Great British Bake Off: How to Bake
Great British Bake Off: How to Bake: The Perfect Victoria Sponge and Other Baking Secrets | Love Productions
15 posts | 2 read | 7 to read
This delightful cookbook takes you through the baking challenges from the second series of the Great British Bake Off and shows you how to achieve baking perfection. Throughout the book, Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood are on hand with practical tips to help you bake perfect cakes, biscuits, breads, pastries, pies and teatime treats every time, as well as showing you how to tackle their 'technical challenges', as seen on the show. There are more than 120 baking recipes in this book, including traditional British bakes and imaginative twists using classic ingredients, as well as the best contestant recipes from the series. There is plenty to challenge keen bakers here, from brandy snaps to elaborate pastries, pavlovas to iced celebration cakes, and with a sensuous and yet practical design and full-colour, step-by-step photography, this really will become the baking book that you will turn to for years to come.

It‘s my one year anniversary of becoming a librarian! (If you want to see some of my adventures pop over to Instagram and follow #ethelthelibraryvan) I‘ve become one with my coworkers. The best proof is this book I had on hold marked with helpful suggestions as to what I should bake next!❤️❤️❤️

I've recently discovered The Great British Baking Show, and it's probably the worst thing I could have done! I'm absolutely obsessed, and it's all I want to do. Responsibilities and reading be damned!

Anyone else a fan?

LiteraryinPA Fan is perhaps an understatement. My boyfriend and sisters and I are obsessed!! @wanderer15 @BennettBookworm 6y
madamereadsalot1 @LiteraryinLititz I'm not much of a TV watcher, and when I do, it tends to be spooky shows. So I had absolutely no idea I'd become so hooked on this one! I'm an absolute addict! 😆 It's good to know that I'm in good company with my obsession! Lol! 6y
gradcat Omigod! I just finished watching the latest season last night on Netflix—I LOVE IT! One problem—I‘m ALWAYS so hungry when I watch it, but nothing in my kitchen seems to satisfy me...I wonder why....😊😊😊 6y

madamereadsalot1 @gradcat I know! Same for me! I had cheese and crackers for a snack tonight while watching an episode on bread, and it was very disappointing. 😂 6y
CaliforniaCay Me too! I'm not much of a cook myself but my friends turned me on to this show last week and I got so into it, I've already watched every episode 😭 6y
madamereadsalot1 @CaliforniaCay I started it a couple of weeks ago, and watch it when I can. but yesterday I finally had a day to myself and I maybe spent 8 hours straight watching it. 😅😬 6y
CaliforniaCay That sounds about right haha. I'm actually going back and rewatching some of the episodes because I would put it on as background noise while I slept. It's an oddly soothing show to fall asleep and wake up to 😴 6y

Does anyone else love this show? I recently discovered it and I know I am late to the game on it. It's amazing! It's a nice reality competition! British baking is so much different than American baking too. The flavors are so much different but the baking is so spectacular too!!! I'm trying to catch up on the older seasons even though they are out of order for the US.

Bambolina_81 I used to know Paul Hollywood about 15yrs ago when he was a regular baker 😊 7y
DGRachel Yes! I just discovered this show on Netflix and binge watched all the available seasons and have been watching the most current season on PBS. 7y
BostonBookAddict @Bambolina_81 really? That's impressive. Is he nice? I don't know much about him or Mary except they seem highly regarded (and intimidating) 7y

BostonBookAddict @DGRachel me too!! It's so good. I almost bought the cookbook. I am sure I will soon enough lol I think Mel and Sue are my favorite part though :-) 7y
erzascarletbookgasm I've only watched the first season :) 7y
DGRachel I love Mel & Sue so much!! 7y
BostonBookAddict @erzascarletbookgasm I just finished the first one Netflix too (which I think was really season 5?) It was really good! 7y

drokka The fourth season is currently on PBS 7y
lynneamch Have to say this season's bakers don't seem to be as adept as in previous ones, but still a great show! Just love the artist renditions of the bakes. 7y
DGRachel @shanebeth Thanks for that! I'm on episode 5 of 6 of this season. 😊 7y
DGRachel @lynneamch Yes, the artist renderings are gorgeous! 7y

It's been crazy lately, but I'm about to get a four day weekend with friends, so I made them macarons. My first attempt! And they came out mostly ok! I think Mary Berry would be proud.

Paul would just silently stare at me, but Mary would applaud the effort, at least. Not bad at all for a first try.

SaraFair I am excited too. Enjoy it, cause it's the last one with all our favorites in it. Mary and the two funny girls quit the show 😭 8y
ruthemmielang @SaraFair I know...it's really sad...😢 8y
Dolly I found it interesting when (here in) the US did a version they made it cutthroat and it was not so well liked. Congrats to the Brits who got it right. 8y
ruthemmielang @Dolly I totally agree! 8y
MonikaS Love that show!!!! 8y
ruthemmielang @MonikaS Me too! For some reason though, it didn't air when it was supposed to...🙁 8y
elliemcc11 Mary will be hosting a replacement show on BBC. Bake Off is heading to a different channel with different hosts and it just won't be the same 😣 8y

Him: I found out something today. You know the drawer under the oven that we keep pots and pans in? It's not for pots and pans. You put...

Me: Wait - THAT'S the MF-ing proving drawer?!?!?

Happy Pi(e) Day, y'all!

Or: What happens when Sara pretends she's doing a Great British Bake Off technical challenge without a recipe!

I call it Paleo Bacon Zucchini Pie Tart Thingy! (The Male Judge does not approve, but I'm serving it with wine, so I hope I'll get Mary's vote.)

#marchintoreading This post has nothing to do with books!

merelybookish I love the GBBO so much!! 8y
saresmoore @merelybookish It's the best! 8y
lynneamch Cooking shows are just about the only TV my hubs and I like to watch together (plus singing competitions & Jeopardy). GBBO was super fun. Curious about the new hosts. We've recently been watching Paul & Mary's Masterclasses. 8y

LauraBeth Wine and bacon for the win 😀 8y
saresmoore @lynneamch Same for my husband & me, although we also watch some cult British comedy and Portlandia occasionally. :) I'm so disappointed about the show restructuring for GBBO. I love Mel & Sue! 8y
saresmoore @LauraBeth It was a crowd pleaser! Although, the girls opted for grapefruit juice instead of wine. 🙃 8y
RealLifeReading I love the GBBO!! And that no recipe pie looks awesome! 8y

saresmoore @AlaMich I'm not exaggerating when I say it changed my life—I was going through a really rough season when I discovered it and it was such a source of peace and happiness to watch the camaraderie of those gentle bakers. Not to mention Mel & Sue! 💜 8y

Came home from a rough day to dinner and a clean apartment! ❤️ At-home Chipotle and Apple Ale with an episode of GBBO - yes, please!

britt_brooke Yum! Also, I miss New Glarus! 😭 8y
stargazerblue49 @britt_brooke I have to smuggle them across the border right now, but in a couple of months that will no longer be necessary! I don't usually drink beer, but their apple ale is tasty! 8y
britt_brooke @stargazerblue49 Spotted Cow is probably my favorite beer of all time (we used to live in WI). Are they expanding? 8y

stargazerblue49 @britt_brooke Not expanding - I am transitioning to my primary residency site at the end of May and it's in a town that's only a few minutes from the New Glarus brewery! 8y

Despite living above a music producer (a new and innovative way to torture an introvert), I'm rocking my party with some crochet, #gbbo, dorky arch support socks and my favorite pair of perfectly worn-in jeans (my version of pjs). Reading later, when the drum machine stops!! How's everyone else's going? #LitsyPartyOfOne

Mccall0113 I crochet too! 8y
