pickA beautiful but sad story about this couple who lost contact during the war. They will meet again but in special circumstances and you will see that encounter in the first chapter. Then, the story goes to the past to know how Lanka and Josef met and what happened to them. It is emotionally intense. Reading about Prague and Terezin made me remind my visit to those places a couple of years ago. 4⭐️
In my old age, I have come to believe that love is not a noun but a verb. An action. Like water, it flows to its own current. If you were to corner it in a dam, true love is so bountiful it would flow over. Even in separation, even in death, it moves and changes. It lives within memory, in the haunting of a touch, the transience of a smell, or the nuance of a sigh. 👇🏻

pickIt doesn‘t seem right to describe a book set partially in Terezin and describing the horrors of the Holocaust as gentle, yet that is the best descriptor of the love story that is at the heart of this novel. Beautifully written, it doesn‘t gloss over the inhumane situation, but guides you through without allowing you to turn away. Highly recommend. Picture is a drawing of Prague that hangs on our wall; you‘ll understand why I chose it if you read.

I couldn‘t spend the weekend at my son and DIL‘s and not borrow a book from their library. I haven‘t read an Alyson Richman in a while, plus Prague! You all know how I feel about that city. 😊 I looked at the cover and knew exactly where this is.

pickI missed a satisfying conclusion: the beginning of the book revealed the answer, but I had hoped the ending would hold more. Sadly, it did not. And the writing style makes it hard getting into to the book, as a love story it failed with deepness and engagement. But still - a good book!

I thought of Lenka and Josef for this prompt... They fell in love, married and were then torn apart by the Nazi invasion... Josef believes Lenka died in the war, but then a chance encounter decades later gives them one more chance... I cried like a baby!! 😭😭😭
Simultaneously, I can‘t put this book down and it‘s hard for me to read as Lenka or Josef could be my grandparents.
I‘m going to need a light, fun and easy read to get over this one. Any suggestions?
