Finished this audiobook and really liked it!

Now I'm watching the movie and it is SO different. Only about 30 minutes in and I am hating it :(

They should have cast Wil Wheaton in the movie, he was great

Aims42 After watching the movie I was definitely disappointed. I kept telling my husband, “In the book they did XYZ and it made more sense”. This further confirms my book > movie debate 👍🏻 4y
Selena85 @Aims42 Yes my husband got an earful too. Looking forward to sequel coming out next month, but hope to never see a movie adaption! 4y

Ending was sad and overall book was not as scary I thought it would be. It was a quick and entertaining read and was spooky to me last night during a rainy Saturday night. If I knew that the scary bits were behind me about halfway in, I would have finished last night. Instead I woke up early to finish in time for the end of #deweys24hourreadathon

In total I read 7 hours
Finished tagged book and started another. Still working through my audio

I decided to read this for #scarathlon2020 points because it was Halloween themed.
Very reminiscent of Stephen King, this book was disturbing, spooky, and LONG. I enjoyed this story, but didn't realize it was part of a series. The epilouge left things open ended and I needed more of a payoff than what I got. For someone who wants to get invested in a series and enjoys King, worth the read. For me, only a so-so.

aperfectmjk This just became available on my library holds. I plan to listen to it this week. 😁 4y

I was disappointed in the ending. There was so much great lead up, but I guessed one of the twists pretty early on and the rest of the loose ends wrapped up in a somewhat rushed way.

Still really enjoyed the book. I'd definitely say worth the read and would read more by this author.

Loved the writing and thought the mystery of the house and hauntings were great. I loved the main character, Noemi, but most of the other characters should have been fleshed out so much more. And then there is the ending. Wow. It was....weird, to put it nicely.
Overall, I liked it, but definitely not a favorite.

Started the series because there's a new TV series coming out based on the characters. It was not my cup of tea. The writing of the female characters was awkward and sometimes cringey. Might go forward with the series, but not in any rush.

The book was well written, but I just couldn't identify with the author at all. I expected the group therapy to center more around the author's eating disorder and trauma from her childhood, but about 1/3 of the way it became a constant recollection of failed, miserable relationship followed by failed relationship, followed by failed relationship. Exhausting and not too compelling.

Either way, completed my line for #bookspinbingo

Finished my #bookspin today. I feel like I got off easy since it's a children's book. But I never read Roald Dahl as a kid even though I loved all the movie adaptations. Working my way through his books now at age 35. Never to late to enjoy a great story

Annie1215 I‘ve always wanted to read this since I didn‘t as a kid but felt like my window had closed. Was it still enjoyable as an adult? 4y
Selena85 @Annie1215 I think so. I like breaking up my TBR with YA, middle and children's books, if they are well written. Dahl is a great storyteller so even though I knew the plot, it was fun to read the words. 4y

I love a good YA series 💌 Sad this is the end because I adore Lara Jean. She's an old soul in her tastes but so sweetly naive in her inexperience. I hope the final movie stays true to the book, but maybe gives us a little peek into their college freshman year and even beyond.

#Doublespin

Ruth and her mother, LuLing, have always had a strained relationship. As an adult, caring for elderly LuLing, Ruth learns more about her mother's life that explains why.

This book has three parts. It starts with present day Ruth; pre-revolutionary China; and back to present. I would have liked to read more about LuLing in China, but the anchoring of present Ruth rounded out the story well.

Finished my #bookspin yesterday. It explained how the food we have today is so much blander than food in decades past and what we have done to combat that with lab generated "flavors". It was some interesting food for thought lol sorry the pun had to be made.

I started Lost Roses to get that double bingo before Augut ends!

@TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! I've been reading the tagged book & find it absolutely fascinating as the author explores how using the correct balance of salt, fat, and acid has such a huge impact on the flavor of our food! Her theory - using a bit more salt & fat to draw out natural flavors is better than consuming a lot of artificial ones! 4y
Selena85 @TheAromaofBooks I'll see if I can get my hands on it, I'd be interested in reading about that. The biggest takeaway from Dorito Effect was it pays to spend a little more. Mass produced foods, even produce and meats, are bland and lack the nutrition they should have. I'm a thrifty spender, but it made me reconsider what I lose to save a few dollars. 4y
TheAromaofBooks That can definitely be true. Over the last couple of years I've made a concerted effort to purchase more of my meat locally. I'm not always successful, because it usually involves going to the small out-of-the-way grocery that doesn't have everything else I need, but that store raises & slaughters their own beef & pork - the difference in taste + the reassurance of a much shorter chain & knowing how much fresher it is has made a difference! 4y
TheAromaofBooks It also means that I know where that animal was raised. I know a lot of people who don't eat meat because they don't agree with the way it was raised, which I can respect. However, supporting farmers who are “doing it right“ has a much larger financial impact for them than not supporting the meat factories does, if that makes sense. Anyway, not trying to get preachy!! I'm still feeling my way through the process of eating better. 4y

- Has to be quiet, I'm too easily distracted
