gossamerchild Why is Mort so annoying to me? Is it just a symptom of age that I found myself sympathizing more with Death? 6y
dariazeoli Death and the cat! 😁 I felt for Mort getting miffed when he wasn‘t called by his name. And Rincewind reappears! (Let‘s pretend I didn‘t edit this comment 5 times. Is it just me or are the touchscreen keyboards getting harder to use?) (edited) 6y
Soubhiville I love Death! I was a little sad that there wasn‘t more focus on Death in this one. But yes, I love the “cats are nice” quote! @dariazeoli It was nice to have the introduction to what Death‘s home and life are like. It just left me wanting more! 6y
BarbaraJean @Soubhiville @dariazeoli Yes—the cats!! My favorite was the line in the job interview, where we discover that Death‘s preferred employment is “something nice working with cats or flowers.” 😂 6y
Chrys I really enjoyed this, I love the character Death, and poor Mort never being called by name. I was also absurdly happy with Rincewind‘s cameo. Oh, and that the horse‘s name was Binky (edited) 6y
Craftylikefox I think I am of unpopular opinion. I enjoyed this one but this wouldn‘t be one of my top favorites. I like Death. I love his relationship with cats. Mort is okay. I felt bad for Mort most of the time. 6y
gossamerchild @Craftylikefox as a reread, I'd agree with you. I think I liked it more the first time. Death is definitely my favorite character, though I do feel bad for his adopted daughter. I would hate being stuck at age 16 for 35 years 🤣 6y
jmtrivera This was the first Discworld I ever read, and I've loved it every time! 6y
hgrimes I read this just a couple months ago and it was my intro to Discworld. It had me laughing my ass off, and Death instantly became one of my all-time favorite literary characters. I love the dark and absurdist humor, the characters, and the inventiveness of Death‘s world and occupation. Still my favorite so far! 6y
julesG DEATH is the best! One of my favourite DW characters, not oy because he loves cats and speaks in caps. 😁 6y
Moray_Reads Death is fantastic and Mort does have a special place in my heart as the first Discworld I read. I always enjoy it but like the other earlier stories I realise when I read it that it's still not quite THERE. Which is a good thing, it means they just get better and better! 6y
khooliha Just finished this one up and I still think this is the series finally finding its feet. I do wish the book spent a little more time with Ysabell, since she ends up pretty important in the last third. Honestly, this reread had me feeling the characters ages, especially Keli. They're a frustrating crop of teens sometimes! Oh, and add Cutwell to the "young wizard" list that these early books have been studiously putting together. 6y
khooliha Also, congrats to Rincewind for saving wizard academia and not even getting that close to dying! 6y
Laura317 My favorite bit was the interview Death did for a job. That was adorable. Yes. Death is adorable. I liked Cutwell and his door knocker, too. I can see where TP‘s writing is getting better and better! #Ookbookclub 6y
Dorianna @Laura317 Death is absolutely adorable. His interview was one of my favorite parts. 6y
Gezemice I am just getting back to reading, Mort is a favorite, will re-read next 6y
