This essay is incredible. I love that he ends it with a mention of The Birds, one of her most disturbing stories.

I have been reading the tagged book today. Thematically arranged, with brief essays on each author, it has been fascinating. Beowulf, Icelandic Sagas, Ivy Compton-Burnett, Gorey, Marlowe & now Cavafy are just a few of the authors & works covered so far.
I just joined The Classics Club (again!) with a huge list of children‘s classics from my TBR. Anyone else working on a list?

I‘m slowly continuing the task of shelving all the B&N Classics I got for free for Nook years ago. While I put together a #litsyclassics list, if #litsyatoz has been any indication, it‘s bound to change over 2018.
So many books! I‘m only up to Kafka and I‘ve got close to 70!
I finally put my tentative reading list together for the #2018 #litsyclassics challenge!
What other interesting year-long 2018 Litsy challenges are out there so far? I usually do #popsugarreadingchallenge and a #tbr challenge, but looking for some new ideas!
Found this on FB. @Sarah83 Sounds like a great motto for the #litsyclassics challenge, doesn‘t it? ❤️
@EclecticReaders asked an #eclecticquestion for an upcoming podcast: What bookish items are on your Christmas list? I'm looking at this scratch-off classics poster by Pop Chart Lab. The framed version is a pricey $130, but the poster alone is $35. This might be a fun idea for someone participating in #LitsyClassics next year!
(Someone posted about this when I first joined Litsy, but I cannot find the post, otherwise I would give credit!)
@Sarah83 I‘ve completed my #LitsyClassics form.
Thanks for organizing. This will be fun.
Parody at its best. Enjoy! https://www.newyorker.com/humor/daily-shouts/kellyanne-conway-spins-great-works-...
Once, several years ago, Barnes & Noble had a ton of their classics available for free. I downloaded them all.
Some I read in high school or college. Most I never read at all. I intend to get through them. Someday.
Even though it's a shelf of ebooks, it is definitely my heaviest!

Writing about the Icelandic Sagas:
"The Icelanders may have given us the Althing--- the earliest known "parliament"--- but the law they truly believed in was the Lex talionis, the biblical eye for an eye. Think of the sagas as Mafia crime dramas, or spaghetti westerns on ice."
"The oldest books are only just out for those who have not yet read them." - Samuel Butler. #24in48 #readathon
Fun Photo Friday: One of the things I like to read about is reading. Here is a selection of books on that topic, from which you can deduce some of my favorite authors in the field. Anyone have suggestions for other reading about reading?
