Murder on the Ballarat Train: Miss Phryne Fisher Investigates
Murder on the Ballarat Train: Miss Phryne Fisher Investigates | Kerry Greenwood
Another runaway adventure with glamorous heroine Phryne Fisher! When Phryne Fisher arranges to go to Ballarat for a week, she eschews the excitement of her Hispano-Suiza for the sedate safety of the train. But as the passengers sleep, they are all overcome by chloroform poisoning. In the morning Phryne is left to piece together all the clues: a young girl suffering from amnesia, the body of an old woman missing her emerald rings and rumours of white slavery and black magic... the last thing Phryne was expecting of this train journey was that she will have to use her trusty Beretta .32 to save lives!

First book finished for #fourfoursin22 - Australia @Lauredhel

Another great Miss Fisher! I'm really enjoying getting to know the book version of the characters, as I know the show very well. I'll definitely be continuing the series.

Lauredhel Not an Aboriginal author but that was only a strong suggestion! I'll pay it :) 3y

The rereads continue! Ruth and Jane have joined our found family.

The ending is kind of nasty for both the villains of this. Yeek.

After 2.5hrs of Locke & Key for my #24B4Monday #readathon it wasn‘t keeping my attention, so in celebration of all things aussie for #AUDayReadathon I‘m rereading the audiobook of the 3rd Phryne Fisher novel. Phryne & her maid Dot are travelling overnight on the Ballarat train when Miss Fisher awakens to the smell of chloroform. Pulling the cord, she alerts the conductors who find there‘s a missing woman. #phryneappreciationclub🇦🇺

Heading to Ohio to spend Easter weekend with my brother in law and his family! It‘s been raining on us ever since we left our house two hours ago 😬. Probably won‘t get much reading done except when we are at our hotel and during the drive but should be a great time anyway! Hope all my Litten friends have a fantastic weekend!!

BookishMarginalia Have a safe trip! (And that #bookcover is fab!) 6y

#BookMail Pt3 Whilst I do have the whole collection of Phryne books(and praying for a new one. Please??)the first 6 are in two bind ups of 3in1, so I‘m buying the solo books to match the rest of my set. I may even give away both compendiums once I have all six on my shelf. I‘ve only read them once & they‘ve been in my bookcase since so they‘re in perfect condition. Would anyone be interested? #phryneappreciationclub

JazzFeathers I suppose you don't ship internationally 6y
Jeg I‘m in the middle of Lost Man. Seems to me her books get better and better. Enjoyed them all so far. 6y
Lizpixie @JazzFeathers yep, I‘ll ship internationally if needed👍 @Jeg that‘s actually a signed copy, I bought & already read an unsigned copy but when I saw signed ones on Booktopia I had to add it to my signed copies of The Dry & Force Of Nature. I‘ll probably give away the unsigned one too. 6y
JazzFeathers @Lizpixie l am very interested, then (l'm from ltaly) 😊 6y
wordsofbek @Lizpixie if they are still available I'm interested. I have a thing for signed books! 6y

Another excellent Phryne Fisher novel - I preferred this one to Flying Too High to be honest. Really really enjoyable, is there anything Phryne can‘t do? 😍 I‘ve made my way through the first three novels now and will have to wait and order the next few before I can continue the series, but I can‘t wait 😊

Weaponxgirl Have you watched the to show? It's so much fun and I should also give these novels a try 7y
larah17 @Weaponxgirl yes I LOVE the show, watching that pushed me to read the books 😁 Essie Davis is so fabulous!! The books are excellent too, short but so witty! (edited) 7y

Cute little mystery series. If you want something light (can a murder mystery be called that?), these might fit the bill. Read as I watched our fire outside.

Late start- began this last night as alternative with my #BOTMBuddyRead, Sing,Unburied, Sing. Thursday night was book club. We read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Everyone enjoyed the novel-Good discussions about differences in treatment of mental illness(at least as portrayed in book)- none of us felt we would have paid time off & a job to return to in USA. This month‘s pick is A Gentleman in Moscow, Feb #BOTMbuddyread.

My favourite literary mother & daughter combination is the one between Phryne Fisher and her two adopted daughters Jane & Ruth.Phryne didn't have a maternal bone in her body, but rather than seeing the girls end up in welfare, she takes them in and falls in love with being a mum.The girls are smart, especially Jane who is genius level smart, and they both have helped Phryne with her cases.Book Phryne&Girls are much better than TV Phryne&Girls #700Club

Jas16 I love this! I have never read these books but you have made me curious. 7y
DarcysMom Good one! I love the book relationship. The tv relationship is so distant. 7y

'Oh, Miss Fisher,' gasped Lindsay, dropping to his knees in front of her and burying his head in her shoulder. 'I think I've fallen in love with you!'

'Quite possibly,' agreed Phryne briskly. 'But it will wear off.'

Managed to finish this last night and bring my April total to eight books. As usual, I couldn't put a Phryne Fisher novel down. I've now finished all three in this collection, so it's back to Amazon. Our library only has the most recent books, and, having read the latest before I read the first, I've realized this series really needs to be read in order. I just don't want to go through them too quickly.

JazzFeathers I've just started rrading this series (not from the first book, unfortunately) and l'm loving it 💕 8y

Since I'm spending almost an entire day (literally!) on a train, I'm amusing myself with knitting, wine, and reading. Pretty sure I could solve a mystery on this Amtrak, if it came down to it. I'm regarding everyone with suspicion and remaining alert for the smell of chloroform...

The mystery plot are never really hard to solve but keep me reading. Again Greenwood tackles a hard subject that is directly link to the women's condition of the time. Also the detectives or policemen are never shown to be 'idiots' just not as fast as Phryne (and who is) at solving the mysteries. Which is a nice twist as a lot of the time the detectives and policemen are used to boost up the lead character. Not the case here.

Love the Phryne Fisher series, love the Art Deco/flapper period they're set in & love strong female characters in a time when it was frowned on to have opinions.Plus the fashions were so fabulous, cloche hats, beads, fur stoles & the wraps, shawls & scarves! Fantastic! Phryne & her companion Dot are on the overnight train to Ballarat, when she's woken up by the smell of chloroform. Pulling the cord, they realise a woman in their carriage is missing.
