It's Always the Husband
It's Always the Husband: A Novel | Michele Campbell
Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny first met as college roommates and soon became inseparable, despite being as different as three women can be. Kate was beautiful, wild, wealthy, and damaged. Aubrey, on financial aid, came from a broken home, and wanted more than anything to distance herself from her past. And Jenny was a striverbrillliant, ambitious, and determined to succeed. As an unlikely friendship formed, the three of them swore they would always be there for each other. But twenty years later, one of them is standing at the edge of a bridge, and someone is urging her to jump. How did it come to this? Kate married the gorgeous party boy, Aubrey married up, and Jenny married the boy next door. But how can these three women love and hate each other? Can feelings this strong lead to murder? When one of them dies under mysterious circumstances, will everyone assume, as is often the case, that its always the husband? A suspenseful, absorbing novel that examines the complexities of friendship, Its Always the Husband will keep readers guessing right up to its shocking conclusion.

This one has very mixed reviews but you know what? I really liked it. Starts as a slow burn that spends the first half setting up the three main characters‘ toxic friendship, and the second half is a murder mystery featuring all three plus some secondary characters from the first half. I had a lot of fun trying to figure it all out and I was wrong! The end completely surprised me. So, this is a pick from me!

My husband has a late meeting, my son is at the gym. I‘m trying to stay awake for just a little while longer while the pup sits here at my side.

Just started this book. I‘m hoping to finish it by the end of #FabulousFebruary readathon. @Andrew65

Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny. They first met as college roommates and soon became inseparable, even though they are as different as three women can be. Twenty years later, one of them is standing at the edge of a bridge... and someone else is urging her to jump. How did things come to this?

EadieB As the novel cuts back and forth between their college years and their adult years, you see the exact reasons why these women love and hate each other—but can feelings that strong lead to murder? Or will everyone assume, as is often the case, that it‘s always the husband? 2y
EadieB This is a psychological suspense novel. It is a twisty page thriller that kept me reading. It alternates between the time at college and the present time. The characters are not nice and you don't know if you can believe them. It's slow in the beginning but then turns quicker towards the end. I didn't really care about any of the characters and therefore didn't really enjoy the book that much. 2y
Andrew65 Always harder when you don‘t really care about any of the characters. 2y

Of course it‘s always the husband!!! 😂

This was a Mother‘s Day gift from one of my daughters. She‘s 12. My kids chose to go to the used bookstore that I love and pick 1-2 books each for me. There‘s nothing like seeing what your kids will pick for you! And this has good reviews! Excited to start this tonight ! 🤍
Happy weekend reading, my friends !

lazydaizee Your daughter chose well. My daughter always brought me horror story books from the charity shop. 3y
all_4_kb @lazydaizee awwwww that‘s so cute though 😂🤩 3y

My first book of 2021! This was a definite page turner that kept me guessing until the last page! I kept switching who I was rooting for while reading. Campbell‘s writing evokes empathy for almost every character involved, and her storyline is so well connected and thought out. 8/10

Kate is dead. Who killed her? One of her old college roommates or her husband? All had reasons to want Kate dead. Very twisty thriller where all the characters lie and keep secrets. The author casts doubt over all of them so that you keep guessing till the very end...which is when the killer is revealed.

September TBR!

I decided not to do many TBR picks because I have so much trouble adhering to set picks. I‘m just going to go by mood but I do have three set picks that I selected from a jar. The Perfect Child is not pictured (ebook). I shared more about these three picks in my most recent BookTube video! https://youtu.be/BOw_gPYK_S4

What‘s in your September TBR pile?

bromeliad Nice! I'm the same way with specific TBR lists, so I usually keep my TBR pile pretty fluid and trim it regularly. However, I do plan to spend September reading through 5y
Megabooks The Book of Essie is great! I hope you enjoy it. I don‘t make TBR pictures because I am an unapologetic mood reader! 🤣 5y

The story starts with someone taking a walk on a bridge. You soon learn that this person is being coaxed/forced to jump and a sense of foreboding fills you that something evil is going to happen. Then the real story begins. College roommates sharing a secret find themselves back together 22 years later, in the exact place where it all began and where history has now repeated. Friends turn enemies, love turns to hate and secrets turn to revenge

I think maybe the fact that I listened to this on audio maybe had an impact on how much I liked it. I found it to get overly complicated with the timeline going back and forth between present and past. I liked the story, but the writing not so much.

Thought I could listen to the audio- nope. I can‘t do mean girls and the “frenemy” thing is played out, just feeds into the BS notion that females can‘t have honest friendships. 😤

I loved this book! It was a great listen! I detest women like Kate Eastman & have no pity nor mercy for ppl that deliberately ruin themselves and those closest to them out of pure selfishness, greed, and lust. That being said it was a good thriller and it really did leave you guessing until the very end. I‘m eager to read whatever Michele Campbell writes next. It makes you question if the ppl around you are healthy for you.
