Fourth Wing | Rebecca Yarros

I've been doing much #audiocooking at this trip. I am listening to Part 1 of the dramatization of The Fourth Wing. I feel like I'm listening to an epic soap opera.

Today's breakfast: my version of healthy chilaquiles.

TieDyeDude Ooo, that looks yummy! It's cool that they did a full cast recording for that book. 22h

I was gonna keep A GATHERING OF SHADOWS as strictly audio so I could dive into a library book next, but it‘s no good. I love it so much I‘ve gotta alternate between audio and print. Really stay in the narrative all day long.

Cooking jackfruit recipe #3 took me to 48%. This one used a sauce with lots of sour notes, and it was a better fit than the spicy or sweet ones. Still, I don‘t think jackfruit‘ll become a go-to for me. #audiocooking

Aimeesue I like jackfruit, but only if it‘s been dried out a bit before it‘s sauced. Definitely a textural thing for me. Needs a slosh of dehydrating. 4mo
Lindy I read your post with interest because I‘m a fan of jackfruit dishes encountered in restaurants but I haven‘t tried cooking with it myself. 4mo
xicanti @Aimeesue I gave this round a good pay-down with some paper towels before I cooked it, and it did seem to make a difference. 4mo

xicanti @Lindy I got a few packages of shredded jackfruit on clearance and I‘ve been playing around with it, looking for a sauce that works for me. Cooking it is fairly simple, but I‘ve found its natural sourness and veggie texture make it more its own thing than the meat substitute it gets billed as. 4mo
humouress The standard in my extended family is jackfruit curry. I could take it or leave it but some people love it. 4mo
Ruthiella I‘ve only had jackfruit with black beans in a soft taco or burrito, which was delicious. 4mo
xicanti @humouress I did come across some interesting jackfruit curry recipes, but they all used coconut milk and it‘s currently pretty expensive here. I might give one a try if it goes on sale before my jackfruit supply runs out, though. 4mo
xicanti @Ruthiella I‘ll look around for jackfruit & black bean recipes! 4mo

So my day consisted of running some errands, cooking a fabulous clam linguine for lunch & a huge pot of veggie soup for dinner. All the while listening to my #Libby audiobook, I almost got through 50%!! What a fantastic day off today after a crazy busy day yesterday at work. Plus peep my sleepy babies in the top right corner. Oliver (orange) & Luna (black).

Audio cooking today! It‘s my day off work today so, even though it‘s warmer today than it has been recently, I‘m making homemade chili! My husband has been begging me to make it since the first sign of fall was in the air.
I really like this audio book so far but have had a little trouble keeping up with the multiple characters since they aren‘t separated by chapters.

#audiocooking Sometimes you just need stuffed shells and nothing else will do, amirite?
I really like YA audiobooks because the storylines tend to be easy to follow while I'm doing stuff, and this time of year I got a lotta things to do, starting the holiday gifts and whatnot.
This book reminds me a little of The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina in that both matriarchs are tied fiercely to the land around their homes.

AnnR That looks so yummy! 1y
Ruthiella Yum! 😋 1y
jlhammar Love stuffed shells. Those look amazing! 1y
Aimeesue @Ann_Reads @Ruthiella @jhammar I make stuffed shells about once a decade. But now I have tons of them! 😂 (edited) 1y

BLACK PANTHER: TALES OF WAKANDA | Tananarive Due, Nikki Giovanni, Cadwell Turnbull, Sheree Thomas

I listened to some more of the tagged anthology while I made a couple freezer meals to use up some beef. It‘s… not what I hoped for. A third of the way through, the majority of the contributors are deeply concerned with using Wakanda to discuss America. I can understand that impulse, and the value in it, and I appreciate the ways they also interrogate Wakanda‘s isolationism, but—yeah. I‘d prefer more chances to explore WAKANDA. #audiocooking

The Queen's Gambit | Walter Tevis
post image

Did some #audiocooking. I‘m a bit divided on THE QUEEN‘S GAMBIT. I find it fascinating as a sports story and it‘s been interesting to see how it compares to the show, but I‘m not a fan of Walter Tevis‘s contraction-free narrative. (He does use contractions in his dialogue.) It‘s choppy and stilted to my ear, and the narrator‘s delivery doesn‘t help. I think maybe she and I both have the wrong accent for what Tevis hears in his head as he writes.
