Enders shadow is a spin-off of Enders game. The book is about a poor orphan named bean who is a general in battle school along side Ender. Bean becomes Ender‘s right hand and friend over the course of their time together. This is about the origins of bean and he‘s upbringing growing up on the streets of Rotterdam. This book is great for those who love space fiction. Really easy to get into even if you haven‘t read the first book at all8/10

MissYaremcio Thank you for the review! I was just missing your POV and how it is established! 4/6 3y

I actually got in solid reading time last night! Husband was recording his podcast so it was just me. Nothing like a bit of coloring and video gaming while listening to an audiobook. 🤓 #EclecticReadathon @EclecticReaders

Ender's Shadow is a masterpiece. It tells the same story of Ender's Game but from the perspective of Bean. It also shows Beans backstory and more about the formation of Dragon Army.

MrsBabki Interesting. 6y

Read after Ender‘s Game. Enjoyed it, for the most part, but had trouble with some of it. It was interesting to have a different perspective than Ender. You don‘t realize how brilliant Bean really is until you see the world from his perspective. #endersgame #endersshadow #bookchallengeof2019 #orsonscottcard

4.5/5💚s

I LOVED getting to know Bean better, his past, his personality, & his experience. Loved how this book gives an alternative look into the Enderverse & I can‘t wait to read more. The ending also gave me the warm fuzzies which is not something you really get in the Ender series.

Day 5 of #agameoffavorites
For my favourite Sci-Fi author, I chose Orson Scott Card. I enjoy reading his parallel series to Ender‘s Game, beginning with the tagged book.
When researching his favourite books/authors I stumbled upon his website which listed no less than 52 authors that represent those who were important during the beginning of his writing career and 19 authors that he always looks forward to and buys new works instantly.

Since my daughter picked out my last read my husband wanted to pick out my next one. Our son gave his opinion too and wanted me to read this one cause it had his name on it. 😊

Under the Radar #24in48 challenge
While the author is well know, I think this one is definitely underappreciated compared to Ender's Game, and much closer to it in tone/style than Speaker for the Dead. I love that it shows us some scenes w/verbatim dialogue to Ender's Game but a totally different interpretation with Bean as the MC. Bean is one of the smartest characters I've ever read, but we're forced to ask if that lessens his humanity. @24in48

Linsy This makes me interested! I really enjoyed Ender‘s Game. 6y
BookFreakOut @Linsy Glad to hear that! It opens with Bean's wretched childhood on the streets of Rotterdam and we see him overlap with Ender once he gets to battle school. The Shadow books that follow show what happens on Earth after the final battle, including Peter's quest for power and lots of Battle School grads we already know from from Ender's Game. Bean's story gets into genetic engineering and what makes us human, I thought it was super interesting! 6y

The Shadow series has to be my favorite sci fi. I‘d love to be back in that universe.

I even named my first dog Bean because he was tiny and smart. #GIVEAWAYTHEPOWER

BookFreakOut Ender's Game is my favorite book but this series is my favorite as a whole. Bean is the BEST! 7y
Megabooks @BookFreakOut Bean rocks!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 7y
KathyWheeler I loved Ender‘s Game but loved Ender‘s Shadow even more. There‘s just something about Bean that I really like. 7y

1. Shadow Saga by Orson Scott Card
2. Anything designed to turn perfectly good food spicy
3. Not a phobia, but spiders have a nasty habit of appearing in our bathroom. Call it a healthy paranoia.
4. Sandwiched between two brothers
5. PREPARE TO BE GREETED, LITTENS!

This book is noteworthy for pulling off being a successful side-quel, not retelling Ender's Game, but telling a new, compelling story that just happens to share a timeline and characters.

I'm re-reading this, though it's my first time on audio. I'd forgotten how brutal the beginning is as Bean tries to survive on the streets of Rotterdam...before he meets Ender and before he finds a new future that changes the world.

#FeistyFeb Day 2 #Shadows - this is my favorite book in the series. I enjoy Bean's story over Ender's. He was a literal shadow but made his own mark in the world. @RealLifeReading

Megabooks Me too! My dog Preston's middle name was Bean because he was underweight and a genius little dog when I got him! 8y
Liatrek Loved the Ender series this has been on my TBR pile for awhile 8y
Ruri_kaichou @Ebooksandcooks aw~~~ cute! What a perfect name for him! We called our daughter Bean before we knew what her sex was going to be. And then my husband seriously considered naming her Bean 😩 8y
Ruri_kaichou @Liatrek you should read them! It gets pretty philosophical as the series gets on but the story is still pretty interesting. 8y

These books tell the same story from the point of view of two different characters. Ender's Shadow is amazing, but you need to read both to appreciate. If you've read Ender's Game and haven't read Ender's Shadow, you will love it! Written many years later, the writing is much more nuanced. Great pair to read together!!

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled These are wonderful. My favorite is Speaker for the Dead. 8y
Ruri_kaichou I'm an Ender's Shadow fan here. So so good 8y
Sarahsbookshelves Love #dysfunctionalfamilies and this book specifically! 8y
Dragon I just read Ender's Game after I watched the movie. I'm going to have to read this one now. I think I know which character's point-of-view is used. 8y

#booktober Favorite Sidekick? Bean from Ender's Game. I also love that Orson Scott Card thought so too and wrote his story, too (years later). Just goes to show, a sidekick to someone else's story is the hero in their own. (Plus, I preferred Enders Shadow to Enders Game.) 🚀

jetspins24 Me too. Bean was more flawed and interesting than Ender. Plus it was fun to read that story and see how involved in the outcome of Ender's story Bean was, unbeknownst to Ender or most anyone else. 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Ooo! Good pick! Bean is the best. 8y
Ruri_kaichou I like Ender's Shadow over Ender's Game as well! The end of Ender's Shadow always makes me cry. 8y
Merethebookgal I loved Ender's Game and I really need to read Bean's series! 8y
