Gertrude Hunt, the nicest Bed and Breakfast in Red Deer, Texas, is glad to have you. We cater to particular kind of guests, the ones most people dont know about. The older lady sipping her Mello Yello is called Caldenia, although she prefers Your Grace. She has a sizable bounty on her head, so if you hear kinetic or laser fire, try not to stand close to the target. Our chef is a Quillonian. The claws are a little unsettling, but he is a consummate professional and truly is the best chef in the Galaxy. If you see a dark shadow in the orchard late at night, dont worry. Someone is patrolling the grounds. Do beware of our dog.
Your safety and comfort is our first priority. The inn and your host, Dina Demille, will defend you at all costs. We ask only that you mind other guests and conduct yourself in a polite manner.

Another day, another picture of Pippin lounging under my Kindle. 🥰

I'm up to book three in this series and each one has gotten progressively better! I'll finish this one tonight and then have to take a quick break to read a book for an event Thursday, but I expect to finish the series this weekend.

Dina received an emergency message from her sister; her vampire friend and her werewolf almost boyfriend go with her to a planet full of vampire outlaws to rescue her. Sister and niece return to the Inn where they help Dina play host to the last of a species that is the focus of a religious hunt from a neighboring species and try to get an answer to their parents disappearance. SO many plots started, NEED authors to write more in this series!

jessjess I love this series so much! 3y

This is a re-read but still a great book. I love the idea of magical innkeepers and alien visitors.

A refreshing escape into a sci fi creature way station with the most interesting life forms. I think it's brilliant. Even the secondary characters are well drawn up.

Today‘s lunch & book.

Kindle estimates I‘ve got less than two hours left in ONE FELL SWEEP, so I should finish it this evening. Yay! It‘s great so far, but I do miss the illustrations. The chapters feel longer than they did in the first two books, too, so I wonder if Andrews tinkered with their serialization schedule with this one. (Or my attention span could be shot.)

Further reading over supper (which: kale and pies; chicken for my proper meal, with raspberry cream cheese for dessert). The first two Innkeeper books were rereads, but ONE FELL SWEEP is entirely new to me. I can‘t wait to see how it plays out.

NB: the darker parts of the raspberry pie‘s crust are caramelized sugar, not burnt patches.

Centique That looks so yummy 😊 4y
xicanti @Centique it really was! 4y
bcncookbookclub Seems delicious😋how difficult in to cooking it? 4y
xicanti @bcncookbookclub the pie crust takes a while to prepare and roll out, but the assembly process is really easy! 4y
bcncookbookclub @xicanti Great! I'll look around for the recipe! Thanks! 4y

Today‘s anti-stress-starving lunch was scrambled eggs with a ton of feta mixed in.

Today‘s book is ONE FELL SWEEP by Ilona Andrews, hot on the heels of SWEEP IN PEACE. I‘m having too much fun with this series to take a break now.

I don‘t expect to see a lot of TBR reduction in April since I hope to reread some stuff, but here‘re the four books I MUST clear off the pile:

• the third House Wars novel. I‘ve been craving Michelle West.
• the third Innkeeper novel. I‘ve had an ARC of the first series omnibus on La TBR for so long I think the fancy print edition might now be out of print. Um.
• a KJ Charles romp based on a classic I haven‘t read
• a short digital freebie

Another knockout from Ilona Andrews. I hope there will be many more Innkeeper stories, especially featuring Dina. I‘m looking forward to Maud‘s story, too.

Dina receives an SOS from her sister and drops everything to rescue her. Back at the Inn, a hunted alien species begs Dina for help to save their race, which triggers a war with another vicious alien race. Meanwhile, something is attacking Innkeepers.

Loved it!
This series is fantastic! Each book has been a 5 star read for me (fingers crossed for book 4). We get some great character interactions and developments in this one and some spaceship travel which was one of the things holding it back from feeling more like science fiction to me. Spaceships mean science fiction! The fantasy and sci-fi blend doesn‘t suffer for this though.

An intergalactic inn, where travelers across the universe can find rest, respite, & safety from whatever ails them. An innkeeper whose bond with the magical inn allows it to grow, alter, and defend all the guests who alight upon its turf. Throw in some space vampires and werewolves, portal travel, and some universe battles and that's this series. This is book 3, & really with Ilona Andrews you can't go wrong. Great writing and great characters!

Had to share. The Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Series usually has Sweep in the title, just like the tagged book, which is the third installment. Apparently her contest for new book names isn‘t going well...😂

And great advice from Jeaniene Frost, author of the Night Huntress series and others.

night_shift Omg. 😂😂😂 she needs to try and work it in because that's hilarious! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @UnidragonFrag It made me LOL when I read it, too funny. I guess the legacy of Boaty McBoatface has inspired a naming movement. 🤦‍♀️😂 6y

Earlier this year, I devoured the three books that are currently out in the Innkeeper Chronicles: Clean Sweep, Sweep in Peace and One Fell Sweep. They got me out of a bad reading slump (which I knew they would). I'm continually amazed at how awesome Ilona and Gordon's writing is! Consistently entertaining, like this free fiction that was available as serials on their blog.

(Continued in comments)
#Bestof2017 #scifi #fantasy

Chachic I waited to read until they were released as self-pubbed books, and predictably loved them. Such creative worldbuilding, I think it's fantasy mixed with sci-fi? I loved everything about it - from the innkeeper magically bound to an inn that caters to supernatural creatures like werewolves and vampires. And the characters were all so much fun to get to know! 6y
Chachic Dina is such a kickass heroine, and I love how she's able to hold her own amidst the various disasters the inn faces.

Included in my best of 2017 list, I highly recommend this series for specfic fans! If you feel like we have similar taste in books then you should definitely be reading Ilona Andrews, try any of their series. I've loved them all.❤

Chachic @robinb You're going to have so much fun readong this series! I'm sad that I've read all of their series but then I can always go back to them and reread. 6y
Beachesnbooks Omg your shirt!!! They are among my very favorite authors, I've read everything they have out and I can't wait for the final Kate book!! 6y
robinb @Chachic I know! That‘s the only thing I hate about getting to the end of an author‘s booklist...but yes, there‘s always re-living it through re-reads...thank goodness! 6y
Chachic @Beachesnbooks Same! The next one will be Hugh's book early next year and I can'r wait to hear more about it. Have you found any other urban fantasy series that you love as much as theirs? 6y
Chachic @robinb Oh their books hold up as excellent rereads, I can assure you of that! But I'm also hoping I'd find other authors to love as much as I love Ilona and Gordon.❤ 6y
robinb @Chachic actually no! So far the Andrews and Patricia Briggs are my two go-to urban fantasy authors (well technically three 😊). 6y
Chachic @robinb Ah I tried reading the Mercy Thompson series but quit after the third book, didn't feel like the series was for me. But yeah, a lot of Kate Daniels fans are also fans of that series. 6y
robinb @Chachic 👍 if you come up with any new winners, please pass them along! 😊 6y
Beachesnbooks I don't know what to expect from Hugh's book, but I'm definitely going to pick it up. That's such a good question because I haven't found another UF/PNR author that measures up in my opinion, but the closest I've come is Seanan McGuire's October Daye series, which starts slower but gets very good around books 4/5, and I really liked her Indexing books too, which is UF dark fairy tales. Mishell Baker's Arcadia Project series is great so far also. 6y
Beachesnbooks And Jacqueline Carey has a trilogy called Agent of Hel that has elements from different mythologies like the Kate books, but very different tone and set in Michigan. Enjoyed those 6y
Chachic @robinb If I find any good ones, I would definitely post about them here on Litsy.😉 6y
Chachic @Beachesnbooks I tried the first two October Daye series but couldn't really get into them so I quit after that. I remember reading Kushiel's Dart and thinking it wasn't a book for me, so I'm not sure if I'll try anything else of Jacqueline Carey's 6y

Yesterday's coffee and a book quote from One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews. I knew I was going to binge on the Innkeeper Chronicles as soon as I started reading it, and I was right. Been staying up until 3am on week nights to read the three books that are currently out (coffee has been a necessity). So good! But that's not surprising since I love Ilona and Gordon's writing.

Second coffee of the day! Stayed up past 3am again last night (this morning?) to finish the second book in this series and start the third one right after. So good! Really enjoying seeing Dina and Sean getting to know each other, and it's nice to finally see more of Dina's family.

I love Ilona Andrews! While the Innkeeper series isn't my favorite Andrews series, this did provide more of the excellent world-building I expect. Adventure, a bit of romance, aliens, and magic all appear as Dina rescues her sister and niece and comes a step closer to finding out about her parents. Four ⭐s.

My constant reading companions... Zoey and Toby love when I spend time reading in the library! Also, I'm realizing how bare that wall looks behind me... could use some bookish art I think! We went from a tiny box of a house to a Victorian with 11 foot ceilings and everything we had looks too small now. Any suggestions on where to buy cool book related prints?

Karkar Etsy has some really neat ones 7y

As a Serial read on the author's website we get to see the story unfold and wait w/baited breathe for the next installment. It's fun to see how the process works, how events or comments find their way into the book. serial reads have a risk of it feeling... off, choppy. I know I'll need to buy the book after, but that's part of the fun. How will it change, will I catch the changes? This was wonderful! The few tweaks & fixes really made the story.❤
