This book took me over a year to read it but well worth it. Enjoyed the tome and all its characters.

April was an easy month as I only finished one (it was a weird life month). But even if I finished more than one, I could see this still being my favorite. Recency bias made me want to pick it over Queen Hereafter but went back to the ratings and Queen was rated higher. So here we are!

Get the hype. Wanted to read this before watching the hbo movies. I‘m glad I did because it was so good. The audiobook version was well produced. Different narrators for different characters so a little easier to follow. There were times it got to be a lot, but I imagine that will make it a more in depth movie.
Loved the first half and then I don‘t know how I finished this. I need more action and lots more science. Thank goodness I watched the movies first…how did he write this? I made it through but will rewatch the movies to see if I really now get it. 😬 We don‘t all have to love what everyone else loves!
On a whim decided to read this. I knew nothing except sci-fi and futuristic.
It was interesting and good enough I put a hold in on the second book.
The story was good, the writing good, I liked most of the characters. We shall see where the series takes us.
It really is as good as Iremember it. Along with Jules Vern or HG Wells, Frank Herbert was one of the OG authors who mashed up sci-fi and fantasy. There is so much packed into this one book: commentary on politics, commentary on society, religion, feminism, toxic masculinity (before that was even a thing), revenge, love. I feel like the grandfather at the beginning of “The Princess Bride” explaining to his grandson why this book is so exciting.
Rereading for the first time since probably high school some 30 years ago. 😳
This was really good. I was pleasantly surprised!
A modern sci-fi classic with two recent phenomenal adaptations. Largely set on the desert planet Arrakis, The Stillsuits worn by the inhabitants of Arrakis inevitably make me think of summer temperatures, made only more unbearable the past few years due to record breaking summers due to climate change.

I had fairly high expectations for a such a well-regarded sci-fi book. While I appreciated the potential of the world-building, I disliked pretty much all the characters and the plot. Also, why did most people have thematic or space-y names and the main characters were called Paul and Jessica? Paul gave off major "not like the other girls" vibes. None of his victories seemed earned. The religious context was incoherent. Not recommended.
I haven‘t read much fiction in a long, long time. I enjoyed the movies but wanted to get deeper into the lore, into the world building, so I picked up the first book in the Dune Chronicles. The cover art is beautiful.
Also I had a baby, so I haven‘t had much time to do really anything this year.
I first read Dune in high school. I remember that I enjoyed the strong female characters, the world building, and the sand worms;however, I was bored with the political and religious elements. Reading it over 40 years later, I am struck by how relevant the political and religious elements are today. I plan to read at least the next two or three in the series.
April 13 #SpringSkies OneWordTitle I found this book really long, but I am so glad i read it before i watched the movie @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Not sure if posting bookish memes is a faux pas on Litsy, but this was too good not to share
Just finished re-reading Dune… Denis Villeneuve was sooo right to make Chani a secular Third Worldist 🤞
Dune all over the place!
Re-read before going to see Dune 2. Split reading the physical copy and listening to the audio to be sure I was done before the movie. Soo much better than the first read, I was able to catch a lot more detail and the audio helped with some of the more challenging pronunciation.
The movie was great, but as always the book was better. And EVEN better the 2nd time around.
I‘m hooked all over again!

As I mentioned in my previous post I just saw Dune part 2 & IMO the 2 part adaptations are both masterpieces. Other great adaptations:
*Scorsese's adaptation of Endo's incredibly moving novel “Silence“
*The miniseries adaptation of Atwood's “Alias Grace“ directed by Mary Harron & written by Sarah Polley
*Andy Muschietti's 2 part adaptation of “IT“ (esp. chapter 2)
*Lord of The Rings
*Persepolis which Satrapi herself co-wrote & co-directed
This is hands down one of my most anticipated movies of the year. I saw it last night & boy it did not disappoint at all. It has a different feel from the first one, but I think it is every bit as good. Absolutely fantastic.
I only just found out Frank‘s son did a novel that fills the gap between Dune and Dune Messiah. Also, I booked tickets for the 2nd Villeneuve movie. Those are all the excuses I needed to re-read this masterpiece. This book is so imaginative & evocative. I love Lynch/Villeneuve‘s films but honestly, there is a beauty & depth to this novel that just can‘t exist outside of the page. The phrase is mis/over-used now, but this is proper “world-building”
So I promised my son I‘d read his beloved Dune before the 2nd movie came out in March. It‘s slow going for me, I‘m not a big sci-fi reader. Now that I‘ve finished my library book, I need to turn my attention back to it. I went out and bought my copy. I don‘t mind this movie cover at all but can always, always do without these “Dune Part 2” non-removable stickers on them. ☹️
Well, this was a pretty long book. It took me a while to figure out what was happening, but once i got into it, it was good. There is a lot of layers in this book. Now, to watch the movie. It was Chunkster #ChunksterChallenge2023 with 875 pages on Libby. @Amiable It gave me one more spot on #NovemberISpyBingo @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks plus #RushAthon @DieAReader @Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES
I'm a bit late for October's #TitlesAndTunes but still just under the wire for the #Blues tag ☺️ @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen
I had loads I thought I could do for this, and in the end went for two classics: Frank's "Dune", and The Velvet's "Pale Blue Eyes" ?
Emergency vet waiting / reading. 😕

I spent the afternoon helping my son and his partner pick up this little guy from a rescue centre, bringing him home to his forever seitch.
His previous name was based on his fur colour, and while not the very worst it could have been, was inappropriate enough to require a re-naming. So, welcome Leto to #CatsOfLitsy 🐈⬛😻
⭐️⭐️
It took me several months to get through this monster of a book, and despite it being a classic, I struggled to get through it. The world-building and plot was difficult to grasp, and a lot of the book was simply boring. There were certain moments that kept me entertained, but most of my reading consisted of trying to understand the abundance of confusing terminology and what was actually happening in the book.
#thingsincommon - I wasn‘t sure how I was going to connect these 2, but then I put them side by side and the cover coloring is SO similar! So cover color on goodreads
I‘ve been wanting to read Dune for a while now. I watched the new movie (never seen any of the old) and it gave me the courage to read this. I understood the world and story a bit. Normally, I would never watch a movie before the book but it helped here.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. I will provide no description and no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, and some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

I really enjoyed Dune. A true classic that I have finally crossed off my TBR. The world building is incredible. I very much enjoyed Paul's story and his growth into Muad-Dib. There are many more memorable characters and scenes. And sandworms! The first 100 pages might be slow, but they are very important to the rest of the book. I The appendices are very helpful.
I am looking forward to seeing the new movies and reading the rest of the series.
