So I‘m about 1/4 into this book and it‘s taking me a while to read it. I think it‘s mainly due to how much school work I‘ve been doing and how much I‘ve been working! (Peep the pink scrubs 👀) I‘m hoping to spend some more time this weekend reading it and hopefully relaxing before Midterms start!

Intense teen book. Sadie's drug-addicted mom abandoned Sadie and her younger sister after subjecting them to a string of bad boyfriends, one of whom abused the girls. Sadie's sister is murdered and Sadie goes after the killer. The story is partly told through podcast episodes and interviews.

This was an interesting book where the predators hide in plain sight. It's the story of two missing sisters, at separate times: one whose fate is known and the other which is unknown. The novel is told through dual narration of a podcast and also the POV of one of the missing girls and protagonist, Sadie. The book deals the effects of childhood abuse, grief, and mothers, and daughters. I read the book, but many suggest to listen to the audiobooks.

TheLudicReader I have read everything by this author and Sadie is my favourite. 1y

Day 6 #NoShameReadathon2023 recommendations:
Podcast inspired
Here are 4 I‘ve read and enjoyed!
Stay Sexy & Don‘t Get Murdered - basically the podcasters rambles in a book, but a fun quick read
The World of LORE - there are several books collecting the tales of horror on the podcast
Welcome to Night Vale - direct transcripts of the podcast in print
Sadie - a fictional story of a podcast obsessed girl solving a crime

Told via a combination of a podcast and the title characters narrative, this is a heartbreaking story of a missing girl seeking revenge. It is excellent, do not be deterred by its YA designation, it is very well written and dark (nothing is shared graphically but it does involve child abuse). I highly recommend the audiobook, it is an excellent production. 5⭐️

A wonderful book: excellent writing and character development. Very unique concept of having a dual narration one of which is in the form of a podcast (!!!). The audio production on audible was phenomenal and honestly, don‘t read it, LISTEN to it. Full review on anushareflects.com

I can‘t even begin to express how absolutely spectacular this book was.

A very moving and heartbreaking story, coupled with a magnificent, all-cast performance. You HAVE to listen to this book.

No, don‘t read it. LISTEN.

You‘ll be missing out on something very special if you don‘t.

This story is truly heartbreaking. The saddest part for me was the author‘s point that girls go missing all of the time. I listened to this audiobook and the format of a podcast investigating their disappearance worked really well. I love a full cast narration and the actor who voiced Sadie was very good, but some of the others were kind of stilted. Leaving the ending kind of open was a strange choice that I didn‘t really like. 3.75/5 stars

This is story about Sadie, her sister Mattie is found dead and Sadie disappears to try to find out who killed her. Her grandmother is worried and ask Wes McCray who decides to find out where Sadie went. He has a radio show so through a podcast he interviews the people involved. It a good story, it has some trigger warnings you might want to check before reading. It had me gripped wanting to know what happens to Sadie.

I really really liked this book. It was very raw and emotional and the main character was so relatable. I loved the two povs and the podcast was super cool so you got everyone's pov at some point. I'm gunna knock off half a start for the ending tho. Won't day why because spoilers, but I didn't like it. 4.5/5 stars.

🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2

Sadie is about a girl trying to find the person who killed her little sister Mattie. Sadie ends up missing and her surrogate grandmother is desperate to find her. It's told in a dual timeline with Sadie as one POV and West McCray, a radio personality, as the other POV. West is working on a podcast about small towns and ends up hearing about Sadie's story. If you end up listening to the audiobook, it's a wonderful full-cast narration.

A difficult one for me to review. I liked the format alternating between Sadie‘s POV and the podcast episodes. The story was just so grim - as it was intended to be, but not what I would normally choose. I couldn‘t stop listening, but I was glad when it was over.

This was well written, but it just didn‘t click for me. I felt no attachment to the characters or the story. Because this is supposed to be (in part) a podcast, I also had a lot of trouble with how the interviewees sounded like they were reading from a script. I wanted a bit more ad-libbing, some well-placed ummms, etc. to make it sound how people actually talk. I get there issues with doing this, but it prevented me from buying into the story.

So I am thinking of an audiobook swap. Here's how it would work:

You'd fill.out a form that asks.you which service you use to get Audiobooks. Audible or LibroFm. Your match would buy your Audiobook (s) on the day of the Opening and they would send you some small bookish trinkets.. maybe some headphones or a Pop socket for your phone or maybe some claiming strips.

So that way you have something to open and you get a new book. Thoughts?

Bookgoil I‘d do that I have both apps 4y
PurpleTulipGirl That would be fun! I‘d be interested in that for audiobooks or ebooks. 4y

I picked this one up on a whim and was totally intrigued by the whole “if she dies, she takes the truth with her” and I HAD to know if it did or not. The podcast side of the book was a nice surprise and did make me think this would be great as an audiobook (which I did listen to right after finishing the book and it was amazing!) It definitely has a heavy tone so not for the light hearted.

This book left me feeling shattered. It shines a light on our true crime obsession whilst refusing to shy away from the terrible pain of trauma and loss and being forced to survive on the margins of our society. Part of the great power of it is what it leaves unsaid and off the page.

TW/CW for child abuse, pedophilia, drug abuse, and mention of suicide.

Well there goes my #24in48. There‘s no way I can pick up another book after this one. We follow Sadie as she hunts down her sister‘s killer. Alternating that story is a podcaster who is now following up on the disappearance of Sadie, herself. This was dark and disturbing without the really horrific details, thank god. There are some really spot on paragraphs in here about different things that just really grabbed hold of me. Thanks so much,👇🏼

Reggie Margie for sending this book to me cause I never would have picked it up on my own. And then I heard Courtney Summers on The Books in the Freezer podcast, she sounded really nice, and thought with her new book coming out now would be a good time. Sadie was great! 4y
Bookzombie I‘m so happy it was great for you too! I listened to it and remember that I just had to sit and listen sometimes. Also, I cried. I‘m excited to read her new one too! 4y
Reggie Me too!! She‘s dead right? People on here are like ‘I hated that cliffhanger.‘ There‘s no way. She‘s gone. I hope you like her new one but so far it isn‘t looking good by the reviews on here. Also one more thing. I honestly can‘t believe Sadie is YA. Although, I feel like this is one of those books a lot of kids could benefit by reading, it read very adult to me. @Bookzombie (edited) 4y

Reggie @Megabooks I don‘t know if I could ever reread this book but it‘s very well written and just soooo good. I saw that you liked her new one which gives me hope. 4y
Megabooks @Reggie Sadie is the better book, but I did truly enjoy The Project. 4y
vivastory I don't typically reread books, but I'd like to hear this one on audio, Also, have you checked out the Six Stories series? They're set in a similar format: true crime podcast. So far Wesolowski has released five. I've read the first 3. I LOVED the first one (simply titled Six Stories) & # 3 (Changeling). #2 was alright, nothing special. If you do decide to read them I would def start with the first book & I would go in knowing little as possible (edited) 4y
vivastory @Megabooks I can't wait to read The Project. I meant to grab it yesterday at B&N 4y
Megabooks @vivastory I hope you like The Project as much as I did, and definitely listen to Sadie. It is truly awesome as an audiobook!! I‘m a sucker for a full-cast recording. 4y

Reggie @Megabooks @Vivastory Courtney was on the The Books in the Freezer Horror podcast last week and she was very happy with her audiobook of Sadie. She sounds like a nice author. And I hadn‘t heard of the 6 story series, Scott, but I‘ll check them out. Thanks! 4y
vivastory I really need to check out the Books in the Freezer podcast. I used to watch Stephanie's booktube channel 4y
Reggie @vivastory I like the older shows a lot. She‘s gone through two cohosts, Rachel was great, the guy, meh. She‘s great at interviewing guests and sounds very natural. 4y
vivastory Is that Rachel from Shades of Orange? 4y
vivastory Nice! She's another booktube fave. I'll definitely check it out. I saw where she created a spotify playlist of what her guests said their final girls song would be 😂 Some good stuff on there 4y
Reggie @vivastory I haven‘t checked it out but she was laughing the other day saying she liked how the songs were all over the place? Do you have a final girl song? Mine is Spring is Here by Nina Simone. The song starts as the credits start to roll. And I didn‘t survive but the end of the movie is watching my blood drip down onto the floor after I die having killed the crazy murderer. Lol 4y
vivastory My final girl song is Nick Cave/PJ Harvey's Henry Lee. I barely survive my confrontation with the serial killer, but soon after randomly die (trigger happy cop, ambulance is in accident, etc) 4y
Reggie @vivastory because you said ambulance, I just pictured Dan Akroyd turning around as he drives you away in the ambulance he asks if you want to see something really scary. And then that song The Midnight Special comes on.(Twilight Zone movie reference) Lol but I like your song l, it has that Quentin Tarantino-esqe vibe to it. 4y
Suet624 Golly... I was really so-so about this one. Now I feel as if I must have a very cold heart. The audio was good but I just don‘t do well with fiction on audio. Like @vivastory I mostly listen to non-fiction on audio. 4y

Trigger warning: sexual abuse. I listened to this book which is done by a full cast and I think it really added to the story. It is told in alternating chapters by Sadie and a podcast host of a true-crime podcast investigating her disappearance. Sadie takes off after her sister is murdered in search of the man she thinks killed her. If you listen to true crime podcasts those chapters hit all the tropes of that genre. #audiobook
