Bookwormjillk Cordelia 😂😂 2d
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk best part of the whole chapter 🤣🤣 2d

willaful Oh man. Charles falls for Julia because she's the closest he can get to Sebastian. UGH.

Cordelia is a beam of sunshine. 💛
2d
lil1inblue Cordelia was excellent in this chapter. ??? I also found Rex's whole "I'll just become a Catholic" thing hilarious. 2d
Cuilin @lil1inblue that was so funny, especially with Cordelia interfering. 😆 2d
ElizaMarie Rex doesn‘t seem to get it. I would think Julia would have been insulted that he didn‘t take the Catholicism seriously and dismissed it. Like to say he would throw money at the fact his x wife existed - he is cocky. —- oh and Cordelia is a hoot!!! 2d
mcctrish I quite liked Rex until he went back to his mistress because Julia wouldn‘t put out - she was 20? In an era that frowned on extra marital sex AND didn‘t talk about sex to know what to expect 2d
Clare-Dragonfly @willaful 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻 1d
Clare-Dragonfly Cordelia is the best. I want to say Rex and Julia deserve each other, but that might be a little harsh on Julia. The bit where she catches him with his mistress so pointedly avoids him, and then when she‘s talked into seeing him she emerges engaged, cracked me up! 1d
ElizaMarie @Clare-Dragonfly YES !!! I was thinking she was going to “hold strong“ with her avoiding him and making him chase her to even talk to her! But... she probably knew how weak she was to him and his speeches. I felt sorry for Julia. 1d
lil1inblue @mcctrish 🎯 🎯 🎯Exactly this! 24h
BarbaraJean @mctrish Ugh, yes. Especially when his earlier version of it to Charles was that Julia knew about the mistress and was fine with it 🙄 14h
Daisey This was a great chapter. Cordelia's interference was hilarious. 13h

Lcsmcat Any Keeping Up Appearances fans here? Because Hyacinth! 😂🤣😂 3mo
Cuilin I‘m not sure I would want to get between Mr. Gibson and his cheese. Also, I‘m trying to be understanding of Hyacinth, as women in the 19th century if they were not ever so slightly manipulative, they could be coerced into anything. I‘m not sure cheese is the hill I‘d want to die on though. 3mo

mcctrish Good lord help us all from Hyacinth! Is it too late to call the whole thing off? Let‘s just find Molly a husband instead of 3mo
Cuilin @Lcsmcat bouquet (Bucket) residence Lady of the house speaking”. I keep thinking of her too. (edited) 3mo
BarkingMadRead @cuilin I would definitely choose a better hill 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3mo
willaful Cheese is the hill I would die on, as in I will die for cheese!
3mo
Bookwormjillk @Cuilin you are so right about the cheese. 3mo
peanutnine Uh oh Roger is paying attention to Molly....the squire would not approve 3mo
ElizaMarie @willaful I‘ll die right next to you —- #ForCheese #CheeseIsLife 3mo
ElizaMarie Does Molly even need a mother? Isn‘t Mr Gibson too late in thinking this would be “good” for her? Excuses? 3mo
BarkingMadRead @ElizaMarie yeah I think he waited a smidge too long 🤣 3mo
willaful @ElizaMarie I once told someone that I don't trust people who don't like cheese and I'd say I was justified! 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly Some women are dripping with diamonds / Some women are dripping with pearls / Lucky me, lucky me, look at what I‘m dripping with / Little girls! (edited) 3mo
eeclayton @ElizaMarie I agree that Mr G is rather late. It's weird that he tends to (both him and Mrs K actually) treat Molly like a little child but expect her to behave in a mature way. Also, Lydia Bennet had been married for over a year when she was Molly's age. Not that she'd be a good role model, I'm just comparing life stages. 3mo
eeclayton @Cuilin manipulation is one thing, but what really bugs me is that she doesn't want to invite her own daughter to the wedding so that she can't outshine her. Just awful. And then there's the matter of the cheese!
Come to think of it, I wonder what kind of person Cynthia will turn out to be.
3mo
Lcsmcat @Clare-Dragonfly 😂🤣 3mo
Cuilin @eeclayton yeah not wanting your daughter around because she might outshine you, is problematic. 3mo
Bklover @Clare-Dragonfly 🧡😂🧡😂 3mo
rubyslippersreads @Lcsmcat That‘s exactly who I thought of. 3mo

BarkingMadRead @mcctrish it really does 🤣 7mo
willaful Man, what a depressing chapter. I hope Esther is going to get some help but I kind of doubt it. :-\ 7mo
BarkingMadRead @willaful I‘m worried that she will think she doesn‘t need it 7mo
Deblovestoread Mrs. Kravitz! 7mo
Clare-Dragonfly @BarkingMadRead Same! Or that the shrink will be terrible… 7mo
Bookwormjillk I‘m with you all hoping she gets the help she needs. 7mo
tpixie @Deblovestoread 😝 @BarkingMadRead Mrs Kravitz!!! 🧙 I LOVED Bewitched 7mo
willaful @Clare-Dragonfly I think it's almost guaranteed that the shrink will be terrible. 😞 7mo
Deblovestoread I loved Bewitched, too! @tpixie I was glad the family doc didn‘t just throw more pills at her. Hopefully her referral is a good one! 7mo
dabbe Esther has never had anything below an “A“ in her life. She wins contests, too. Not getting into the summer class was her complete undoing. I'm almost scared now to read more.

BTW, do they live in a house in Boston? If so, why do the mom and Esther share the same bedroom? Or am I wrong in that assumption?
7mo
TheAromaofBooks Waaaaaayy too casual about eating raw hamburger + raw egg 😂 7mo
ElizaMarie Buddy !!! #RunForYourLifeNurse !! Hopefully he doesn't seduce that poor nurse who he “falls in love“ with. I mean. poor girl to be sucked into him! I am #proud Ester put her foot down with that one! 7mo
julieclair @mcctrish Maybe the Lark Rose vibe was why Esther got on my last nerve in this chapter! 😂. But then I reached the end of the chapter and felt guilty about her getting on my nerves. She does need someone who can help her. I do hope the psychiatrist turns out to be a good one. But I'm fearful 7mo

“He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.” OMG! Have a book-blogging friend who kept track of this when she encountered such an occurrence in books. It always makes me think of her. She isn‘t in Litsy; cannot find her anyway. Fond thoughts of book friends this morning! Esther assisting. #DogsofLitsy #whpg

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘d love to see her research on that! 6y
BkClubCare @Riveted_Reader_Melissa - I believe she was appalled and curious about what it signifies, why it is often used in literature? 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BkClubCare Yes! That sounds like it should have been developed into a great paper! I‘m sure it‘s in literature meant to be a shortcut to “he cares”, but in reality “he feels entitled to touch her” or “fix her”. 🤷‍♀️ 6y
BkClubCare @Riveted_Reader_Melissa - Ah, YEP. That is is my take on it. “Dude, my hair is fine. No need to touch me right at this moment” 6y
