One of the reasons I love reading memoirs is to learn about other‘s life experiences and culture. That was certainly the case here. This was a brave and at times informative memoir that gave a solid glimpse into the life of a queer Muslim woman who found her identity lied in not one but many things.

It was an interesting premise based on Margaret Cavendish (who I didn't know before this), but this book, written in vignettes, did not manage to hold my attention throughout.

I‘ve read similar historical fiction books featuring artists and their inspirations, but this one just fell flat for me. I appreciated the second half more than the first half - I felt that parts of the storytelling were not needed, or could have been shortened. Finally getting started on my #LitsyToB24 reading list, and what an excellent start it was! I really loved this book! And I don‘t know that I would have picked it up without the ToB. So thank you ladies! I loved these characters and the whole story. It just had so much heart, and was still a whole lot of fun!
