A very quiet, slow story. But Rice is really quite skilled at setting the scene, making me feel the cold. And there‘s an insidious horror that creeps in as outsiders begin to show up and things break down and continue to get worse. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

I really enjoyed our #TeamRead for #RestingGrinchFace

Based on the story of the snow maiden or snow girl, an old couple who wanted children but were unable to have them build a child out of snow. After this a child appears every winter and leaves with the summer.
I enjoyed the setting of this one, making their way in Alaska. I found the characters to be quite likeable (which isn‘t always the way in a retelling!)

Got our first #teamread for #GhostsofXmas read. I‘d read it in high school so it‘s been a good 15 years or so. It was nice to revisit a classic, especially given how many versions there are of this story in movie form now. Is it my favorite? No, but it is a classic you have to appreciate and who doesn‘t love a bit of a redemption story.

Had to read fast to finish this spooky page-turner of a team read! A fading rock star & his Goth girlfriend become stronger as they fight a vengeful ghost. As a writer, I may reread the first 50 pages, to appreciate the seamless introduction of the ghostly, hypnotizing stepfather. This was an alright cozy mystery. It did everything it was supposed to. My only problem with is that I could absolutely feel the age difference between the author and the characters, and that was annoying. Maybe next year the cozy choice could be more Halloween related though? #scarathlon #spookyghostclub #teamread +51pts

A small town is plagued by a killer known for stalking and slashing his victims. He toys with them and their home, moving their things, leaving cabinets open, and creating a sense of dread. A group of teens take it into their own hands because the police are just dumb I guess.

I found the end extraordinary…odd. I think it‘s still worth the read but this went from a 4.5 star to a 2.5 because of the end. #scarthlon #teamread #creepinitreal
