Where the Crawdads Sing Deluxe Edition
Where the Crawdads Sing Deluxe Edition | Delia Owens
#1 New York Times BestsellerA Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine Book Club Pick With over three million copies sold, "a painfully beautiful first novel that is at once a murder mystery, a coming-of-age narrative and a celebration of nature" (The New York Times Book Review), now available as a beautiful, deluxe edition that will make the perfect holiday gift--or treat for yourself. "I can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end!"--Reese Witherspoon "Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver."--Bustle For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens. At once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder, Where the Crawdads Sing has touched the hearts of millions of readers around the world, and this beautiful deluxe edition features a full color map and illustrations, gorgeous printed endpapers, an updated jacket, and an all-new letter from the author. Through Kya's story, Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

I absolutely loved this book. It's got a Forrest Gump meets To Kill a Mockingbird vibe and atmosphere but a story all of its own. Brilliant effortless prose that allowed for visual imagery to settle in your mind, bringing the characters an enigmatic setting to life. Couldn't put it down.

My first 2024 read and it was the right pick! I just loved the way it was told, such an enjoyable one with all the feels! I hoped that the great books will keep on coming after this🫰🏻This is also my pick for #bookspinbingo
It‘s about a girl abandoned by her family and she has to fend for herself in the marsh. A little like Tarzan but with a different premise, I liked that the story is told until she grows old, with closure and a twist! 👇🏻

SusanLee It truly was an engaging read and I‘ve rated this 5/5!!! #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks 3mo

The sign of a good book: shedding of tears.
Best way to start my holidays was by finishing this book, in bed, with my coffee, and my cat.
Through the story of the Marsh Girl, not only do we get to feel and smell the marsh and all the amazing creatures, big and small that inhabit trance, but our heart strings are pulled as we yearn for the survival and need for love of one lonely girl/woman.

Read it friends!

Kya is laughed at by classmates, abandoned by family, ignored or attacked by lovers. No wonder she hides in the marsh. The town feels thinly sketched. The quarterback is arrogant, the defense lawyer swaggers, the two cops go to diners. Cliches aside: almost every adult, particularly those in authority, is insensitive to her pain. Any violence she brings to them is strangely thought of as a win, where the real victory is moving on without them.

1) The tagged book was my absolute favorite book I‘ve read in August, and perhaps the entire year.

2) I adored the main character, Kya. A strong, heartbroken and independent woman who lived her days alone but always in the company of nature. I was often heartbroken for her, and books rarely make me cry, but this one certainly did. I was immersed in Kya‘s story from start to finish.

This does a great job at turning the pages and, though I don‘t read many, judge this to be a righteous mystery/courtroom drama. The descriptions of the natural world are some of the best and engaging bits that make this the good read that it is. Shame I couldn‘t get over the “To Kill a Mockingbird” feel, even though there was plenty to set it apart… that‘s more me than the book…

I knew I would enjoy this book because many people recommended it to me, however it really exceeded all expectations! It is a wonderfully complex story that pulls you in and really makes you feel for the main character, Kya. I highly recommend reading this if you haven‘t already!

1. It‘s one of the factors that makes me want to read a book or avoid entirely.
2. I‘d rather not know anything. That‘s what the summary is for.
3. I got a hardcover of the tagged book last year for Christmas. Just something about the cover I really like. Still need to finish it though. 😅

Roary47 Normally, in murder mysteries you look in the view of someone trying to solve the case. This was different in learning the whole life story of the killer. I believe with following how Kya grew up threw me off the case of her being the murderer because I grew to feel sorry for Kya and they way she was treated by everyone. (edited) 3y
megnews It‘s been awhile since I read it but I think it slowed down and sped up throughout which is in part because of the marsh. I think other mysteries are faster paced or more action. This was quite unique. 3y
sblbooks @Roary47 @megnews It's different from other murder mysteries I've read. Usually the story is told from the victim's point of view. In this novel, I had empathy for the murderer. 3y

Roary47 I think she was hurt and heartbroken. She really thought Chase would marry her and when she didn‘t she remembered the mantis. If she couldn‘t have him no one should so she killed him like the mantis kills her mate. 3y
sblbooks @Roary47 I agree. Do you think she even realized that what she did was wrong? I don't think so. In her mind that's just the way it is in nature. 3y
Roary47 @sblbooks I agree that based on her upbringing in nature she didn‘t know it was wrong. In fact probably under the impression that it was justified by the laws of nature she observed. 3y

Roary47 I think Tate always cared for Kya, but like everyone else in Kya‘s life he left to make a better life for himself. I‘m sure he saw Kya as a strong person who could care for herself, but when it came to relationships with others she could be lacking. I think they were good together and Tate was a good guy for her. Like others in Kya‘s life I wish he would have stayed with her or took her with him. 3y
