Celebrating #NationalLibraryWeek & honoring all librarians in this brave new world of having to defend the right to read. Thomas Hughes Free Public Library pic is from yesterday's visit to Rugby, TN. The #library opened in 1882 with over 5000 donated books. The utopian community didn't succeed, but the library & 7000 books remain for visitors to peruse & appreciate. A few views to add to one from @plemmdog #litsylibrarians #litsylibrarian

Woman 99: A Novel | Greer Macallister

Have you heard of a book trailer? Like a movie trailer (preview), but for books! Shout out to clever #librarians (ahem @mrbook) & #libraries. Mooresville Public Library, Indiana, put together this very cool way to showcase books. It's launch day today for Woman 99. You have to watch this. So dang clever! https://youtu.be/MtZTkt986n0

DivineDiana Yes! Barnes and Noble has them on their website. And not sure how I found it, but I just watched one for the book that I am reading, The Alice Network today! 😲 6y
lynneamch How neat @DivineDiana ! I really enjoyed the Alice Network. Greer and Kate Quinn are doing an event together tomorrow in Maryland for Kate's new book 6y
DivineDiana I so wish I could be there! 6y
Talewaggingreads Book Trailers are brilliant! Why didn't I think of that when I was teaching? 🤦‍♀️🎥🎬📚🤦‍♀️ 6y

Our media librarian has been faithfully preserving some pieces from our long-withdrawn LP collection. Perfect for a jazz display.

MrBook Love this! You work at a library? 7y
swynn Yes: a medium-sized academic one, so we don't do a lot of displays. But a few. This one was fun for the vintage recordings. 7y

Chelleo Cool, another #LitsyLibrarian #LitsyLibraryStaff I‘m at a small, regional campus library of a R1 university 7y
swynn Woohoo! The more librarians the merrier! 7y
Nute This is a revolving jazz display at your library? A great first choice. He was a favorite of my father's many favorite jazz musicians. I really like vinyl for jazz music. There is a greater depth of quality. Welcome to Litsy. You'll love it here. 7y
swynn It's a display with revolving themes, highlighting resources from our collection on different subjects; this theme was jazz, but has just changed to gardening. I confess I do not hear the differences between vinyl and digital the way better listeners do; but I have an amateur's love of the music represented on these albums, and was really pleased to find we still had these. 7y

Rabbit Cake | Annie Hartnett

Pickpick

This is a kind of weird and totally enjoyable story about family, grief, and baking cakes shaped like rabbits. I loved how genuine Hartnett's characters feel as well as her heart wrenching look at the crazy things grief can make us do. This is a fantastic book.

RaimeyGallant Sounds interesting. :) And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you need it. Or if you prefer how-to videos, @chelleo put some together at the link in her bio. 7y

This book was amazing! The back and forth between the past and present was artfully done. I enjoyed every page. Such a sad story. I felt for each and every stolen child and teared up at the end! A must read!

DebbieGrillo I'm reading this one right now. 7y

MrBook WOOHOO!!! 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7y
MrBook Tips, tips 🤔: #1 thing is people skills--libraries get all types--and handling difficult patrons; knowing how the call number system works--not knowing the numbers-subject combos, but how to put them in order; familiarize yourself with databases, like Overdrive and Zinio; and familiarize yourself with e-book basics, like how to fully make use of Kindles for example. Let's get some others' advice 😁: (edited) 7y
Librarybelle Thanks for the tag, @MrBook ! @TaylorMay I‘ve been thinking about this since you posted. What has been said by Mr Book is so true - people skills are big. I‘m impressed by someone who gives excellent customer service. Reader‘s advisory is good too, knowing what to recommend who like certain authors. Good luck!! 7y
LibrarianRyan Congrats. Be able to name 5 current best sellers in the following categories, fiction, non-fiction, teen, and kids. Be prepared to answer questions about upset patrons. How would u deal with a child who was left behind, or a parents complaint about something in the collection. 7y
LibrarianToujours Agree with @MrBook people skills are everything! I‘m a director and I tell my staff I don‘t care if the building burns down, just be helpful and nice to people. Regular Library work is never done and nothing to panic about, but people will remember if staff are rude to them. 2nd: always be curious and willing to learn. What you don‘t know won‘t matter if you show you‘re willing to learn and try new things. Good luck! 7y
DivineDiana Fingers crossed! 👍🏻 7y
TaylorMay @MrBook @Librarybelle @LibrarianRyan @NHLibrarian thank you all so much for the advice. I posted more yesterday but my comment seems to have gotten lost in the #LitsyCrash2017. I am trying to prep myself a little more with your advice thank goodness I'm already an avid Overdrive user. 😊 7y
TaylorMay @robinb @LeahBergen @JSW @DivineDiana thank you for the well wishes 7y

The Trials of Morrigan Crow | Jessica Townsend
post image

Last Standing Order of the year has arrived from Lamont Books.
There's been lots of chatter about The Trials of Morrigan Crow -- the first book in the Nevermoor series.
Pretty sure that requires me to be super vigilant with this book, cross all the boxes and perform my librarian duties to the highest standard possible by checking to make sure all the words are in the right order before I let the kidlets see it #qualitycontrol #LitsyLibrarian
