This was so ok. I didnt realize it was a book of short stories until I started. I don‘t prefer short stories. I also always think I like Hemingway a lot more than I actually do. The first story (the snows of Kilimanjaro) and the last (the short happy life of Francis Macomber) were the only ones I actually enjoyed. They were overly violent and war obsessed tales with terribly simple dialogue that totally bored me.

#QuotsyFeb19 Day 4: Because #quarrel corrodes the spirit, especially when done 24/7. Haven‘t read Hemingway‘s short stories yet. Maybe next year (or the year after that hehe).

I just saw I reached Mt. Kilimanjaro for #MountTBR - whoo hoo🙌🏻 I‘m aiming for Everest, & I can still make it. But August & September have been slow for me. Time to get in gear.
I need a readathon, I think 🤔📚

Finished this #shortstory collection over some #coffee on a slow #Saturday #morning. Thanks for sending it, @Magpiegem

I know #Hemingway isn‘t for everyone, but I really enjoy his writing. It was nice to spend some time with him again.

(BTW, I can tell you how to get a set of those awesome woven coasters AND support a great cause at the same time!)

Magpiegem 😊😊 I‘m really glad you enjoyed it! One ticked off your TBR! Xxx 6y

Most of my MountTBR selections are doing double duty for other challenges. Although I know I‘ll read others too, as my shelves and Kindle are bursting, I tend to pick by mood rather than planning it all out. #MountTBRChallenge @DivaDiane

DivaDiane Nice to see poetry on your list! 6y
Lcsmcat @DivaDiane I read poetry anyway, but there‘s also a poetry challenge for 2018 hosted by @Natasha.C.Barnes if you want to join in. 6y

Well, it's Hemingway. There is some lovely language in this, some beautiful moments. Downbeat at moments, but with joy in some simple things. I found it a calming read - something about the rhythm of the language, I suppose.

Day 2: title story from Hemingway's Snows of Kilimanjaro. I bogarted this copy ($1.25) from my father in the late 80s when I supplemented my college studies with attempting to become a Hemingway completist, which is one of the only things my father and I have in common. #shortstorymonth #papa

LazyOwl Thanks 😄 7y

Hemingway once said "There is no friend as loyal as a book" which I believe is why I find myself in the current situation because I never let a book go.

I did it. I joined #MountTBR on Goodreads and I'm shooting for Kilimanjaro. Who else is doing this? 🏔🏔🏔

BookishFeminist This is a thing?! I feel like I should join just because of the sheer number of books I have yet to read that I own. 7y
brilliantglow I am! I signed up for mount blanc because I wasn't sure what I'd decide to set my reading goal at. But I already know I'm going to exceed it so Kilimanjaro is likely where I'll actually end up. 7y
Melkyl I have to check this out! 7y

jessberk13 After reorganizing my shelves today, I've decided that I'm going to try for Mt. Ararat (at least) and then hopefully Kilimanjaro! 7y
Alfoster I actually just joined the Goodreads challenge today since so many of you do! I set my goal for 100 books so we'll see! Still trying to navigate through it (remember I'm a techno-phobe and need lots of help!😝😝😝) 7y
8little_paws I'm essentially doing this via a few book challenges. I want to read at least 75 from my shelves. 7y
Emily92Bibliophile Just signed up! Aiming for Mt Everest but if not El Torro will suffice😊 7y
elkeOriginal @jessica @LeahBergen I look forward to our party atop Kilimanjaro at year-end! 7y
vivastory I should sign up for mt Vancouver . At least 24 of them would be books I own I'm going to read for litsyAtoZ. I'm sure I'll be reading at least 12 more throughout the year. 7y
DGRachel I'm setting myself up for success by aiming for Mt Blanc - that's 1/2 of my total Goodreads goal, which I think is reasonable. 🤓 7y
Reagan This is amazing! 7y
Godmotherx5 I started small with Mount Blanc. 7y
BookBabe 😊👍🏻🗻 7y
WanderingBookaneer I'm going all out: Mt. Olympus! 7y
mrp27 Ohhhh... I like this challenge. Wish I had seeing it earlier but maybe I can squeeze it in. 7y

Lacythebookworm I'm climbing Mt. Arafat! 48 books. Hopefully I'll go higher 🙌 7y
ErinC So smart. You convinced me. Most of my #LitsyAtoZ books were already on my TBR so this is the perfect challenge for me. I just joined Mt Blanc! 7y
BostonBookAddict I just signed up!! Aiming for Kilimanjaro! 7y

prowlix I didn't know this is a thing but I'm definitely in! I'm trying really hard to read my own books this year 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'm assuming by TBR, it means actually sitting on my shelf or devises already bought and waiting TBR, not my wishlist TBR where I dump anything that sounds good on a list...LOL!! But yes, this sounds like a challenge I need to do to clean out my shelves!!! 7y
drbethandherkindle This sounds great! I'm going to join you on #MountTBR 7y
Smangela Thanks for sharing! I'm joining too! I NEED to read the books I already own especially since more are coming with my BOTM membership lol 7y
Amiable I climbed Mount TBR on Goodreads in 2016--it definitely helped me chip away at the stacks and piles of books around my house! It forced me to be more conscious of all the times that I get distracted by the shiny new books, even though I have literally hundreds already sitting around waiting for me to pick them up. I made it to my goal of Mount Ararat (48) and then kept going part of the way up Kilimanjaro (got to 55). I'm climbing again in 2017! 7y
Karen3 I just joined right now. Climbing Kilimanjaro as well! 7y
pppooraikul Sounds interesting! I've never seen it on goodreads before. Thanks for sharing. ☺️ Normally I set my goal to 50 books but I guess this year I'll try to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with you guys! (edited) 7y
pppooraikul Or maybe I should start for Mt. Ararat. 😂 7y
Bookchipmunk I am! I started at Mount Blanc but hope that I can go higher since I had 60 physical and 39 digital unread books on January 1 🤓 7y

LeahBergen @Karkar It is, isn't it? 😃 7y
LeahBergen @prowlix Yes!! 👏🏻👏🏻 (and me, too! All the Litsy photo challenges made me realize just how many good UNREAD books I own) 7y
LeahBergen @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes. I believe the "rules" are that it must have been bought by you before Jan 1st (cuz I checked! ?) 7y
LeahBergen @drbethandherkindle Yay!! 👏🏻👏🏻 7y
LeahBergen @Smangela Yes!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7y
LeahBergen @Amiable That's awesome! I'm really hoping to make a dent in mine (but I'll probably buy twice that amount over the course of the year 😂) 7y
LeahBergen @Karen3 Yay!! You're joining our Kilimanjaro party (see above 😂) 7y
LeahBergen @pppooraikul Yay!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7y
LeahBergen @Bookchipmunk Awesome! 👏🏻👏🏻 7y
LibrarianRyan So you had me intrigued. I checked this out. What I don't like is the "no library books#. My TBR pile has like 4000 books on it. But I wonky own the books I bought since I switched jobs. When I was still a library director I only allowed myself to buy books my library didn't and when I was done they went on the library shelf. If I could count library books I could hit mars. I guess I'll just stick to #beat the Backlog. It only has 11 parts ? 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @LeahBergen I went and read the whole thing after this, joined, and aimed at Mt Ararat, which for me is about 1/2 the number I challenged myself to in my reading goal. 👍 7y
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen @Amiable That's my problem--I keep buying! 😂 7y
rubyslippersreads @LibrarianRyan I agree with you about no library books--I always think of my Mount TBR as consisting of anything I want to read, no matter how acquired. 😊 7y
LibrarianRyan Okay. U have me talked into it. I'm going to try for Vancouver. How do I declare that. 7y
mrp27 @LeahBergen Think I will! I went through my challenges and I can definitely combine this with the read harder challenge 7y
Amiable @rubyslippersreads @LibrarianRyan There are a ton of reading challenges out there that are "read books from your list of books you want to read." Which would include library books. But that's not the point of this challenge. The Mount TBR Challenge is specifically intended to help you clear your shelves of books you already own. That's the sole purpose of it. 7y
rubyslippersreads @Amiable @LibrarianRyan I hope that doesn't mean we have to get rid of the books after we read them. 🙀 Although I guess that wouldn't be a completely bad thing, to make room for new acquisitions. 😺 7y
LibrarianRyan @rubyslippersreads I keep very few of the books I read when I'm done. I either put them on a library self if I know they are needed, or I send them to the Salvation Army after school/summer program I only keep ones I would read again. Used to get laughed at for being a librarian with no books on her shelf at home. 7y
LeahBergen @LibrarianRyan Oh, I'm glad you joined. Yeah, the whole "no library books" things WOULD be hard for librarians like you! ? 7y
LeahBergen @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Woo hoo! 👏🏻 7y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads That would be a "nope" for me. Like you, I COLLECT books. Mind you, I have no problem getting rid of thrillers or current fiction that I won't read again. BUT NOT OUR PRETTY BOOKS, RIGHT?! ? 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @LibrarianRyan I declared it on here, and then went and joined the Goodreads group "Mount TBR" and joined there as well. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @LeahBergen That sounds like me too...I have some I'll pick up at the library sale, read and then donate back a sale or two later. And then there are some I hunt out (in hardcover if I can find it) for my collection. 7y
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen Absolutely not! Each pretty book is "my precioussssss." ? (edited) 7y

Actually, my #2017MostAnticipatedReads are already on my TBR shelves glaring at me for neglecting them.
A little while ago, @kmdartist made the excellent point that all of these photo challenges just make it obvious what we already have and need to read. Agreed!
Then @Well-ReadNeck linked to a Goodreads challenge made just for this: Mount TBR. While not one for challenges, this spoke to me & my TBR cheered.
So I am going for Kilimanjaro. 🏔📚🏔📚

Putting together 2017 reading challenges as I try and get as many 2016 books in as possible! I didn't reach my goal of 52 books--currently at 40. I had a pretty long reading slump this fall.
