“There are people we come across during our lives who, after they drift out of our worlds, drift out for good. Even if we see them again, it‘s a quick, meaningless hi and how are you? There are other people, though, with whom things pick up right where the relationship left off, whenever we run into them. The level of comfort — it feels like no time has passed.”
“What I wanted to tell you is that there are lots of ways to love people and I know that you‘ll love someone else again. Even if it‘s not the same, some of it might be better.
“‘I don‘t want to,‘ I whispered. I wanted to love only you. And I couldn‘t imagine anything could be better than that.”
Jill Santopolo ripping my heart out over here 🥺😭💔
“There‘s something about death that makes people want to live.”
“You taught me to look for beauty. In darkness, in destruction, you always found light.
“I don‘t know what beauty I‘ll find here, what light. But I‘ll try. I‘ll do it for you. Because I know you would do it for me.”
“I don‘t think the world works that way,” I said. “I think life is just life. We‘re put in situations and we make choices and that‘s why things happen the way they do. Taking the current when it serves.”

fucking sad as hell. was not expecting that ending at all. 💔
My book club meets later this week to discuss this one & I‘m really looking forward to hearing what they all thought of it! Lucy‘s story is definitely an engaging one- I listened to the whole thing in under a day, eager to see how it all unfolded. But I didn‘t always agree with Lucy‘s choices and while I definitely felt absorbed into the story, I couldn‘t really root for the romance. The ending is too open for my taste… it‘ll be fun to talk about!
“Sometimes I got this feeling that we‘d never be close enough. I wanted to climb inside your skin, inside your mind, so I could know all there was to know about you.” 😓

Worthy of the ugly cry 😭
It was a meh for me. Slow begining (understood that love lost due to life direction change is time consuming but did it need so many chapters to establish) a book of moral challenge for sure. The end was a "are you serious" LoL for some to have made it to the attention it did just was not an all star for me

Boo. I don‘t think I‘ve ever read something I disliked so much so fast. Cliché. Annoying main character. Woof-worthy ending. Maybe I have a black heart or have never known love but goo this one was not for me.
I just can't get into this. Channeling my inner snow queen and #letitgo. I don't care about any of these characters. Not sure what my problem is. This is bail # 2 this month. And I never bail.

The Light We Lost is a thoughtful narrative of a relationship between two people. It is written in the second person, directed toward the romantic interest. Definitely a very fast read- I was dying to find out what happens.
How can it be the eve of Wednesday again🧐🤪!?!
I hope and pray you are happy, healthy, and inspired 🧡
1* This book tore my heart out in every good way 😭
2* @SarahBradley gave me these bookish pumpkins - aren‘t they fun!?

I really loved this book. A quick read, or listen, rather. You‘re really sucked in to Lucy‘s character as she addresses the “you” her love Gabe. Great pacing, and decent plot twists, even if some were predictable. The characters felt like such real people. I will read more from Jill Santopolo!
This card deals with choices and weighing our options. I pretty quickly thought of this book which forced the protagonist to choose between two lives and two loves. I loved this book, it really wrecked me. I‘m talking trying to hide an ugly cry on a crowded NYC subway while reading the conclusion on my way to work. Remember crowds? Anyway...I highly recommend this book if you want to go through every emotion in your arsenal. Loving this challenge!

The husband who is there for you every day, a co-parent, a Godsend, a best friend. VS the man who lit your heart on fire and will always be under your skin but is physically inaccessible...
Sad but relatable
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 I LOVED this book! It was romantic and heartbreaking at the same time. If you‘ve been through a soul-crushing breakup, this book will bring you right back to that place. I also have a deep love for short chapters. Highly recommend.

This book wrecked me 😭in the most amazing way. I will never forget it🥰
Book 36 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Imagine loving someone so much and let the person go so they can reach their dreams even though your heart is getting broken in the process. Going through a lot and finding someone else who came to put your pieces together and feeling like something is missing is hard. Life goes on in different ways but somehow your first love always comes to you. Everything happens for a reason but not knowing the explanation hurts the most.
This one railroaded me. Like the road runner who‘s legs are still moving but he is over a cliff. I felt every emotion from joy to utter heartbreak. What a beautifully haunting experience.
"I hope you find a love like that–one that is all-consuming and powerful that makes you feel like you're going slightly mad. And if you do find that love, embrace it. Hold onto it. When you give yourself over to love like that, your heart will get bruised. It will get battered. But you will also feel invincible and infinite."
I‘ve come to the inescapable conclusion that Reese and I do not see eye to eye on books—this definitely makes me the odd one out in my circle of friends. Nothing about this one worked for me—from the writing and the story to the characters and while I know I was supposed to care deeply about the love story, I just didn‘t. So for the second time in a week, I really, really didn‘t like a book. Not a fan and I can‘t recommend this book.
This is the last of the seven books my friends and I picked for our book/reading retreat that I haven‘t read so it‘s next. After this one, I‘ll reread the other four and be good to go. Now reading and taking notes!
I finished this one yesterday, but I had to sit with it for awhile. It was a good story. The writing was great. I think I was supposed to like the love story though. But I didn‘t. I really didn‘t like Lucy. Her decisions weren‘t the best. Can you like a book when you hate the main character and the decisions she made? I think I did. Maybe.
I started this one last night. It‘s hard to put down.
Time on the clock 16:10. Probably not going to make 24, but I‘m squeezing in more time than I expected.

Easy and quick read. Surprise ending. Sweet story. I really enjoyed this one.
I can relate so much! Especially as I am now on Maternity leave awaiting the arrival of our new bubba. So many thoughts about how this will play out...
I picked this book up for a light-hearted read. Turns out it has loads of beautiful@passages that make you pause and reflect on your own experiences. A beautiful surprise 😊

Lucy and Gabe are soulmates, who share the tragedy of witnessing 9/11 together. They experience a first, electrifying love, but their career paths separate them geographically. Star-crossed lovers? Fate?Choice? Gabe goes to photograph the war torn Middle East while Lucy eventually remains in NYC & marries. The thread that binds them is sporadic, fragile, but never quite broken. This book is Lucy‘s goodbye to Gabe.
🎶Cause you're the one I crave
And my cravings get dangerous
The feelings never fade
I don't think we should play with this🎶
Gabe and Lucy are irresistible to each other. Careers separate them geographically, but they must find a way...
This is a powerful, passionate, and deeply resonating story 😭 (ugly cry)

Eh. This was just okay. I couldn‘t really connect with Lucy, and found all of them to be selfish. Because of this I didn‘t feel invested, and in turn did not find it emotional (and I love a good tearjerker).
Oh so good. The paths less traveled and those we only wish we traveled. A uniquely beatiful way to write about love between two people...and how that love defined every love looking forward.
