After absolutely loving Marshall‘s newest two books for adults, I was really excited to dive into this audiobook for young adults. Unfortunately, it doesn‘t even feel like it‘s written by the same author! Maybe it‘s the mixed media format that just doesn‘t translate well to audio here, but this felt garbled & downright confusing. Too many characters exist for the sole purpose of being killed off & the premise fails to come together by the end.

This book started strong and had potential. Then it fizzled out and it was like the whole goal was just to confuse the reader. ⭐️⭐️

Darker and creepier than I had expected!👏🏻 I see why this one gets such good reviews. What a whirlwind of events!

New theory: young adult horror delivers the right amount of thrills and chills, without haunting my subconscious after reading. I loved the mixed media aspect. I very much appreciate that as much as the characters were developed and relationships were navigated, we skipped the teen angst and got right down to a harrowing journey, with just enough wrapped up at the end. I would love to see Ashford and Abby again in a series. Great rep as well!

Spooky, action packed, keeps you guessing and wondering and trying to figure it out.

This is a hard book to review. I loved some of the creative aspects to the story and there is some truly creepy supernatural horror here. The characters weren‘t well done though and some plot points were sloppy. I enjoyed reading it, but it‘s ultimately forgettable.

Interesting premise, had me hooked but all in all, I just felt like towards the end, it went all over the place. Entertaining, but I wasn‘t wowed

Halfway through, and soooooo many questions

Another creepy, unusual, compelling story for October that I really enjoyed. This one really was hard to put down because I wanted to know what was going on. So much is confusing or kinda "down the rabbit hole" if you don't pay attention,, but that's what kept me reading. I wasn't really expecting the the ending either.

Only a So-So for me (I just couldn't connect)...but it could be Pick for others. Could be a perfect pick for a Halloween read. Features ghostly legends, and mysterious disappearances. Told in a faux-documentary style.

I dont know how I feel about it. But it was my first thriller/horror genre at all, and I dont want to read more horror genre at all, to scary for me, or a least no story with ghost 🙅🏾‍♀️

I've got a great stack of books in my room, more in my office, and all the time in the world to read for the next five weeks. Sounds great, right? DEPRESSION SNEAK ATTACK! Suddenly, even picking up a book feels next to impossible. Not really sure how to proceed here. Anyone have any advice for reading while depressed?

I fucking loved this book! Like, I have been in such a rut for the last year when it comes to what I‘ve been reading; this, I could not put down and did not have to talk myself into continuing. It was creepy and thrilling and just the right amount of loose ends to make me absolutely voracious for more. If you love a good ghost story, pick this book.

One of my favorite thrillers (let alone YA thriller) of the season! I was so surprised and creeped out by this book. Perfect for someone who doesn‘t love horror but likes to be creeped out!

My copy had a printing error where an entire signature was stitched in upside-down, but it was at such an intense and twisty moment that my heart stopped and I didn‘t know if it was intentional or not.

I devoured this in one sitting & let my bath get cold because I didn‘t want to get out until I was done.

Doesn‘t this sound like the perfect read for Halloween?

This is between a pick and a so-so for me. I was hooked almost from the beginning. I couldn‘t turn the pages fast enough. It was a creepy read perfect to for this month. But when I finished it I felt like it was missing something. I felt like it was going to have a different ending. But overall it was a good read! This is my 4th completed book in the #24b4monday readathon!

Very interesting....

This was really easy to read and a lot of the imagery was quite creepy for a YA. Enjoyed it a lot and definitely want to read more from this author in the future.

Rules for Vanishing is the perfect fall read to get you in the mood for Halloween. It follows Sara and her group of friends as they enter the Briar Cliff forest in search of Sara‘s missing sister, Becca. The fictional legend of Lucy Gallows plays a big part in the book, adding to the creep factor. I loved this YA book and hope you will, too!

A unique YA horror, mystery, thriller mash-up that sucked me in, but the story quickly became confusing. I enjoyed the flowing and atmospheric writing style but the book felt too long. If the pace and rhythm of the first 40 pages stayed consistent through the entire book, it could have earned 5 stars easily. The discombobulated and hard to follow timeline was a major flaw.

I read this book in a day. It was creepy and suspenseful and mysterious and I couldn‘t put it down. I was so excited to get this advanced copy and it did not disappoint. A group of teens go into the woods to search for their lost friend based on a ghost story. When they enter the woods, the rules they need to follow become harder and harder and scarier as they progress. Awesome story.
