Imagine that your husband has two other wives. Youve never met the other wives. None of you know each other, and because of this unconventional arrangement, you can see your husband only one day a week. But you love him so much you dont care. Or at least thats what youve told yourself. But one day, while youre doing laundry, you find a scrap of paper in his pocketan appointment reminder for a woman named Hannah, and you just know its another of the wives. You thought you were fine with your arrangement, but you cant help yourself: you track her down, and, under false pretenses, you strike up a friendship. Hannah has no idea who you really are. Then, Hannah starts showing up to your coffee dates with telltale bruises, and you realize shes being abused by her husband. Who, of course, is also your husband. But youve never known him to be violent, ever. Who exactly is your husband, and how far would you go to find the truth? Would you risk your own life? And who is his mysterious third wife?

Last night we are sitting here and this is the conversation:
Steven: Did you get those books today at the library?
Me: No, it was closed. I got those Thursday.
Steven: What about those books you've won? Have you read those?
Me: Not all of them.
Steven: You have those books in your bookshelves.
Me: Yeah
Steven: I thought we agreed you were going to read those books before you got any from library.
Me: I love you

3.5 ⭐️- This book is the talk of suspense-loving book nerds everywhere. It was a fast-paced, tense ride that had a unique twist towards the end that made me go ‘Really?‘ This was a great read that ended as a good read.

What did you all think of it?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ There was not a page in this book that I did not love. I was 100% invested from the 1st page to the last. There were so many twists and turns, some expected, some unexpected. I usually take about 5-6 days to complete a book. However, I read this one in only 2 days because it was that good. Hear me when I say couldn‘t put it down. I enjoyed Tarryn Fisher‘s writing style. Every word served a purpose. The plot was perfectly executed.

The Wives was an intriguing, action-packed, 5* page turner for me until about the 55% mark. The premise was fascinating and I was invested in the story, but I didn‘t love the direction it took which left me with majorly conflicted feelings. Wasn‘t terrible, just left me feeling a bit deflated. Overall a 3* for me

This book was recommended over and over again. Everyone said it was amazing. I don‘t really get it. I found the main character to be annoying so maybe that was part of my issue. I don‘t know. But I can honestly say I wouldn‘t recommend this book.

I jusr finished The Wives by Tarryn Fisher. It was all kinds of screwed up and i dont know if i liked it or not but it was a good read. I love that you really didnt know whar was delusion or reality til the end. No spoilers but the ending you will never see coming either way.

The first 150 pages were great! I'm talking 5-star great! Then it took a drastic turn and I was so disappointed. 👎👎 It was reminiscent of Girl on the Train, which I hated. I skimmed so much towards the end because it was just so ridiculous and unbelievable. Also, without saying too much to be a spoiler, I had expected to read a book about the premise which we were given, but that was not truly the case.

Crazy! I like it when a thriller isn‘t predictable. This one had some issues, but it certainly wasn‘t the ending that I expected. Good, quick Sunday read.

I was intrigued by this plot right away but it did change into something else. There‘s a twist or two and a surprise ending. It‘s an easy, quick thriller.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Wives lost me about 3/4 of the way through when I felt a typical thriller plot twist coming on. It‘s well-written and moved quickly, but once I finished I realized that not a lot had happened plot-wise. Annnd then the twist. It was slightly eye-rolling and I was irritated the book took a different direction. I think a reader just getting into thrillers will enjoy it, while I‘ve been on thriller overload and starting to see it all. #botm

Chloemm I definitely did not care for the ending! A 2 ⭐️ for me 1mo
LazyLibrary @Chloemm Honestly, it‘s a two ⭐️ for me too. I threw in the extra Bc I did stay engaged until a certain point, and some readers might be wowed by the twist. I just wasn‘t one of them haha 1mo
rubyslippersreads This was a 2 ⭐️ for me, too. I was disappointed at the direction the story took. 1mo
LazyLibrary @rubyslippersreads Yes! I wanted to read the story that was presented to me. A woman in a polygamist marriage, who stalks the other wives. It turned into a completely different plot! 4w

Not my typical thing, especially now that I‘m a couple chapters in, this is definitely a housewife novel so far but it could be interesting. I‘ll give it a shot.

What a rollercoaster! Very well done. The absolute definition of an unreliable narrator. I was left guessing until the very last.

The Wives: A Novel | Tarryn Fisher

We busy ourselves trying not to be lonely, trying to find purpose in careers, and lovers, and children, but at any moment, those things we work so hard to possess could be taken from us. I feel better knowing I‘m not alone, that the whole world is as fragile and lonely as I am.

Fighting was the sandpaper that smoothed out the first years of a relationship. Sure, there was still plenty of lifelong grit after that, but the fighting stripped everything down, let the other person know what was important to you.

This was my first book club read of the year and holy crow y'all, it blew my mind. I was CONVINCED I knew what was happening and then BAM. I knew NOTHING. SO GOOD.

And the last paragraph has me shook. If you're the type who reads the last page first, DON'T DO IT.

I was hesitant to jump into this because I really hated ‘Bad Mommy‘ but my book club decided that we should try to give Tarryn Fisher another try. Unexpectedly, I ended up really enjoying this one. I was dying to know what was happening and was hooked until the very end. I‘m glad I gave her another try!

One of my New Year‘s resolutions is to read as many #botm books as I can (I‘m so behind!). I just had to start with The Wives, since I‘ve been hearing so much about it. I‘m left with very mixed feelings. On one hand, it grabbed me from the first chapter and I just had to finish it before I went to bed last night — unputdownable would be an appropriate word! On the other hand, I was not a fan of the ending AT ALL. I woke up several times last ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Night, and this would be the first thing I‘d think of (and think to myself, wow I‘m really disappointed in the ending!). Maybe it‘s just me, as plenty of people seem to love this. I think it‘s still worth reading, I‘m just a tad disappointed. 3⭐️ 2mo
That-Bookish-Hiker The ending disappointed me too and she could have done so much more than that. but overall I enjoy her books and characters hers. 2mo
JenlovesJT47 @That-Bookish-Hiker Right? I thought it would have been a much better story and more interesting for her NOT to end up just being crazy. Oh well! 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo

I loved the way that Tarryn Fisher portrayed the narrator by making the reader question her reliability. Definitely a top suspense read.
