBC through February, and #LitsyPassport -4 books. My Goodreads goal is 75 and I‘m my goal is that 50 of them should be Books I already own. That leaves 25 to split between new poetry collections, new kids books, and the odd new book purchase that I just have to read now. 😊
My book club had a mystery book swap last night. It was a lot of fun, and I got to add a bunch of titles to my TBR. 📚 🤓
Birthday book mail from the generous and thoughtful @Soubhiville ....it was a delight to receive. Many thanks!
What better place to achieve the #perfectillusion than in virtual reality? Become somebody new by creating a virtual sim (avatar) - the only limit is your own imagination. I really enjoyed this 4 volume science fiction saga, but as it was written in the late 90's I'm not sure how it would hold up today.
#augustgrrrl
The subtitle of the first book is City of Golden Shadows and I worked through this series in high school and college #goldenyears
They are all huge (that's how Tad Williams rolls) and tell the tale of a global fellowship battling their way through the myriad worlds of an immense virtual reality simulation, from ancient Troy to Wonderland, to stop its villainous creators.
At a family event I totally hid and read Mountain of Black Glass all day.
When I saw the #riotgrams prompt #greatdedications I immediately thought of Otherland. This is a four parter. Here we go.
A day late on my #shelfie. Yes that's a giant hamster wheel for my cats. The things you do for a hyperactive cat in a tiny apartment. #riotgrams
Back at the Nest of Blankets and Books, we have the books I'm currently reading. I've been switching between fiction and non-fiction today. Both have been on my TBR forever. One is set in a technologically advanced world where full immersion virtual reality is available and the other talks about murder in early 19th century London. So to say that they differ from each other would probably be an understatement. #AndAwayTheyGo
I'm down with a cold and, since I spent yesterday playing Dragon Age: Origins on the PC, I thought I would give this book a second try. Has anyone else read it? What do you think of it?
If I were to arrange my books by (original) publication date, the 1990s would be a very thin section. (Why? Was almost nothing good published then? Or did I get them all from the library?) There's the three first Harry Potter books of course. (OMG, 2017 will be the 20th anniversary! 😳) And then I have Otherland. I've been meaning to read the rest of the series. Was just too labour intensive at the time. #PhotoadayNov16 #PublishedInThe1990s
#gaminginthelitworld I love how Williams plays with concepts of identity and representation in cyberspace, especially cyber gaming. In rpgs, there's a character, and then there's their avatar, and that adds a nice dimension - I particularly love Sam! Photo from the coverart for Book 2 in the series. #octphotochallenge
A great start to an interesting quadrilogy. Lots of set up for the story as a whole, both character and world development. On its own it's an interesting read.
Such an amazing book with my favorite virtual reality worlds. Seriously dense series, but I couldn't stop until I'd read them all!
