BarbaraBB Thanks!! I could use some inspiration for this one! 1y
Cinfhen This was a prompt on #pop20 I think @BarbaraBB and it was difficult for me then too!!! I‘ve tried to read NK Jemisin before @BarbaraTheBibliophage but I couldn‘t connect 🤷🏼‍♀️I know she‘s super popular!! Thanks for suggesting her books!!! 1y
Larkken I recently found cadwell turnbull, whose books would work along with these authors, and one of the original afrofuturism writers is Nalo Hopkinson. 1y
Cinfhen Thanks for the suggestions @Larkken !!! Keep them coming 😁 1y

In an alternate universe, Hillary doesn‘t marry Bill Clinton but remains Hillary Rodham. Liberated from his ambitions and sexual extremities, she can create her own path and follow her own ambitions.

I kept wondering what was true and what was fiction. Hillary felt so real! The one downside for me was the namedropping (a lot!) of politicians I never heard of.
⬇️⬇️ #bookspin #pop20 A book everyone seems to have read

BarbaraBB ⬆️⬆️
However, for a book about two people I am not that interested in about domestic politics in a country that‘s not mine it really was a very engaging read!
3y
Megabooks I love every word of your review!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💕 3y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks Thank you so much! I felt unsure writing it and was afraid I was not nuanced enough! 💕 3y

Kalalalatja Definitely a great review! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 3y
KarenUK Fab review! I was unsure about this one, but makes me want to read it! 👍 3y
riversong153 I enjoyed this one too. 3y
Cinfhen This made my #Top20of20 list ....I really enjoyed it! And....fabulous review💜you nailed it, perfectly (edited) 3y
Vansa Reading this now too!And that's what struck me as well, I'm really not into American politics in such detail and had to keep asking my husband about some politicians but it was such a compelling read.Quite moving in parts too. 3y
TrishB I just put on my forecast for the week 👍🏻 great review! 3y
Cathythoughts I did love American Wife by this author! I‘ll try a sample this week 👍🏻👍🏻 sounds good 3y
BarbaraBB @TrishB @Cathythoughts For me as non American it sometimes was a bit too American (domestic politics) but Hillary‘s story and character is very well done. I loved Sittenfeld‘s 3y
nocto I quite liked the way I kept looking up the politicians mentioned and they turned out to be real but not as successful as they were in the book. I found the beginning of the book a bit creepy (when she was with Bill) but enjoyed it more as it went on. Interesting portrayal of D***** T**** too (and that‘s not a sentence I‘d write in most contexts!). 3y
BarbaraBB @nocto Yes, DT made a funny appearance and I agree on the first part: I had to stop myself from visualizing Bill and Hillary naked 😂 (edited) 3y
Suet624 Okay, unpopular opinion here, but I‘m kind of done with Hillary being the standard bearer of ... women? Political women? Longest suffering woman? Powerful women? There are so many others I would rather look to. That‘s why I avoided this book like the plague. Your review has finally broken through my hard shell and I think I‘ll check it out. 😀😀 3y
BarbaraBB @Suet624 I totally agree with you about being done with Hillary. And I am not really interested in her as a person either. But the book is good. If you can handle a naked Bill Clinton playing sax you can distance yourself from H and read about a woman fighting her way to the top in what is still a man‘s world. 3y
Suet624 That I can do. Thank you! 💕💕 3y

In the mood for some golden age crime tonight. I didn't think much of the first Lord Peter Wimsey novel so let's have another go.

Still catching up on last year's PopSugar Reading Challenge - a book set in the 1920s #pop20 (I will finish it eventually I'm sure!!!)

My last #pop20 prompt was a book with a gold, silver, or bronze in the title. This lovely picture book contains two of those, and the illustrations are gorgeous! Highly recommend to anyone with young children in their lives.

I never would have read this if there wasn‘t a Western prompt on the Popsugar RC this year, and I‘m so glad I did! I hope the author writes more books or novellas set in this world, because I am here for queer librarians leading the resistance in a dystopian future that brings back many elements of the Wild West!

One prompt to go on #pop20, and I have a picture book picked for it. 🤣

valeriegeary I liked this one...I wished it had been longer. 3y
alisiakae @valeriegeary I wanted the story to continue too. 3y
Scochrane26 I might use this for my library‘s book challenge next year. One of the prompts is a western, & I normally don‘t like that genre. 3y
HeathHof Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I just got this off kindle for 2.99 yesterday! 3y

#PopSugarReadingChallenge2021 has just been announced and I am ridiculously excited...

Two of the prompts are the longest and shortest books on my TBR. I think it's these two...(if you don't count books with multiple books in them)

Anyone else doing it?

Cosyreader Wow that‘s a chunky book! I‘m going to do what I can - I‘ll definitely be able to complete the TBR section! 3y
RaeLovesToRead @Cosyreader PopSugar is so much fun! I think people are using the hashtag #pop21 for it (#pop20 for this year). I actually found an even chunkier book (A suitable boy) on my shelf... and a smaller one too! What's your longest? 3y
Cosyreader @RaeLovesToRead nice! It is fun but I do always get distracted from the books I own to try and complete it 😂. I‘m going to use my Persephone collection for the end section and my longest one is Greenery Street. Have you read any Persephone books? 3y
RaeLovesToRead @Cosyreader no I haven't... just googled them... they look so pretty 😍 I'm the same it's an excuse to gather more books!! 3y

Pop sugar‘s 2021 Reading Challenge just dropped and I am loving both the diversity of the prompts, and focus on TBR in the advanced section.

Also, #Booked2021 had the idea for a ♣️♦️♠️♥️ prompt first. 😝 @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen

Check out the list here: https://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/reading-challenge-2021-47892177

I have 2 more prompts left on the 2020 list. Almost there! #pop20 #pop21

Cinfhen There‘s a lot of crossover and a bunch of their prompts we‘ve had in previous #Booked challenges 🙌🏻😍 #GreatMindsThinkAlike @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage #PoP21 3y
alisiakae @Cinfhen I think they are starting to recycle a bit from their own lists from previous years! I love their 2021 prompts, more than the 2020 ones. This will be my 6th year, popsugar was the first online RC I ever participated in! 3y
Graciouswarriorprincess I don‘t know that I like this year‘s. I try to match up the prompts with books in my TBR piles to downsize those piles and will have a hard time with this list doing that. 3y

Cinfhen I agree, last year‘s prompts weren‘t the best. 3y
Amandajoy I don‘t normally do their reading challenge, but I think I‘m going to do the advanced option this year. Need to whittle down the TBR. Not like that‘s ever really going to happen, but I‘ll take a shot at it. 3y
JamieArc I don‘t usually do reading challenges because I‘m such a mood reader and like to figure out on my own my reading priorities, but a lot of these prompts would cover books I‘ve been meaning to read, or are just really interesting. I might just give it a go this time! 3y
BarbaraBB I finished this year‘s challenge months ago because the prompts were easy or multi interpretabele. I really think the #pop21 prompts are better! 3y
eeclayton I've participated 3 times, including 2020, which I won't finish most probably, but I started out late (some time in April), and it won't bother me if I can't tick off each prompt. I'm not sure I want to jump in in 2021, although the advanced section does look exciting! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft Glad we can say ours were “published” first! I think I‘m sticking to #readingasia2021 and #booked2021 and the nonfiction bingo card that hopefully @Riveted_Reader_Melissa does again in 2021. That‘s more than enough for me! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I already posted it! I‘ll tag you 😉 3y
alisiakae @Riveted_Reader_Melissa and now I‘m off to find #nonfiction2021! 🙌🏽 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @4thhouseontheleft I see you found it! 👍 3y
Cinfhen Oh... I need to find that post too @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I love your #NFChallenge 💜😘 3y
saresmoore I love the crossover with the Blackjack prompt! You guys are really on the forefront! 😄 3y
Cinfhen Here‘s the link for #pop21 @andreadmw xx 3y
Crazeedi I found this post! Printed the list so I'll see how far I get! 3y
alisiakae @Crazeedi yay! A few of us use the #pop21 hashtag to track our reads for the challenge! 3y
Crazeedi @4thhouseontheleft ok thank you! Not sure how I'm going to do with it, but I'm going to try 3y

I really loved this contemporary loose adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. It was easy to get wrapped up in the story, and didn‘t rely too heavily on the original Austen source material, which I think worked in its favor.

I‘m going to post a discussion question a day for the #PemberLittens #buddyread, starting Oct 19. Looking forward to the discussion!
