Bookwormjillk I don‘t even know where to start! I don‘t think I‘ll ever get sick of reading and re-reading this one. 6d
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk never ever ever. Always and forever my favorite! 6d

PaperbackPirate I wanted to join in on this one but just didn‘t have the time. Maybe later this year! 6d
TieDyeDude I really enjoyed the graphic novel adaptation. I'm not a fan of the artist's style, but it was consistent and the characters were discernable (which isn't always the case in comics with a large cast). The overall focus was more on the Colorado crew, but it never felt rushed or lacking. I would say the biggest miss was Trashy. His story kinda dropped off after he got to Vegas, so his role in the finale felt underdeveloped. 6d
TieDyeDude I has been about 5 years since I read The Stand for the first time. I was surprised at how much came back to me as I was doing this re-read, though I mostly forgot the Vegas finale 🤷‍♂️ Maybe in another 5 years, I'll read the uncut novel 😋 Has anyone done this on audio? (edited) 6d
Bookwormjillk @TieDyeDude yes, I did it on audio this time. It works. 6d
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude how can they do that to poor Trashy! He‘s so important! 6d
JessClark78 I‘m only about a hundred pages in, but this is my third or fourth time reading The Stand. I‘m always amazed at how King can write so many characters in one book. 6d
kwmg40 I too am doing a reread, but I only got about a quarter of the way through before having to return it to the library. It's a gripping read but I had way too many books on the go already. I'll resume when I get the book again, and in the meantime, I'm really enjoying this more leisurely read, instead of the frantic page-turning experience last time, trying to find out what happens next. 6d
bekakins I didn‘t manage to do a reread but this is one of my favourite King novels - such great character development in this one! 5d
Roary47 I read this last year and have to say it‘s one of my favorites. 😍 3d

The Stand Vol. 6: The Night Has Come | Stephen King, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Pickpick

While any abridged adaptation is necessarily going to come with its share of deviations, I think the team at Marvel did an excellent job at adapting this epic story. They even included a cheeky King cameo, with “Rich Bachman“, drawn to resemble King, as one of Flagg's lieutenants. #constantreader #losersclub
Having read both the original edit and this adaptation, it'll be interesting to one day read the “complete and uncut“ version.

The Stand Vol. 4: Hardcases | Stephen King, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

The groups start to arrive in Boulder and Las Vegas. New relationships form as old bonds strain. I am reminded of a bit from comedian Lee Camp: Evil people have plans. Good people don't have plans. They want to live their lives in peace and enjoy themselves. Well, the evil people here are crucifying rule breakers and gathering weapons while the good guys are trying to build a coalition by committee.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Well, that video is certainly correct. Sadly, I just want to be around good people, easy good food, and meet ALL the dogs. 3w

Laughing because this is the bookmark that came up in my mug, it‘s from a romance author at a book con I went to a couple years ago. Not so sure doctor romance could handle Captain Trips 🤣 #losersclub #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead #BookDiscussion

Pickpick

Volume 1&2 of the graphic novel adaptation of The Stand.
I'm actually impressed at how well the story is paced so far. For example, they don't waste a lot of pages on Nick's time as deputy, but they leave space for scenes like Lloyd's prison time and the Lincoln Tunnel to breathe. The artist is the same that recently underwhelmed me with heavy lines and thick shadows in The Bat-Man First Knight, and he's still not my favorite, but it happens.

Bookwormjillk It was fun to revisit his earlier stories and see him start to play with some of his longer books and themes. My dad had the version with the eyeball hand on the cover when I was a kid and I always had nightmares about it. Also Children if the Corn was a sleepover favorite so yay for nostalgia. 1mo
AllDebooks I enjoyed this collection. As @Bookwormjillk said, it's fun seeing the formation of his longer works. Children of the corn was so creepy. X 1mo

TieDyeDude I was surprised to see him flirt with sci-fi with I Am the Doorway. He doesn't seem to play in that sandbox too often. I liked the "bad deal" stories, Quitters Inc, The Ledge, Lawnmower Man. Lawnmower, Trucks, and Mangler were pretty silly ? I found Last Rung ? maybe the most memorable. It had an aching sweetness to it, but I seem to like unrequited/unreciprocated love stories for some reason... 1mo
BarkingMadRead @alldebooks children of the corn has always creeped me out! The movie is so messed up! @TieDyeDude yes! Mangler was so silly at the end 🤣 1mo
Balibee146 Oh I love that edition. I didn't pick up Night Shift last month sadly but I do like it as a collection. I really enjoy King short stories 😍 1mo
LoverOfLearning Just recently started reading SK! Long list of books to read 😩 1mo
kwmg40 I enjoyed these stories, especially because, as @Bookwormjillk mentioned, we can see themes that King expands on in future books. Like several of you here, I too found Children of the Corn very creepy. 1mo
Karkar A little late to the party. This is one of my favorite of SK‘s short story collections. So many great ones in this book! 4w
