I LOVED this book. An awkward and lonely teenager stops to help an older blind woman one day and his life, purpose, self-understanding, and confidence are all changed in the journey that ensues. This book is heartwarming, unexpectedly deep, heart-wrenching, and charming. Highly recommend for an easy, fast, enjoyable read.
This is a amazing story about a kind teenager Raymond and his friendship with his elderly blind neighbor Millie. Millie lives in his building and asks him if he has seen a man Luis Velez that helps her and the story goes from there. This was a moving story of friendship, compassion, and empathy!
Highly recommend
I loved this book. It sounds like a formulaic friendship between the young and old. It is. A little. But there‘s so much more to it. I want to say “sweet” but that belittles it. It‘s a bigger story. ❤️❤️❤️

This is a heartwarming story about a young man who befriends an elderly woman. He goes to great lengths to help her, and ends up meeting several wonderful people and finding out a lot about himself along the way.

It‘s a uplifting story of friendship between a 17 year old Raymond n 90 year old Mrs G, how they help each other, & make peace with life. The story delicately portrays several aspects of racism, law enforcement and even the WW II related genocide. However the centre pillar of the story stands on empathy n kindness. A slow paced , peaceful read much appropriate for 2020. Glad I picked this for #overbookedclub 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

In such stress times with our world being so troubled, here is a story that endures trouble, despair and yet through kindness and gratitude finds ways to navigate through the rough waters of darkness. Loved it and this kind of story is needed right now.
This was not high on my radar- but was picked for a buddy read. It was on my kindle so easily read when I let the dog out at 3 am. But I could not stop reading it. And now it is finished. It was almost too good at times, and sharing too many messages. But they were clearly the messages I needed to know others care about too. And I really need things to be too good sometimes. So I loved this. I‘m very grateful the #overbooked group chose it.
This quote suddenly made sense for all the anger I‘m feeling at a man who doesn‘t care about children separated from their parents, and 200,000 people already dead in a pandemic and a senate that cares only about controlling woman‘s bodies and nothing about life itself.

A real feel good book. Even though bad things happen the underlying theme is hope, happiness, kindness and that friendships are universal.

It isn't often that I pry myself away from a book in an attempt to get some sleep already, and yet fail to fall asleep because I keep thinking PLEASE MAKE THIS BOOK A BESTSELLER, GOD, PLEASEEEEE: http://bit.ly/2FdICDn
This book!! This is exactly my type of book. Sucked me right in and hit me in the feels! I read it in just a few hours and didn‘t want to put it down. It is just perfect. I had not read anything by this author before, but I think I need to read more! I see she writes YA books as well, and I think this book could definitely appeal to a YA audience as well.
This book begins with a teenage boy starts helping an older woman who is looking for her last caregiver Luis Velez who has not showed up in a while. This story starts simplistically with Raymond on a mission and it metamorphoses into a very timely story that takes on Race and our legal system. This was an excellent read. This is my first book from Hyde that I have read, but look forward to reading more.
Mornings on Maui are idyllic.
Have You Seen Luis Velez? by the incomparable Catherine Ryan Hyde, is a perfect choice to read in the land of aloha with a view of Moloka'i (especially if you know that island's history). She writes so beautifully about the human spirit with such seeming ease and compassion. She's one of my all-time favorite authors.
