While not my favorite of hers, this was another good one by Jojo Moyes. I felt she did a good job bringing the two timelines together.

I only borrowed this because I didn‘t fancy any other audiobook.
But, Littens, I â¤ï¸ it. I wasn‘t hooked at first but latest when the lawsuit began I was reluctant to stop listening. The story brought back good memories of my own time at university and I rooted for both, Sophie and Liv. I even refreshed my knowledge about stolen goods‼ï¸
Recommend because it‘s interesting far beyond the expectable love story.
Beautiful story by one of my favorite authors.
A well written book even a war time book can make you have all the feels: mountain size heartbreak, slivers of hope, gut punching despair, fist-clenching anger, bone deep love, soul shattering longing and the list goes on. Moyes delivered all this and more.
I am not sure what I would do in a wartime like this. A part of me would hope that I would be like Sophie with her unwavering faith, grit and grace.

My #doublebookspin is done. So amazing! #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
Got this one is a #ouabc box, looking forward to it! #doublebookspin
This wasn't my favorite, by far. Though it is very beautifully written. I feel as though it's difficult to flash from one character to another, let alone in different generations. It's even harder to make it look effortless. I applaud the author for her tact in dealing with sensitive issues and I loved how she skated around certain details without being vile.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in WWI fiction
A reread, which for me is rare. But moyes does such and amazing job with historical fiction and then the court case. I felt for the main characters just as much the second time.
I can't begin to express how I feel since joining #LitsyLove pen pal group. The connection I have made and the friendships forged are beyond what I expected. I look forward to hear how their jobs are going, their family, books they have read and the small bits of life. I got teary eyes opening this package from Stacy. Thank you friend. Your package made me feels so special.
Two story lines: one in a German occupied French village during WWI and another set in modern day London. I found the WWI heroine and storyline so compelling and mostly skimmed the modern day romance/legal battle. Interesting issues regarding restitution of art. Moyes does a good job of showing how nothing is as cut and dried as one might expect. A pick simply because I thought the WWI story so good.
Definitely a new favorite of mine. I had taken a break from reading after a crazy couple of months (I‘m sure many can relate). But wow, what a way to get back into it! 100% recommend.
I read 22 Audiobooks in July so this is image 2/3 from this pile my favorite was The Girl You Left Behind - such a fantastic story set in two different timelines! #audiobooks
So JoJo is an author I‘m beginning to love more and more. I don‘t read a lot of adult but I have been more frequently. I loved this story of two women in two time periods and their lost husbands and how they connect at the end. I almost cried at the end and it truly is a well told story and I loved the audio narration. Definitely one to look into. WWI and modern day. #audiobooks

The first part is the story of Sophie Lefèvre in occupied France during the First World War, and the second part the sotry of Liv and Paul, on opposite sides in the legal struggles over Sophie's portrait, painted by her artist husband, in the 2000s.
The tension involved in Sophie's life during the first part was very well done, making it difficult to read, while the second part was a real emotional roller coaster.
First book of the year paired with Stigbergets Bryggeri - Ololeo double ipa #booksandbeers
A good poolside read! Alternates (but not too often ðŸ‘) between the German occupation in World War I France and present-day Europe. Deals with issues of art repatriations, and a touch of architecture — and as expected, some love 💕.
As you can see by all the leaves, fall is in the air! Now having to scoop a ton out daily. We‘ll have to schedule the pool closing soon 😢 but I do like fall also 🎃

This is the first book I thought of for the prompt. Upon reflection there are so many more. Such as: When Breathe Becomes Air, Out of Africa, Beaches, The Bridges of Madison County.... just to name a few.
We begin during WWI in a German-occupied town in France. Sophie, the wife of a painter, is the subject of one of his paintings that a German officer falls in love with. The story flashes forward to present day to a young widow, Liv, who owns the painting. The middle of the story drags a bit as we get to know Liv. I did love how it wrapped up in the end, though it was a tiny bit cheesy. It‘s still a pick for me as I needed something easy to read.
A historical fiction novel that connects two engaging love stories across different time periods. The book held my interest throughout with strong yet flawed characters who must make tough, morally questionable decisions.
This one got off to a really good start but then there was a clumsy, jerky character change and style that felt like a wet slap to the face. Was gutted to bail because I loved ‘Me Before You‘ but just couldn‘t push past it.
New books :) Well new to me anyhow. For successful finishing my first day at a new job what could be better. #prelovedisgoodtoo #thriftstores #bookobsessed
I considered going with Les Misérable for today‘s prompt, but it is getting enough attention from me and all the other #LesMisBuddyRead-ers at the moment. Instead, I picked these books by Jojo Moyes, both set in Paris ??
Sophie can‘t wait for the day when her love, Edouard will say “#BonjourMadame†to her again, but until then she struggles to live her life during war and danger.

Since May, I have listened to 21 novels! This piece of HF has been a favorite along with Midnight Blue! While it was slow to start, this book, caused me to look up famous works of art and even more information about German occupation during WWII. Having recently visited Paris, one of the settings in the novel and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, my appreciation for the talents of artists renewed. If you enjoy wartime novels and art, read it!â¤ï¸ðŸ“š

My library had a collection out of World War One book, and I picked this one from it. I really loved the first half, which took place in 1917. The second half started slow for me, but picked up as it focused on uncovering history.
I loved this book. It was perfect for anyone who loved The Nightingale. It had he perfect combination of past and present and romance and intrigue. The story developed so well and was beyond engrossing. I definitely recommend this one!
Jojo Moyes has now officially earned her place among my top favourite authors.
One particular quote from the book really hit me right there in the feels. One of the main female characters is asking her father why he is still so proud of her, now that she has failed and he said:
'Just for carrying on, really. Sometimes, my darling girl, that's heroic in itself'.
Thank you Ms. Moyes. Thank you.
Went to a bookstore earlier today and found these two. Now reading Angelology on the sunny balcony. What a perfect Sunday.
A WWI story is mixed with a present day story. Given that I love reading books set during the wars, and I have enjoyed the books by Jojo Moyes that I've read so far, this was a no-brainer for me today. It's on sale today for $2.99! Anyone else here who has read this?

This book was amazing! Moyes does such a wonderful job of conveying her characters' emotions and the two time periods are expertly woven together. This was a beautiful story!
Mac n' cheese. It's what's for lunch. Hoping #thegirlyouleftbehind is as good as #mebeforeyou. So far so good.
The most amazing, moving and emotional book I've read in ages 📚 loved this book so so much â¤ï¸
Starting this today after finishing 'The Child'. Love Jo Jo Moyes books 📚☺ï¸
It's a complex read. I was looking for something nice and fluffy but the beginning of the story set in France (my country) during WWI made it a bit too close for comfort and after that during the second part of the book, even if the educated reader in me thought the story should turn out better in the end I was so involved with the characters I could barely read the bad stuff happening to them. A great read but an emotional roller-coaster!
