Finished tagged for book group. Narrator‘s brother breaks out of jail. Narrator, father, and sister pile into an Airstream and go looking for him. The faith of their father is a strong undercurrent in the story.

Real Men Knit was a bonus this week, thanks to Libby. Set a story in a yarn shop, and I‘ll read it.

Not a bad time! I finished 3 of the 7 books I was working on and I think this is my best #24b4monday time yet

This is not my “typical read” and had I read a summary by myself, I probably would have turned it down. A friend read it and said she enjoyed it so I decided to give it a go.

The characters in this well were thought out and “quirky” but not obnoxiously so. The prose is beautiful. Absolutely stunning.

The book has a lot of Christian elements but they work within the story and seemed natural/well-placed to this atheist.

The book is lovely.

Reread, and I imagine it won‘t be my last time with this book. Read along with #CloseReads #podcast.

I know many people love this book, but it just didn‘t effect me in quite the same way. The writing was good and the ending surprising but I expected to connect more with this one from friend reviews.

Here‘s my Hour 42 Challenge for #24in48! I don‘t think I have one universal “Swiss Army” book rec—I usually tailor recommendations a bit depending on the person. But here are a few of the ones I recommend the most, the tagged being probably the most universal. 😊

This is another one of my favorite reads of 2018. Loved it! Set in the Midwest in the 1960‘s, there‘s just something about it that is so sweet and loving. I know it might not be for everyone but it was the perfect book at the perfect time for me, and I still get happy feelings remembering it even though I finished it a few months ago.

I've heard about this book, but never read it. I saw it on kindle for 1.33 so I thought I'd give it a try. Has anyone read it, is it good?

There‘s something about reading a book the second time around. You will love it all over again, but maybe in a different way. A deeper way. No rush to find out the ending, just taking your time. Relishing the beauty of the sentences and saying hello to familiar characters once again. You read the first couple pages and it hits you — that there aren‘t really fitting words for how your favorite book makes you ache, it‘s so stunning.

Went to the nearest town which had a second hand bookshop - managed to stop myself at ten! I‘ve read 3, maybe 4, of these (the Knox, Morrison, Green and maybe the Doctorow) but needed copies for my bookshelves - the others are all on my TBR. I do love a good #secondhandhaul 😍😍

So, first post here is to show my goal for 2018 - to read from my TBR stack as much as possible. I‘ve joined the #unreadshelf on IG to motivate and two reading challenges - Modern Mrs. Darcy and Book Riot‘s Read Harder to help choose books (but I‘ve already purchased about four titles to fit categories) from my stack(s). I‘m thinking the #24in48 might be a good motivator too.

Stories set in the West normally never draw me in at all. Seven or eight years ago I read this book and gave it two stars, remembering little about it. Oh how my reading tastes have changed! I‘m still not drawn to western settings, but the literary style of Enger is exquisite. The ending is worth every page leading up to it. #mmdbookclub #peacelikeariver #leifenger #grovepress

I was not but a few chapters into this book and thought to give it up, but read so much positive encouragement to continue that I read on, and I‘m so glad that I did. This is a wonderfully loving, lovely, miracle-filled book and the ending is perfection. The writing style reminds me of True Grit and News of the World, 2 of my favorite books, but is a unique, Western-style saga. #MMDBookClub

I bought this new Kindle for myself back in October but (im)patiently waited to open it so the kids could give it to me today. This one is waterproof so I‘m looking forward to giving it lots of book and bath time. #merrychristmas to me 🌲🎁🤶🏻📚 🛀 🍷

So...I‘m bumping merrily along in this one, really enjoying the ride, and then something happens that makes absolutely no sense and I can‘t keep reading because I have to go to work. I really hope this is resolved ASAP and explained or this is going to be a DNF. #MMDBookclub #WTF

Two hours of driving to see your kid perform for three minutes is sometimes part of the Mom gig. It‘s a good time to be a reader so I have something to do while she waits for the awards ceremony. #killingtime #bookandbeer

Current situation: new book, coffee, Winter mug, pajamas, Christmas lights and candles, snow outside, nowhere to go... perfect...

I really don‘t know why I love this book so much but something just touched my very soul me as I was reading it. Maybe it was the old-fashioned values. Maybe it was the fact that I could lend this book to my elderly mother and not be embarrassed by its language or core principles. In fact, I am going to buy copies for the ladies in my Neighborhood Book Club to read as our January selection.

Starting this #MMDbookclub pick today. I‘m rarely disappointed by the books they choose and this one appears to be good as well.

Next book up. This one is for #mmdbookclub. It‘s different than my normal reads, but I usually like her choices.

Absolutely adored this book when I read it 6 years ago. In going back to help me remember it better, I was reminded of Tom Walker's (of the Denver Post) review. Loved this #theriver book when it was chosen as the first All Iowa Reads selection back in 2003. I think often of the phrase "escalation of retaliation" and its relevance to this story and sadly to the news most every day.
