This brief werewolf tale was a total treat. The conceit of each chapter being one month of the year was clever. I loved the illustrations, and was genuinely shocked at the werewolf identity reveal. I do have to take away a star, though. I‘m sad to report that I‘ve realized that 1980s SK suffered from a terrible case of fatphobia. I do not see this in his later novels, but it‘s so obvious in these earlier ones. (And I‘m reading Thinner next. 🤦‍♀️)

Mehso-so

Not great. The set up is so weird, not 100% it even makes sense. Some characters were nearly interchangeable not stand out archetypes like the original cast. And the villains themselves were good but the villain POV was a waste. But Blake does a great job with the banter from the OG characters, I love the nostalgia of it, and the new scoobies are left with quite a mystery so I‘ll likely continue.

ShyBookOwl Oh no! I mostly loved this series, but the third was definitely my favourite, despite one gripe with Willow's storyline (which I won't spoil lol) 14h
5feet.of.fury Went and looked up @monalyisha ‘s review from 3 years ago and we had similar thoughts on this one 😩 14h
monalyisha @5feet.of.fury Wow, I was so mad. 😅 13h
5feet.of.fury @monalyisha 😂😂😂😅 you‘re not wrong though wtf is she doing to Willow here? Frankie‘s conception 😱& in general I‘m not a Tara hater but agree Oz was always the best …but seeing Blake try to make that happen again was off putting. 13h
monalyisha @5feet.of.fury One HUNDRED percent! 12h

Urban fantasy meets supernatural romance in this series that started in 2010. It feels a bit like Twilight for grown ups, repressive gender norms & all. (Actually worse with the gender norms. According to the mc "women's liberation" still hasn't gotten to the werewolves. Yoiks.) Despite that I find myself hooked? It's a compelling story, and I want to see where it goes. Basically a coyote shifter among werewolves and lots of supernatural intrigue.

rachelsbrittain To be clear, the Twilight comparison isn't meant to be negative. It's the regressive gender norms that are the problem, and even Twilight does way better on that front 😅 1d
SpeculativeFemale I enjoyed the first few books of this series a while back, but then kind of lost track of it. I should really go back to it someday. 1d
robinb I 💚 Mercy and her crew. Between this series and Briggs‘ Kate Daniels, these are how I got started in urban fantasy. 😊 1d
5feet.of.fury @robinb Kate Daniels series is Ilona Andrews but I agree I loved it so much! 1d

I‘ll preface this by saying I loved the first 2 books in this series. That being said, I hated this book. It literally felt like pulling teeth to finish it. I tried to make a list of what I disliked, such as the slapstick no-stakes action, the robot characters, the bad dialogue, or the irritating frequent narrator asides, which took me out of the story every time. But it can all be summed up with poor writing. Not even the romances could save it.

It's been 9 years since I read the first book in this series, City of Bones. I felt I was able to get back into the world with no problems. I like the world of the shadow hunters. It's hard to explain what is going on here, but the book ended on an epic battle that was fun to read. We get a lot more of Jace in this series, and Simon too.

After a pre-Christmas trip to London, staying with her sister, and Christmas itself, Sophronia and friends return to the school for the New Year Tea only to find that it has been infiltrated by Picklemen.

A satisfactory wrap-up to the series with quite a few surprises on the way.

I truly don‘t know what to think of this worldbuilding 🛸🪐 But it was fun and the ending was hilarious.

LiseWorks Love this author 5d
5feet.of.fury @LiseWorks Me too. I loved Kate Daniels & Hidden Legacy! Now I have this series to get through. The world building was pretty wacky, but it was still good 4d
HeyT This is probably my favorite series of theirs. 4d

Siddheag receives distressing news about her pack and Sophronia and the other girls put their training into practice to help her and incidentally foil the latest plot of the Picklemen.

It's been 3 years or more since I read the previous installments so I was a bit hazy on the details of what had happened. Fortunately there is fan wiki to remind me who was who. Great fun.
