Solid second in the series.
Still amazed by the world and characters Brennan has created.

Book #2 in the series. Another fascinating book in the series. Lady Trent again gets herself into some unusual circumstances. Mr. Wilkers joins the expedition along with Lord Hilford‘s granddaughter, Natalie. This time to the heat of the tropics. If you enjoyed book 1, then you‘ll like this one too.
I might go back to making my fancy #BookSpinBingo grids with covers, but that's a lot of work for me (I probably do it in a stupid way) and I should stop making my hobbies into work, at least when the urge isn't striking me. So here we go!
I was already partway through a reread of Tropic of Serpents, but had been sadly neglecting it. I love this book, but Life Happened.
I had to reread this after rereading the first book for my postal mark up and I am glad I did. Such good writing, it‘s really obvious that the author is an anthro grad, the way she describes the tribes is very similar to many of the ethnographic books I read for my anthro minor. Lovely details, good world building, lots of fun. 4/5 stars. Read if you like Fantasy, Victorian fiction, and anthropology
Didn't like it as much as the first one but still a enjoyable and fun read with different creatures and gorgeous pictures
1. I chose it back when I first created a book blog back in 2012... I can't remember how it came to me!!
2. I work seasonally: springs at a greenhouse, falls at an orchard
3. My life hasn't changed much - I am still working (so is my husband), and we never really go anywhere anyway haha
4. Tagged

Thanks for the tag @SaturnDoo!!
1. So far 19. Hoping to finish the tagged book today, though!
2. Yesterday was a great day just catching up on random small projects around the house. Those are my favorite kind of day!!

I know it's already Wednesday but here is a #weeklyforecast post nonetheless!! While waiting for the next books in the Chronicles of Ixia to arrive, I'm hoping to tackle The Big Four for #agathachristieclubr2 and this month's secret #LMPBC book, which had a long and arduous journey here but did finally arrive!! Also the next two books in the Lady Trent series - started the tagged book last night, a bit slow but interesting. Not sure I am ready ⬇️
Next 📖😋
4/5⭐ Just as much fun as the first book. I like how Brennan weaves so many cultures and experiences together, including issues of colonialism.
Give me dragons any day; I understand their ways far better than those of my fellow human beings. We make our world much too complicated.
I love how MUCH goes on in these books. It's not just dragons, it's also politics and it's also relationships between people and aaahhh.
And I love the closeness between Isabella and Tom that starts to develop here and never ever becomes romantic because that's not them.
After the intense reading last night, I've mostly stuck to crafting today. This blanket is really growing!
But I did also start on Tropic of Serpents. I'm so excited for the new book in this world -- it comes out on my birthday! And I'm really enjoying my reread of the series. Natalie is pretty awesome; I'm kinda sad there's less of her in the later books.
Second installment in this delightful magical realism series. I love that these read like old scientific travel memoirs. The study of dragonology continues for Lady Trent but this one focuses just as much on the people as the creatures. The setting is Sub-Saharan in feel. A nice calm read between my usual mysteries full of murder and death.
If you like cozies or a novel of manners this would definitely be up your alley.
Day 3 of the #25infive done. Today I read 7 whole hours and finished 5 books. Currently working on The Tropic of Serpents which I just barely started.
I‘m also happy to announce that I‘m caught up and ahead of my goodreads goal finally as well!! What are you currently reading?
An escapist fictional memoir about a psuedo-Victorian naturalist studying dragons.
Not enough science.
I loved this second book in the Memoirs of Lady Trent series! The way this series blends fantasy with zoology and anthropology is exactly my brand!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a good book; it really made me want to read the next book in the series. I enjoyed that the author kept to the memoir theme while not giving away or losing track of the time line. There is an exploration of same sex relationships, the mechanisms of colonialism and a wonderful discussion about expectations of motherhood and it‘s being tied being a woman.
The second book in this series definitely does not disappoint. A ton of fun with an entirely new continent full of delightful new dragons, characters, settings and cultures. I would ideally love a giant world map of the many continents and whatnot of this world. Can't wait to get started on the third book!
So dann beginne ich mal mit dem zweiten Band.
I needed a break from all things serious so I‘m reading this now 😝📖
This series keeps getting better. I love the way its written from the view of someone looking back at their life and adventures. It allows for reflection and honesty about what she did wrong while still having the story flow well. A solid 4 out of 5 stars.
Continuing the series. It feels odd reading a book set in a humid location when it's freezing outside. I've never expected my surroundings to reflect those in what I'm reading, but for some reason it isn't feeling right for me this time.
Snow day!!! Which means I was able to finish this beauty this morning. These books are so much fun! The fictional world is growing on me and I can't wait to read the next one!
This series is absolutely charming and I must say I enjoyed this volume more then the first. I alternated between the book and the audiobook so I didn't have to stop while cleaning and cooking, I just could put it down! Isabella continues to kick ass, push boundaries, do science, and I am 100% here for it!
It dragged in places, but I am happily continuing to follow Mrs. Camhurst (because she hasn‘t become Trent yet). #readinglog #fantasy
Suddenly I'm very glad I accidentally had to turn around on my way to work and work from home because of a forgotten laptop.. I would not want to be in the middle of this.. plus, I get to listen to my audiobook in the comfort of my home office. And my flowers get a nice bath 💕⛈🌱
A rainy Sunday, a friendly companion, a book, and a cup of tea. This is my favorite kind of day.
Can't wait to finish this today! It's so boring, not continuing with this series. Such a shame as I am absolutely mad for dragons.
#BibliophileWorldMayChallenge DAY 1. May TBR - a bit ambitious for this 🐌🤓 don't cha think??
My current #library stack. Even though I'm in the midst of an epic #slump, I'm optimistic about all of these. Now where to begin... 🤔
These books are so good. Dragons, adventures, natural history. So great
Luna cleaning herself while i read.
#litsypartyofone with my bookshelf shirt. Dark chocolate covered almonds and water. Wisteria incense.
I HATE deckled edges. But I really love this series. Because dragons. #deckleedge #feistyfeb
Enjoying the second in the series.
Our power went out. Reminds me of the good ol' days as a kid. I'd read by flashlight/ streetlight. #dragons #nightreading
Since I had a dream about this book the other night I thought I should reread if. #sorryjulesverne #dragons #reread

Dafydd and I do NOT want to get up this morning. Too many good books to read, like this one!
More of the same in the first book, and my hopes for more dragons were unfortunately not met. But I still enjoyed the story, and will continue on with the series. If you like memoirs and the Victorian era, you'll enjoy this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 of 5.
"Are a woman's wishes only fit to be considered when blessed by a male relative?"
Love when I come across such an awesome quote.
Loving this series right now.
