I paused reading in May 2018 after getting to some "problematic" poems (I posted about that at the time if you scroll a bit down the book profile, and @vivastory gave me some useful insights). I put it back on the shelf to see if I needed a bit of distance to return to it, but, no: clocking it today gave me a negative reaction, so I'm #deshelving.

Bookwomble Poems justifying domestic abuse and fantasising (at least hopefully only fantasising) about rape aren't my cup of tea. There are poems about other things, some of them very good, but I couldn't get past the "ick" ones. 3w
Suet624 I remember being repulsed when I first read any of his work back in the 80‘s. Seemed like a lot of men I knew at the time liked what he had to say, which was very disheartening. 3w

Bookwomble @Suet624 It is disheartening, indeed 🫤 3w
Graywacke I read a collection of his. It‘s all attitude and cigarettes. I don‘t remember abuse, but he clearly was undoing something. My issue was it got to feel repetitive. 3w

5⭐️ this is not your typical Neil Gaiman and read. But that doesn‘t take away from this at all. This is super short, and the thought put behind writing this poem is just as beautiful as the poem was itself. If you have five minutes, pick up this book. I checked it out for free on hoopla.

What a beautiful collection of poems!

Going into this, I was only vaguely familiar with Rumi and his poetry. I was always curious about his work and I‘m happy I finally read it.

I love that the translator gave a ton of context to the poems. The book opens with notes on the transliteration, Rumi‘s life, and on the poems.

That morning I heard water being poured into a teapot.
The sound was an ordinary, daily, cluffy sound.
But all at once I knew you loved me.
An unheard-of thing, love audible in water falling.

#LoveQuote in The Teapot, #poem by Robert Bly. I used to use his #poetry for discussion when I taught Interpersonal Communication. Always lots to talk about with "The Other Imperfect Bird." #FeelintheLove @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
