Finished my first book for the #springcleaningreadathon and I loved it! A birthday present from @bookish_wookish it's a retelling of The Little Mermaid, the original bloody HCA story, as a modern magical realism story involving opera, composers, singers & Ireland. It was beautifully told & I found myself tearing through the last few chapters to find out the ending, which was perfect! For lovers of mermaids, Garden Spells & Practical Magic.⚓️🐳🐚

Lizpixie Oh, and this is my #LRC19 #LGBTQlove for the #LitsyReadingChallenge 7y
bookish_wookish So glad you liked it! I may have to read it too! 7y
BibliophileMomma I've been wanting to read this! 7y

My next read is this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid (the original dark version by HCA) which was a birthday gift from @bookish_wookish Kathleen is a soprano who's been plagued by stabbing pains in her feet, which only seawater helps soothe since she was a child. After a breakdown, her girlfriend Harry takes her to Ireland to investigate her family history for a cure. My #LRC19 #LGBTQlove book for #LitsyReadingChallenge

Laalaleighh My bf surprised me with this one in March! Can't wait to see what you think of it! 7y
DebinHawaii I liked this one--different but good! 👍📚 7y

I picked this book up just to flip through, but the bizarre world shrinking made me wonder how it ended. It is not a book I would normally choose, but once reading it I realized it would check off a few more challenge tasks for which I had not yet chosen a book (LGBTQ relationship and YA by LGBTQ author).

* This is a mature YA with diverse characters that also deserves trigger warnings.

If you want to read a detective story where all the characters are neat and tidy, do not read this book. If you want to read a story with characters that read true from all walks of life dealing with the reality of hopes and dreams (past and present), read this book. #lrc19 #LBGTQrelationship The LBGTQ relationship in her books just are part of the community; healthy, loving and beautiful; but is more poignant in her first book, Still Life.

found this while reading Sundance movie reviews. it was getting raves so i read the book for #LRC19 (LGBTQ relationship). coming of age/summer romance set in Italy. not what I expected. Intelligent/passionate/obsessive, a very universal first love kind of story. uniquely poetic/somewhat explicit at times. Vanity Fair calls it a gay modern classic :) the movie has Armie Hammer and i'm really looking forward to it 😍#DiverseLoveStories #feistyfeb

ReadingEnvy I read and loved his short stories in December and want to read this too! 7y
wonga @readingenvy was that Enigma something? i love short stories! (edited) 7y

Looking for ideas for this category in the #litsyreadingchallenge!

What's the best book you've read with an LGBTQ relationship? My fave would have to be Fingersmith, although Song of Achilles is up there too.

#LGBTQlove #LRC19

EclecticReaders We read "Simon vs..." back in December 2015 and we all loved it! 7y
Larkken This one's a fantasy : 7y

Marchpane @Abby-J @Ebooksandcooks @Shvonne these are all new to me and look amazing! Stacked them all! 😊 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Caring so much for the lesbian and trans characters in this book opened up my rural Southern mind. 7y
bookdrunkard78 I liked Two Boys Kissing, I think David Levithan is pretty great. I heard so many good things about Aristotle and Dante, so that's what I chose for the challenge. I also liked Beyond Magenta, but that's non-fiction, still, quite eye opening 7y
mostlycatsandcoffee Oh yes, Song of Achilles and also Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe! 7y
aeeklund This book is absolutely beautiful and, though magical realism, rings with the truths of the author's own experiences. 7y
Yellowpigeon It's light and fluffy, sometimes we need that. 7y
prowlix I am adding a vote for Tipping The Velvet and Aristotle and Dante! They are so great! I'm also adding Giovanni's Room to the list which is pretty heartbreaking but beautiful 7y
queerbookreader Do graphic novels count? If so 7y
Marchpane @lemonlime799 that looks AMAZING. Is it a standalone? 7y
