I volunteered at the charity bookshop this afternoon and even though I went in prepared with a list of possibilities for #ReadingAcrossTheAmericas I somehow managed to buy two #Booked2023 contenders😆#SneakPeek #Spoiler !?!Any guesses what the prompts might be??? Stay tuned for the full list dropping November 1!!!!!

BarbaraBB Ooh lots of guesses possible. Book by an author you read in 2022? Winner of a main literary prize? Can‘t wait for your reveal 😀 (edited) 2y
Cinfhen Two excellent guesses @BarbaraBB but you‘ll have to wait to see 😄😘 2y
rockpools Oooh 🧐 2y

Cinfhen You still have plenty of time @TrishB but there‘s something so satisfying about planning for NEW challenges @rockpools @squirrelbrain 😁 2y
TrishB I think I may have 4 left, need to have a check 😁 2y
jlhammar Great finds - both so good! 2y
Cinfhen Thanks @jlhammar I‘m looking forward to both!!! I can‘t wait for the new season of challenges to begin!!!! 2y
Bookzombie I think one prompt may be something involving law or a legal theme. ⚖️ 2y
Cinfhen I see your detective skills @Bookzombie 🕵️‍♀️ 2y

Xingu | Edith Wharton

Pickpick

Rough day, but this was an unexpected delight. I hadn‘t been planning on doing April‘s #authoramonth as I expected Edith Wharton to be stuffy/polite/heavy. Turns out not. This short story about a snooty bookclub was laugh-out-loud funny & very clever (but not TOO clever!). I need to go back & read the middle bit again, to peer a little more into Xingu‘s depths.

Will definitely read more Wharton -but might head for Mapp & Lucia in the meantime.

rockpools Also decided to join in with season 2 of #Booked2020 #FinishInADay (better late than never!) @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage @cinfhen 5y
JackOBotts A snooty book club?! SOLD! I‘ll have to add this. My exposure to Wharton was really just a HS assignment 5y
Daisey Of the Wharton I‘ve read, this is my favorite. 5y

batsy I've seen so many positive reviews so I definitely should read it soon! Plus, it's short! I hope your day got better ❤️ 5y
Cinfhen Yay!! Welcome 🥳and this novella sounds delightful!!! #stacked 💚 5y
rockpools @JackOBotts EF sounds much more like what I was expecting. Did you enjoy it? 5y
rockpools @Daisey Isn‘t it fun?! 5y
rockpools @batsy It‘s super-short - and I think you‘d enjoy it. How are you doing? 5y
rockpools @Cinfhen Thank you 😊. I was finding challenges stressful last year - right now I‘m thinking ‘just give me something to tick off‘ 🤷🏻‍♀️ And I think you‘d enjoy this - use it for a chuckle between your heavier reads! 5y
Cinfhen Yay!!! I also need to read a book about a #BookClub for #PoP20 so it‘s perfect 👌🏽 5y
batsy @RachelO I'm muddling along; just a lot of anxiety like a lot of people are feeling. How are you? 5y
rockpools @batsy About the same. Finding it so hard to concentrate on work then feeling v ungrateful because I do actually have safe work. But muddling along, as you say. 5y
JackOBotts @RachelO - I don‘t remember much of Ethan Frome, to be honest. I think I remember winter...and that‘s about it. The only other recollection may be a #spoiler of sorts, so I don‘t want to mention it... 5y

Rahh I want to write about what I loved and was disturbed by in this book but it'll be a spoilerrrrr!! But it's a classic, everyone has read it, right? But what if you haven't and it will be spoiled? Get out and read it if you haven't - and understand the connotations behind it dammit!!

Anna Pigeon can‘t catch a break! Hubs knows she‘s frazzled from her last case, so he takes her on a getaway, but of course it soon turns into anything but relaxing. The story unfolds in a way that paralleled an event in the news at the time, but to say more would be a #spoiler so I‘ll leave it at that. Before I read this book, I thought Terlingua was just a variety of #chilli and had no idea it was actually a town in Texas!

OMG! I can't believe she actually not sick. How can a mother do that to her daughter ? It was all a act of sadness.

✨ Note: I am going to keep reading and will do a review at the end.
✨ MOST TWIST IN THE BOOK EVER!

#everythingeverythingbook #mustread #booktwist #love #spoiler

TrishB I read this - then my 16y/o daughter read straight after. I was waiting for when she got to the twist and she literally jumped out of her seat shouting!! Love it when a book does that 😀 7y
coffeewithbooks @TrishB I almost did to but my daughter was asleep , so I just gasp. 7y
TrishB You can give them all to her when she's older and wait for the gasps! 7y

coffeewithbooks @TrishB yes definitely! 7y
Megabooks I didn't like this book because it was obvious to me she wasn't sick from the beginning. Being in the medical field kinda ruined this one. 7y
JoeStalksBeck I've never even read it and I could tell by the trailer that it wAs suspicious @Booksandcooks so I didn't read it 7y
Meeko93 Haha I finished it now so I had to come look at your spoiler. I agree it's horrible, such a wasted 18 years, but I still loved it! 7y
coffeewithbooks @Meeko93 glad you like it 7y

Let's be honest. It's Cate Blanchett. The REAL question was always whether Mjölnir was worthy of her. #Spoiler: It's Not

Hope you've seen the trailer for "Thor: Ragnarok," because it looks AMAZING!

Bookzombie 😂 It does look amazing! 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Seconds before I saw this my brother texted me "The Thor: Ragnarok trailer is the best Marvel movie" 8y
drokka It's refreshing to see Cate playing a dark villain. 8y
BillBlume @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I think he might be right! 8y
BillBlume @drokka I can't tell you how excited I've been to see her as Hela. One of my favorite actresses playing one of my favorite villains. 8y

When I first read this book I was heartbroken by Buffy's death. Rereading I feel more justified with her death, although her actions where not intentionally they were malicious and her death is not the one I am gonna cry about during this reread. #zombielit #miragrant #spoiler
