I'm really enjoying this book about a small-town Texas teenager - fat, gay, and ginger - who's discovering drag. I especially like sibling relationship stories, and his close but not without its troubles relationship with his twin sister rings true.

This is a touching young adult fiction story about a boy who has come out as gay living in a small Texas town with his family. He gets made fun of by many kids at school but learns to overcome the troubles head-on. He begins to be his true self and not worry about what his small town thinks of him. When doing so he learns how happy he is and that he can be successful no matter who he is. Whippoorwill book award winner, published in 2021.

Published in 2021. This is a fiction chapter book that follows a young openly gay boy in Texas. He plans to graduate and then show his true colors in the life he wants to live. I think this is a great story for older students to read to show them that they can be whoever they want to be at whatever age. This story won the Whipporwill Award.

This book is every bit as endearing and heartwarming as the first two books in this series. You don‘t need to have read the prequels in order to enjoy this one, but I did appreciate that the finale offers a peek at the previous two couples and how they‘re doing now.

I highly recommend listening to the audiobook version, it is narrated by Chad Burris and he makes it so engaging and fun. I didn't read Dumplin but watched the Netflix movie and both stories translate well beyond the YA crowd. So many quotable parts!

I swear, these books are so feel-good, funny, & addictive it's unbelievable! Filled with teen angst & coupled with hope, this is the high school experience you wish you'd had!

I feel like I spent so much of 2021 in and out of this audiobook because I was having trouble focusing on audio so often—let alone fiction in audio. But I finished it up in 2022 and am hoping to continue working through my board of titles.

So good to be back in Clover City. While primary characters from earlier in this series are present subtle sub characters in Pumpkin, their willingness to stand up for each other is phenomenal. I loved the tasks associated with nominees, and wonder if most school require them to show appreciation towards their school, staff & fellow students at like this. Just reinforces that nominations aren't so freely given, but earned.

Fat, gay Texas teen Waylon makes a drag video inspired by a favorite tv show which gets leaked to the whole school and suddenly he finds himself in the running from prom queen. Not only is this a lot of fun, with great queer characters, but it reinforces the message that our insecurities shouldn‘t define us and in fact are not necessarily how we are seen by others.
