2001: A Space Odyssey | Arthur C. Clarke
On the moon an enigma is uncovered. So great are the implications that, for the first time, men are sent out deep into the solar system. But, before they can reach their destination, things begin to go wrong, horribly wrong...

Deliberate error was unthinkable. Even the concealment of truth filled him with a sense of imperfection, of wrongness--of what, in a human being, would have been called guilt. For like his makers, Hal had been created innocent; but, all too soon, a snake had entered his electronic Eden.

While I was enjoying the Fiction Readers Summit, my fellow littens were filling my mailbox with #ListyLove. I did make time to buy this cute coffee cup stamp & ink as well as these beautiful washi tape rolls to decorate my replies. Tagged book is one mentioned in one of my letters. #frs

Princess-Kingofkings @catiewithac I've been looking for a small coffee stamp ~ found this one at Hobby Lobby. ☕️ (edited) 6mo

#BookMail Pt6 I‘m obsessed with these special editions of SciFi classics. All come with a foreword by Neil Gaiman & look spectacular. My only tiny gripe is the way the writing on the spine is back to front. I now have Neuromancer, Dune, 2001 & on order is Stranger In A Strange Land & The Left Hand Of Darkness. The only one to get now is The Once And Future King. Does anybody else feel compelled to get all the books in a special edition series?

DuckOfDoom I have completed this series a month ago, but still have to read stranger in a strange land. They look so pretty and I can afford the whole series because it's 'just' 6 books. I also collect the 10th anniversary editions by gollancz, but I am way behind the releases. 9mo
BarbaraBB I‘d go crazy with those spines 😲😉 9mo
JazzFeathers 😲😲😲😲💙💙💙💙 9mo
Lizpixie @DuckOfDoom I‘d check out the gollancz editions but I have enough obsessions!🙅🏻‍♀️This series is wonderful though, the stories are all true classics & only 6 instead of 20-30 to get. Better for the bank balance💸 @BarbaraBB I‘m trying to figure out a way of displaying them so it‘s not so noticeable🤔 @JazzFeathers have you seen the rest? 💚🧡💙🖤❤️💛 9mo
JazzFeathers @Lizpixie No, but l'm going to look them up! 9mo

Naturally a Clarke written book adaptation of seminal film is gonna be pretty good. Unfortunately, because ideas from the book/movie have been stolen so many times, it‘s getting difficult to be blown away by the original work. Maybe because I‘ve seen the film or because I‘ve seen countless films inspired by 2001, I wasn‘t completely amazed by the book. That‘s quite a shame because this story is still the strongest.

1. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne and 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke
2. I love the feel and look and hardcover, but paperbacks are cheaper, but either way I prefer a physical copy, nothing against e-readers though. 😅
3. The Great Gatsby 😪😪 just couldn't do it.

I. ADORE. THIS. BOOK.

I didn‘t expect to like it as much as I did. Came in with low expectations since I had already seen the movie and enjoyed it...fell asleep to it...thought it was weird...as ya do.

However, I literally just finished it and I already want to read it again. I may have a new favorite book.

The book and the film were done concurrently; Clarke would watch some of the dailies each day and go back and tweak the book, which was only two-thirds done when shooting started.

This book is a TRIP! Wrap your mind around the fact that he wrote this BEFORE we even landed on the moon! This is brilliant sci-fi! I'm going to admit that my eyes glazed over in a few places ("Put more science stuff around and increase the Flash Gordon noise!" -MST3K...?) but this book deserves its spot on the 1,001 list. Plus, I really appreciated the Barsoom reference! 118/1,001 #1001Books

1. The Penguin Galaxy Books look fantastic
2. They smell really nice
3. The review: first time reading this, I never watched the movie. I knew about HAL, but not much else. I like how the story is told, the monolith discovery etc. The ending surprised me a bit, I somehow thought the AI would take up a larger role.
