Bookwormjillk I‘m still working on The Dark Half which I read accidentally last month. Then I have the new one and this which both came in from the library at the same time. It‘s going to be a King filled month. Not complaining because to me Stephen King=Summer reading. 1d
bekakins This is one of my absolute faves! I used to have a hardback omnibus of The Eyes of the Dragon & Firestarter and it was proper comfort reading for me whenever I was off sick from school 19h

BarkingMadRead I know that this was a political book, please make sure your comments are kind. 5d
Leftcoastzen Love your well loved old copy! 5d
BarkingMadRead @Leftcoastzen I had to tape part of the binding this time! 🙈 this poor old thing 5d

TieDyeDude I listened to this on audio, narrated by James Franco. It was a tough listen because Franco sounded completely uninterested. I really enjoyed the foreshadowing used by King, like the seemingly random lightning rod salesman. It was a long road to get to the events of the conclusion, but I loved the ride. I'd like to re-read a physical copy in the future; I feel like I'd like it even more without Franco's droning... 5d
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude ugh how disappointing! 5d
Bookwormjillk SHOOT! I accidentally got The Dark Half instead. I always mix those up. 😂

Not finished yet but I'm enjoying it. Re-read The Dead Zone a few years back and liked that too.

Bklover This is one of my favorites. Not sure why, except I remember reading it when it first came out. I loved it then, (I was 19), and I still reread it occasionally. It still holds up as one of my favorites. 4d
kwmg40 Like @TieDyeDude, I disliked James Franco's narration, but otherwise I loved the story, and it really is hard not to think about today's political situation while reading this book. 1d
kwmg40 After finishing the book, I immediately watched the 1983 adaptation, which I thought was very good. My only complaint is that it was so condensed. All the plot elements were there (with some minor changes) but so many details that contributed to the character development were cut. 1d

I enjoyed the re-visit of this one. It felt too real/too haunting. I don't know if I would have been able to act in a similar way to the MC did. Like I get it, but could I? I highly doubt it.

Cleaned/organized my pantry for a big chunk of this #AudioCleaning (while drinking Bloody Mary's) - Love the new organization now.

TheBookHippie Oh this is brilliant! 2w

King writing about a political clown goofing his way into office spelling certain disaster, decades before Drumpf disgraced the White House. I hated James Franco as narrator; he sounds either hung over or bored for the majority of the audio. It was a well constructed story, though, with lots of foreshadowing and good payoff. #losersclub #constantreader

vivastory This one is still on my King TBR, but the adaptation is one of my favorites. Speaking of topical King, how appropriate that we're getting a new adaptation of The Running Man this year? ☠ 2w
Susanita I read this many years ago and couldn‘t put it down. 2w
AnnCrystal @vivastory I read a concerning news story yesterday about a possible new reality series,

“A television reality show concept is under consideration at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) where immigrants would compete for U.S. citizenship through a series of challenges.“

Running Man was one of the stories that I compared this to... along with Hunger Games...

Disturbing and terrifying.

AnnCrystal P.S. never actually watched/read The Running Man or the Hunger Games...maybe the running man movie when I was a kid... 2w
vivastory @AnnCrystal If I told you I was surprised...I'd be lying. The following is from 3 months ago:

vivastory @AnnCrystal I'm a major King fan, but TRN is one of his books I haven't read. I also haven't read any HG books. I', planning on remedying BOTH in the next couple of months. 2w
AnnCrystal @vivastory 😢🙏🇺🇸.

Brave, to read these. I can't even read/watch my all-time-favorite Batman right now...Gotham City freaks me out!

Going to try Wayne of Gotham by Tracy Hickman in a few weeks... hopefully it's more focused on the Wayne family and not so much chaotic Gotham.

Bookwormjillk I liked this more when I read it as a teen I think. As an adult I thought it was too long and SK was a bit too much with some of the sidebars. It read very late 70‘s early 80‘s to me. Still King do readable but not a favorite. 1mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk 💯 could have been a short story! 1mo

JenlovesJT47 I enjoyed this and am looking forward to the movie adaptation! It is one long existential crisis that fills you with dread. 1mo
AllDebooks I did not like this. I found it repetitive and overlong. It certainly was tense and horrifying. I agree, @BarkingMadRead it would be better as a concise short story. 1mo
5feet.of.fury I didn‘t like it either. Weird side note though, there was a 20 mile race that went from Kittery Maine to Salisbury Massachusetts and goes through the part of Rt1 NH that they were on at one point. I was there once also trying to beat an aggressive time cut off 1mo
KathyWheeler I liked it but feel it would‘ve worked better as a novella. I also have mixed feelings about the ending. 1mo
ElizaMarie How will this change when the movie version comes out? I am curious to see what direction this goes - and what the movie ending will be. I enjoyed this book - I liked the boys' conversations throughout the walk and the different character developments. I agree with y'all thinking this would have fared much better as a novella. 1mo
Karkar This was okay for me. Real middle of the road. It did do a very good job of stressing me out. 1mo
Julies_Bookshelf_Adventures I felt like this would have been better as a novella. It had an interesting premise, but kinda lost itself for a bit. Really stressful in general, but I enjoyed the thought experiment of how psychologically and physically something like this would affect people. 1mo
kwmg40 I'd read this book some years ago and, though I liked the story very much, I found it very disturbing and decided not to reread it at this time. I've always been intrigued by the real-life Swedish Fotrally race inspired by this book. Nothing terrible happens to the competitors that drop out of that race, thankfully! 1mo
MatchlessMarie Late finishing this one.. is this a metaphor 🫣 It was physically exhausting reading this one as someone who struggles with daytime drowsiness reading about how tired all these guys were. 🫩 I also didn‘t realize it was being adapted. I will be interested to see the movie take on it. I really like the concept but it definitely dialed up the existential dread for me 😱 3w

Initially read this years ago, had almost forgotten how great it was - knew I liked it, but I hadn't remembered the intensity of the boys.

It was kismet that one of my co-workers (who saw me reading) had also randomly picked this one up! So we have been discussing too!

Picture from one of the protests (felt like it belonged here)
