I had such a good time with this book! Perlman did deliver again.
Set in a legal corporate setting this book is witty and funny and even touching. “Ordinary” lawyer Steven Maserov and his wonderful entourage challenge the giants and tackle some big corporate issues like the so often ignored MeToo claims in these environments.

TrishB Yeah, those mtgs are depressing. I was carrying 2 vacancies in my team, been allowed to recruit to one, but having the other means it probably saves a redundancy. 4y

This is a good fun read (or listen). Stephen Maserov a second year lawyer at Freely Savage Carter Blanche, is in danger of losing his job. With this in mind he makes a daring move.

This reminded me of an Australian TV series, Rake. Good characters and writing, with laugh out loud moments. And very excitingly it was read by the author, who is one of my favourite Australian authors. He is a fantastic narrator.

Squeal! Started this audiobook yesterday not only is it written by Elliot Perlman, he's reading it too. And he's voice is perfect. Its a great start, thoroughly enjoying it so far.

LOVED IT. This was such a fun, fast paced, intriguing legal drama with a cast of unique characters. I can totally see this being made into a tv show, one I would definitely watch. Excellent on audio too.

I love myself a bit of Elliot Perlman and it‘s been ages since I delved I to one. I‘ve polished about half of this audiobook off in an afternoon and I‘m totally caught up in the dramas. I‘ll probably finish it tomorrow and then mourns that it‘s over too quickly.

#BookReport for March, not including the trashy romances I read, none of which was very good. I enjoyed all of these. I liked Maybe the Horse Will Talk best, The Wife and the Widow least.

CarolynM @Cinfhen It turned out to be just a romance story which was a bit disappointing but I liked it very much because of its setting and because the characters were really strong (although I wasn't really convinced they needed to be together) 5y

The story of a junior lawyer in mega law firm Freely Savage Carter Blanche who finds a way to avoid losing his job in the ritual cull of the second years and in the process uncovers a web of corporate corruption, nepotism and sexual harassment. The book is a satirical fantasy, but I like to think it's true that honesty and integrity can win, at least sometimes. The book is also very funny. I loved it. #ozfiction. #bookspin

CarolynM @JennyM Yes, we're OK 😬 I'm concerned for my elderly parents in Adelaide (I'm an only child which is usually just fine, but not so much right now) and the financial implications are a definite worry but so long as I can get coffee at my usual cafe I'll be alright🙂 How are things with you? I think you'll like the book. 5y

Cinfhen I love this author!!! I fear for my parents too, although I‘m not an only child at the moment all my siblings are a plane ride away so none of us are close by. As for coffee, my local place is closed and I‘m literally down to my final 2 packs of Starbucks 🤪🤪Keeping you all in my prayers XX 5y

BarbaraBB I understand your worries Carolyn and @Cinfhen. I do hope others will take care of your parents. I notice a great solidarity among people these days, that is one of the upside things. My highschool friends are now doing the groceries for my parents because they live nearby. How sweet is that? And I love Perlman too. Take care my friends ❤️ (edited) 5y

CarolynM @Cinfhen The distance hasn't been a problem, we've visited back and forth a lot and always been able to get to one another reasonably quickly in difficult times, but now they're 80 it's getting harder for them to travel and in this situation I can't get to them. We thought of bringing them over when this was getting started but they wouldn't be physically comfortable here for very long and also they'd be more likely to get it from us ☹️ 5y

CarolynM @Cinfhen Their general health is pretty good though, we're in close touch on the phone and they seem to be being sensible and coping so hopefully all will be well. Glad your parents are well and have good support around them. Ration that coffee carefully!! 😘 5y

Jeg I really like his books. Having read your review I‘m going to buy a copy . Parents are a worry at this time. My partner has a 99 year old mum in Scotland still living at home. Luckily she lives in a very supportive village. Meals on wheels and a carer once a day. Plus she talks to us on Messenger everyday. 5y

Jeg @CarolynM I guessed what you were saying. 😊. Got the book today. Decided I really want to keep our local book shop open. I got two books I‘d like to read. Talking to them , they said they will take orders over phone and deliver. When we were in shop no one else in there. I usually only buy kids books and the odd sale book so it was most expensive book buy today. Will have to curtail spending as our super plummets. 😢. Hugs to you. Stay safe. 5y

Full disclosure: I‘m a serious Perlman fan. I‘ve read all his published fiction. This is his latest novel and I couldn‘t resist bumping it to the top of my gargantuan #tbr.

Contemporary, observant, funny and clever. It explores sexual misconduct in the workplace and the pressures of modern life, with a bit of love story thrown in for good measure.

Perlman is a great Australian novelist. #mustreadauthor

CarolynM Great review. I started Seven Types of Ambiguity when it first came out but didn't make it very far. I didn't dislike it, but in the midst of young children my concentration wasn't up to it. I always intended to try again but I haven't yet. This one looks good. 5y
