Not quite half way through. The plot is off the rails, but I do want to know what happened to Anna (Sophie?) and how Gretchen is involved. I don‘t think I will like it.

Anna McDonald,a “trophy wife”is married with two young daughters. She is a fan of true crime podcasts. One morning,a knock at the door turns her life upside down. True crime and podcasts define her new chapter. So much going on that at times,I was a bit confused.A reviewer called it “madcap”and that helped me settle in to it.There are gangsters, the rich and famous,an anorexic has been rockstar, footballers,a yacht explosion, and more! Fast paced!
Current audiobook. Can‘t remember why I had this book on my list??? #reesesbookclub
This cover always scared me away for some reason. This was the right amount of off kilter and funny. I really loved it.
I think this is a pun 🤔
Anna is in hiding as a suburban housewife, and all in one day finds out her husband is leaving her, her whereabouts are outed, and that she may actually have information related to a cold case on her latest true crime podcast. So she goes on the run to investigate with a rock star.
Get it? She has convictions about a conviction?
You‘re welcome, #littensdressedinblood
This book was very “eh”. Parts of it were really interesting but other parts were boring and random. And the ending came out of nowhere. But it was kinda fun and did make me feel a real emotion occasionally.
"That could only mean one thing: I was going to have to write this fucking book."
⭐️⭐️ Oops, I forgot to review this one. I‘ve already brain dumped most of it so that should tell you something. The writing itself, and the audio narration, are both quite good, but the story is a big ol‘ mess. Way too much going on and I cared about exactly none of it.
🎧👟 Between walking the pup and walking for exercise, I got in 6 miles today + lots of listening. Finished one read then started the tagged book. Not sure what to think yet.

I came within one prompt of finishing #booked2019, so I‘m staying on trend with #booked2020, and I‘m just not going to do the tartan noir. Not feeling it. But thank you for being wonderful hosts @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft 💜💜💜
I‘m still trying to decide how I want to challenge myself intellectually next year, given that I stay home a lot. I think it‘s going to be math, but we‘ll see!

Did I understand how this mystery ended? Not really. But it was a fun audiobook to listen to between all the nonfiction I‘ve been reading this month. The narrator was great.
Listening to a podcast and you know someone in one? This happens to Anna and her whole world explodes in one day. Fast read. Loved how the author took a scary scenario in any person‘s past and described it in a way that makes you think but doesn‘t use graphics to replay a terrible happening. Maybe she couldn‘t have really solved a mystery this fast but it still is written in a perfect believable way.
I wanted to like this one and thought I would because of the podcast element in the plot, but it just didn‘t work for me. I didn‘t like the main character, the mix of stream of conscious and action didn‘t flow, and it was too far fetched with a buildup that didn‘t pay off in the end. Pass on this one.
I loved the premise - listening to a True Crime podcast Anna recognises the characters involved & it brings her traumatic past, which she'd been running/ hiding from for the past decade, back in to focus. Some very insightful and poignant sentences around violent against women, trauma, memory and being a survivor. I didn't though love the plot - at times if felt like I was inside an outtake of a James Bond movie - it felt a bit remote and cold.
I was so enjoying this one — clever plot set up, fun characters — but the ending left so many plot holes, I just can not. 😧 #ARC
I don‘t know what it was about this book that I didn‘t connect with but something felt off with this one
My empty bookshelves! 😔 All the books are packed up, they‘re ready to go...
So thankful the library is reopened so I still have reading material! The plot in Conviction was pretty far-fetched and unbelievable, but it was still a page turner that I truly enjoyed. I feel like I‘m slowly coming out of the summer-long reading slump!
And it‘s my last prompt for Spring #booked2020 #tartannoir 🎉🎉
I did notice, and I appreciate it when authors don‘t ignore things like this!
There is a lot that is far fetched about this story, but I‘m in the mood where that doesn‘t bother me in the slightest.
I was annoyed about all of this country hopping without sleeping for days on end. 🤣
I don‘t get rattled easily when reading books. But, this chapter about the dive footage of the wreck, and what happens to the diver, and the way it is narrated? 😲😲
I‘m glad this is fiction.
I‘m trying desperately to bring back my daily morning tea time with a book. Attempting to do it this week during Maya‘s homebase Zoom, after getting up early to squeeze in 1 1/2 hrs of working before the rest of the household is up. 😴🥱
And finally tackling #tartannoir, my last remaining Spring 2020 prompt before I am fully caught up for #Booked2020!

I thought this was clever, sometimes scary but most of all, a great page-turning mystery/thriller. My second book I‘ve read by Denise Mina. I think she does a great job and will read more of hers. As an unreliable narrator, I liked the protagonist a lot.
Every time I get ready to start a new book I pick 3 options and read the book descriptions to my husband. This is the one he picked for me to read next. Other options were The Comeback and My Dark Vanessa
Oh Reese, normally I find that you have pretty good taste but I am utterly baffled by the praise for this. It started out promisingly enough and then devolved into a hot mess. It felt like the author had plot outlines for 5 different books and just decided to incorporate them all. I thought it was genuinely terrible.
I enjoyed this, although what makes it intriguing--the MC not being a "detective" but someone who stumbles across a death through a "true crime" podcast whose chapters alternate with the story narrative--also made it a bit difficult to follow. Lots of strong female characters.
My #tartannoir pick for #Booked2020
@Cinfhen
A fresh, modern crime novel with a great protagonist and a writing that‘s a cut above most crime fiction. Anna the protagonist is a strong, flawed woman and I enjoyed her odd couple trip with Fin to investigate the Dana yacht murders. The true crime podcast storyline is well done & of the moment. Last sections were far fetched but it would be great on screen & to discuss at book club.
Conviction is about a woman who‘s husband leaves her. She has a secret past that gets revealed when Fin, the husband of the woman who stole her husband, comes to see her. This woman, Anna, is addicted to true crime podcasts and her current one is about someone she used to know. Anna and Fin go on an epic adventure to solve the crime in the podcast. Oh. My. God. I love this book. 💛💛💛💛💛
I liked it. Unreliable narrator, double lives, double mysteries. Anna is a wife and mother who loves true crime podcasts and books. While distracting herself by listening to a podcast the day her husband leaves her, she realizes it's a story about a man she once knew. She sets off looking into the mystery of his death when her past starts to catch back up with her. This time it she may not survive. I thought it was fun, despite figuring it out.
I found the main character to be incredibly abrasive and unlikable but the story kept me interested.
This is probably the worst book I have read in awhile. Unrealistic story, woman just finds out her husband is leaving her for her friend and her reaction is oh let‘s get really involved with a podcast that happens to connect with her life! So many layers of bad writing added and a confusing ending.
This one is great so far, and I‘m loving the narrator‘s Scottish brogue.
Making some progress 🎧🎨📚
It took a lot to get me passed the beginning of the book. It does get better as it goes along, but the biggest problem for me was the main character was very unlikeable to the point where it‘s hard to feel sympathy for her even when you should.
I was excited about this book initially. A woman whose husband has just left her and taken her 2 kids with him is listening to a true crime podcast and finds she knows one of the victims. She investigates (what else is she going to, right?). The middle got murky for me and by the big reveal I didn‘t really care who did what anymore. It was just meh for me.
I‘m a big fan of Denise Mina and have been reading her for years. I was, however disappointed in Conviction. It recounts implosion of two marriages, and the aftermath. I found Anna and Fin somewhat two-dimensional characters, even when presented by their back stories. The road trip and the lurking villains were pretty dull. I missed Mina‘s Glaswegian voice. There are far better options in her back list. Bring back “tartan noir!”
I couldn‘t sleep and woke up really early this morning. I realized my hold (placed Dec 3) for this finally came in from the library.
I‘d say - since I‘m already on chapter 5 - it was worth waiting for.

For the most part, this book was compelling, and at times a tad heart pounding for me (I‘m #TeamSqueamish , so I scare/thrill easily). But, by the end I felt very underwhelmed. It left me feeling meh. Still, this was a terrific distraction from a fast paced week. A little late for the January prompt, but I had this slayed for my #1WordTitle for #ReadWithMrBook .
The calm before another crazy day storm. What started off as an odd beginning has quickly hooked me. For some reason, I seem to like unreliable narrators...
The boys are soaking up some cuddle time before our day starts. #Zeke #Vladimir #SebastianKitty #catsoflitsy
What do you feel when you find typos in books? I‘m talking completed, hard cover published books. It drives me NUTS and usually ruins a book for me.

Has anyone read any other Denise Mina? If so, where should I start? #currentlyreading
