The Curse of the Spellmans
The Curse of the Spellmans | Lisa Lutz
31 posts | 60 read | 20 to read
When private investigator Izzy Spellman is arrested for the fourth time in three months, she writes it off as an occupational hazard. She's been keeping surveillance on her new next-door neighbour (yes, he's her ex-boyfriend and yes, she's tried to break into his home several times), convinced he's up to no good - even if Spellman Investigations management (Izzy's parents) disagree. When the (displeased) management refuse to bail her out, it's Morty, Izzy's octogenarian lawyer, who comes to her rescue. But before he can build a defence, he has to know the facts. Over weak coffee and pastrami sandwiches, Izzy unveils the whole truth and nothing but the truth - as only she, a licensed 30-year-old professional, can.

Such a fun read. Love the interactions between all of the characters. My favorite read last week.

Now that I‘m used to how these are structured, I flew through this second instalment. Lutz is hilarious, I love the snark and the completely dysfunctional family dynamic!

Suzze One of my all-time favorite series. I cried when she stopped writing them. 2y
janeycanuck @Suzze I‘m almost afraid to ask… Did she just stop writing them or did she wrap the series up? 2y
Suzze @janeycanuck Sorry it took me so long! Both kinda. Her last Spellman felt like it was wrapping up, I think she felt it coming. 2y

I enjoyed this second Spellman book as much as the first. The relationships and interactions between the characters are what these books are built on. If you liked the first, I recommend reading this one.

November #TBRtarot

CBee I‘ve heard this series is good! 2y

It‘s almost time for the fabulous 9 day monthly readathon hosted by @Andrew65
The tagged book is my November #TBRTarot read (sticker on the book). I‘m hoping to finish 9 books (2 will be in progress at the start) during the readathon.

Andrew65 Some great books. I love Mary Kubrick, and also read Distant Shores earlier this year. Good luck. 😁 2y

108/150 Its been several years since I read The Spellman Files, but it took no time to fall right back into the groove with this wacky family. Sure there's mysteries to be solved, but the point is the interaction between Isabella and her family. It's funny, its poignant and even a sweet romance.

1. I don't reread books very often, too many new books need my attention to go back to something I've already finished. I'm the oddball out for most Littens.
2. Dysfunctional Family of Detectives
Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView #Two4Tuesday

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.
Day 221

Books in a series are posted together instead of an individual post for each.

I was able to do two things today — yoga and walk. It‘s been more than a month since I‘ve been up to any kind of exercise, so I was thrilled. I was going to listen to The Curse of the Spellmans on my walk, but I had to wait for it to download. Instead, I listened to early Rodney Crowell.

wanderinglynn Yay! That‘s awesome! I love yoga.🧘🏼‍♀️ 4y

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this second book in the Spellman series. It is chaotic and scattered and best read after the first book. If you loved the first book, you‘ll like this one. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2020/02/review-curse-of-spellmans-by-lisa-lutz....

This is book 2 in the Spellmans series. It‘s been so long since I read the first one that I forgot how eccentric the family is. The Spellmans have boundary issues and use all of their PI skills to keep tabs on each other, while working their paying jobs. These are fun books. They are less about the mystery and more about the characters. #L #LitsyAtoZ #Booked2019 #FemaleDetective #readingwomenchallenge #anybookfromaseries

Sresendez12 I may have to use this for my #femaledetective book! It‘s been forever since I read the first one that I‘d almost forgotten about this series! 6y
Bookzombie @Sresendez12 I kind of did the same thing. I‘m planning on reading the rest of them this year. I have the third one on deck to read shortly. 6y

I need something fun to read, so, of course, Lisa Lutz was pull off my TBR shelf.

KateFulfordAuthor If you need another recommendation, may I point you to my People‘s Book Prize nominated debut? Sassy female narrative, laugh out dialogue and a pacy plot. Check the link in the bio for 2 free chapters, reviews and more. 7y

So here I am having a pretty good time reading this series... It's cute, funny, snarky. Then the characters start watching Doctor Who (the new series) and making comments on the episodes, and now I'm having THE BEST TIME EVER! HECK YEAH! No one I know watches Doctor Who (I tried to make my husband watch it, but he didn't go past the Christopher Ecclestone series), so now I feel like Izzy and I really are best friends. #doctorwho

Another funny episode in the lives of the Spellmans. This book cracked me up, I like these better in print than ebook because the footnotes add so much to the book and they're a pain to deal with on my kindle.

#dysfunctionalfamily The Spellmans - I'm loving book 2 so far and they are the definition of dysfunctional and hilarious!! #photoadaynov16 #dysfunctionalfamilies

Well-ReadNeck Oooh, good pick! 8y
Suzze Oh, I picked The Spellmans too! How are the footnotes in the ebook? I always read the physical book because I was worried they wouldn't end up on the right page, and they are such a great part of the books. 8y
Lauren_reading @Suzze the footnotes are a pain in ebook form! (I forgot that when I downloaded this for our trip) I have been going back and forth since they're all at the end of the chapter. Never again - I love the footnotes and I'll read the rest in physical book form. 8y
Suzze @LaurenReads Just what I worried about. So glad I read the "real" books. 8y

I can't believe I fell for the same Spellman shtick a second time! I giggled all the way through this lighter-than-well-whipped-mousse silliness and I'm rooting for Isabel and Henry to find each other through the madness.

Fluffy fun.

Nuwanda I think I need to read these books! Am I at all right in thinking they have some elements in common with the Stephanie Plum books? 8y
GuiltyFeat @Nuwanda I've never the Plum books, I'm sorry to say. I usually prefer my detective stories a little more hard boiled but the first two in this series have been irresistibly hilarious. 8y
Christy2318 I love the Spellmans. @Nuwanda I think if you like Plum you would like these. 8y
Nuwanda @GuiltyFeat @Christy2318 Thanks! I got a sample of the first one for my Kindle! 8y
