Random House started out by acquiring The Modern Library, so it seems appropriate to picture this memoir alongside my ML collection. I enjoyed Cerf‘s meandering reminiscences and the advantage of knowing which of his authors is still read and which not doesn‘t detract a bit. His humor isn‘t mean, even when “telling tales” on famous people, and it was a dose of lightheartedness I very much needed. And #letterA for #LitsyAtoZ & #doublrspin.

TheBookHippie I always get excited when I see them in thrift stores 🙃 11h

A very soft pick for this one. The main character is typically flawed but likeable, and the plot develops well, until the end, which seems rather sudden, with the case being solved rather suddenly and far too neatly.

Lucy arrives in Oxford for a visit with her beloved grandmother, only to find that the old woman has died and left her knitting shop to her. But Lucy knows nothing about running a business and can‘t knit! Within a few days, she learns that there‘s a vampire knitting club at the shop, her grandmother didn‘t die of natural causes, a family secret, and she‘s now in danger. Really enjoyed this one!

Delightful, cozy and sweet.
Friendships, fist-loves, and conquering evil in the most unexpected ways.
Baldree has stolen my heart through Viv and here friends, I can't wait for the next book.

I was not sure what to expect when I started listening to this (thanks to Libro.fm for the ALC opportunity), but this story is more somber than the cover suggests. It‘s very contemplative but yet also offers hope for new beginnings (hence the title). The audio narration is engaging, and I enjoyed listening to this while doing household chores and preparing kitty medicine. #52BookClub25 #AuthorsLastNameIsAlsoAFirstName #LitsyAToZ #LetterN

This has been on my tbr forever, and I am so glad the #HashtagBrigade read it, though I‘m pretty late finishing the book for the group.

This is a hard story to rate, as Esther‘s story is parts disturbing and hard to read. Knowing Plath‘s state of mind too adds to backstory of this mental health novel. It‘s not supposed to make one comfortable. Glad I read it! #192025 #1963 #LitsyAToZ #LetterB

A rich Brit hires Leo, an unlikely detective who started a website when his girlfriend went missing, to find his long lost daughter. She‘s drawn some money from her trust while in Kathmandu, so that‘s where Leo goes first. The first half of this book is well written and plotted. It goes to heck when the typos start and keep coming, and the writing deteriorates. On the one hand, the descriptions of #Nepal are excellent—the author is well- ⬇️

Texreader traveled and it shows. On the other hand, the daughter‘s charitable work is just dropped as if it were the least important part of her life—which makes no sense to the storyline, and the same is true for the dropped storyline about Leo‘s missing girlfriend. It‘s like the author plane forgot what he was writing about. For a strong start and a lackluster ending, this is barely a pick. #foodandlit @Catsandbooks #letterK #litsyatoz (edited) 5d
