🔸Do you use books as decorative objects?
Yes! I mean, I don‘t buy books purely for purposes of decor, but for me books are art and being surrounded by them are what make my house a home. These are a couple of my books on this very topic.

🔸What distracts you most from reading?
Seemingly everything. I never feel like I get enough reading time.

I saw this in #bookpage; lo and behold, my library had a copy. Such a beautiful book the gives insight into other people‘s lives and relationship with books. When I lived in Paris, I frequented Shakespeare and Company, this picture is from the rare book room at the store.

This ode to libraries and the book lovers that created them has a fresh, design focused lends that is really interesting. I loved hearing stories of how they created and curated their libraries and seeing the gorgeous photos of their unique spaces. The subjects were really varied too, you meet artists, writers, even royal descendants! And the peeks into iconic bookstores is an added bonus. This is a must read! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

JamieArc My favorite course in grad school was The Book as an Object. I am definitely not only a reader, but lover of books. This looks right up my alley. 3y

One more picture of the futon with my bookish blanket and bookish pillows. I never think about things I “collect” but I love bookish pillows.

My completely poor college student basement book nook look- even though I‘m 49 years old- most of these are children‘s books and YA with a few favorites and plan to read in the mix. My adult books and nonfiction are mostly upstairs. I finally finished this space 4 years after moving in🤣

Butterfinger I love it. It looks so comfortable. 4y

2/5⭐ This book is less about how "we" live with books and far more about how a bunch of wealthy hoarders exist among books. The book is laid out nicely with a few pages dedicated to each profiled person and some mini sections about various bookstores and libraries.

(continued in comments)

hissingpotatoes The intro claims "this book is not about unattainable libraries" but about "the power of books to tell stories." However, I started to get annoyed when everyone proudly announced they can never get rid of any books, have so many books they don't remember which ones & can't find anything, trip over the books covering every surface, & in one case spend $200-300 a month on books. O_O There's no power in your collection when it's that overwhelming. 5y
hissingpotatoes I stopped reading at the person whose profile began "I don't want to sound pretentious, but I don't understand people who don't have books" and on the very next page admitted to buying books solely because the spine color fit the aesthetic of their home. Pretty sure my eyeballs dislocated, they rolled so hard. 5y

Sometimes a Monday calls for an afternoon hot chocolate with EXTRA large marshmallows! The child in me, was thrilled when I remembered I had some leftover s‘mores marshmallows in the cupboard. They‘re so large, only two would fit in the largest mug I own. In this case, a simple pleasure seems to be a bit bigger than usual, today. ☺️

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Looks yummy!!! 5y
catebutler @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thank you!! Wish I could send you a cup. xx 5y

I could just post pictures from this all day. I love books like this. As expected in a book like this, many of the home libraries shown here are from very expensive houses. There are a fair number of authors like Art Spiegleman, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Larry McMurtry. The book is arranged by collection type: Sentimentalist, Intuitives, Arrangers, Professionals, and Collectors. There is a good mix between traditional and modern.

Gasp, there is a speakeasy bookstore run out of someone‘s apt in NYC! This secret bookstore‘s address is provided on a need-to-know basis only. The owner lost his bookshop due to rising rents and then ran it out of his apt until zoning officials caught him. Now, his new secret location holds occasional readings and is also his personal apt.
