Slave to Sensation
Slave to Sensation | Nalini Singh
THE FIRST PSY/CHANGELING NOVEL from the New York Times bestselling author of Shards of Hope, Shield of Winter, and Heart of Obsidian...The book that Christine Feehan called "a must-read for all of my fans."In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of rehabilitationthe complete psychic erasure of everything she ever wasBoth human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passionand that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identitiesor sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation

The shifter changelings and cerebral Psy despise each other, but when a suspected Psy serial killer targets changeling women, a changeling alpha needs to find a way to get inside the world of the Psy.

Good world-building, especially for the Psy part of the world. 🔥romance. The mystery was a bit light as Singh concentrated more on the world-building and the romance. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

Humanity has divided into humans, the Psy (those with mental abilities like telepathy, telekinesis) and Changelings (were/shifters) and the differences are becoming more pronounced as prejudices run deep. Changelings crave nature, but are seen as animalistic, while the Psy retreat to their inner unemotional world… but in this world a serial killer is hunting, and both sides must decide if they can trust each other enough to find him. ⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I quite enjoyed this one, enough Paranormal Romance for me, but with some great world-building to satisfy my fantasy/sci-fi tendencies. After Singh‘s Guild Hunters series with its unique spin on angels and vampires, I wasn‘t quite sure she could pull off another intricate multi-layered world, but she does, and if this series is anything like the other I expect it to get better and more fleshed out with each book. 4y

It‘s a world of humans, psys and changelings,Sasha(Psy) starts working with Lucas(changeling) on a housing development. Psys are supposed to be cold and calculating, any feelings they may have mark them as damaged.Sasha has to hide the flaws of her mind, but she can‘t help be drawn to Lucas. Lucas is interested in working with the Spy because he wants to catch a murderer. What they discover is a bigger conspiracy.

Time for a romance series! This is one of my favorite paranormal series and at 19 books is still going strong. I was not going to put all 19 covers on this graphic, so I tagged the first book and put the most recent book's cover on the graphic.

Finished this audiobook on our walk this evening. Singh has created such a unique world with this series. I love the concept of the Psy and watching these characters start to feel. My favorite pairings are the Psy with the Changelings, like this book. Looking forward to continuing my re-read through audiobook. #audiowalking #romantsy

Listened to this one on audio early October. I have heard such amazing things about this author but haven't gotten around to reading any of her books. I may have enjoyed this more if I read it instead of listening to it. I liked the story. But the reader made all the characters sound flat. I know Sascha was supposed to sound that way as she was Psy, but not Lucas, who was a Changeling. That annoyed me a bit listening to the audio of this one.

As a teen, I read big authors and loved them, like Christine Feehan, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and JK Rowling. In my 20s, all three of them (at least to me) have tried to single handedly ruin their franchises. So, I've stayed away from big time authors in fear of heartbreak around book 15 or so. But I'm going back today. Here's hoping!!

HOTPock3tt The kiss quotient author Helen Hoang recommended this book in a podcast! ☺️ She said it was one of her faves growing up... so I was a bit curious. Might try this out too. 6y
theresidentromantic @HOTPock3tt And one of my new authors, Talia Halibert recommended both Helen Hoang and this series, lol! I have Hoang's books on hold lists with the library. 6y
HOTPock3tt @theresidentromantic “The kiss Quotient” is amazing!! Well written & sexy. I didn‘t like “The bride test” quite as much, but it was still really good. Both have characters you can‘t help but want to know more about. Hoang‘s books are definitely worth checking out 😎 (edited) 6y

theresidentromantic @HOTPock3tt That's good to know!! I really like out of the box characters, the summary for the kiss quotient reminded me a lot of the main herione for simple faith, a book from my favorite author. 6y
theresidentromantic @CoverToCoverGirl Have you read these? This book is on 🔥🔥🔥 I'm obsessed already and I've only been listening for half the work day. 6y
CoverToCoverGirl No I‘ve never listened to or read anything by this author... checking it out now though. 6y
CoverToCoverGirl It‘s read by the same person that did The MacKenzie series ❤️❤️❤️ adding it to my wants on audible, thanks for the recommendation! 😁. The whole premise sounds very good. 6y
CoverToCoverGirl Whoa.. 17 books in this series 😳😉 6y

This wasn't the most original story I've ever read, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I did't like the male main character at all, or at least not in context of the relationship of the protagonists. However, I think, especially people that are into erotic romance, will have a good time reading this book.
🌟🌟🌟 3/5

Thank you again @LittleBug for giving me this book! I think in future I won't completely avoid the romance section anymore.

I mostly listened this one, and the narration was good, but this series just isn't for me. I love a fictional (emphasis on fictional) alpha male, but I never really got into the romance. I dug the serial killer subplot, but it's not well fleshed out and the ending to it is super abrupt and secondhand. It was a quick read, but I won't be continuing with the series.

Lauren_reading Sorry it wasn‘t for you, this is one of my favorite series ever (but it‘s been a LONG time since I read this one) Have you tried her new contemporary romances? I liked those too. 6y
Jas16 Good to know. I will continue to put starting this series off. 6y
GlassAsDiamonds Accurate review I think, unfortunately! I found the latter books in the series *much* better. I‘m a fan of her Guildhunter series and somehow ended up with some of the novellas for this one by attrition. They‘re great but later in the timeline. These early books are *painful* for the changelings but the character development through the series is amazing. @Jas16 - ditto! Maybe start with the novellas? @LaurenReads - Singh FTW? 😊♥️😊 6y

Paranormal romances are not generally my bag (for various reasons) so I'd never tried Nalini Singh (also not a fan of the title). But @Amanda pitched it on Get Booked and did a way better job than the blurb. This is good, the world is interesting, maybe too plotty since a Book 1 but I'll read more.
